    A Podcast Gem
At last! A podcast to rival the New Yorker short stories podcast this side of the Atlantic. I haven’t listened to one episode where the story wasn’t engaging, enlightening and entertaining - and most are just 15 minutes long. So there’s no excuse not to give each author a try. Some real heavyweight writers alongside a few less known, the podcast has given me a few new writers to try. Thank you Beeb. I love it.

    Have faith
I get the feeling somebody at the BBC doesn't know what to do with this podcast. When it does what it says it does, it's great. But there's 34 episodes, two of which are housekeeping, two of which are repeats of stories from earlier in the podcast, and two of which aren't stories at all but archive interviews with people who have written stories. And now it's on hold, which is a shame: a weekly 15 minutes blast of short story is a perfect use of podcasting. Hopefully whoever out there doesn't trust that you can just do that - no introductions telling you what happens in the next 15 minutes, no sneaking chat shows into a fiction podcast - will realise how good this could be and let it thrive.

This is such a wonderful podcast. Bedtime story for grown ups! Great variety of stories and new authors to learn about.

    Excellent podcast
I agree with other reviewers - this is a direction the BBC should really be developing in terms of podcasting. I've listen to about 8 episodes in a row as I've been decorating this afternoon, and every story is well-chosen and brilliantly read. The stories inspire me to get writing, too! Well done BBC. I'd highly recommend this.

This is what the BBC and podcasting is for
This is a great idea - it perfectly bring together the principle of a licence fee funded BBC and podcasting. The stories are a bit hit and miss, but then that's to be expected while this new venure finds its feet, and of course it's the purpose of a licence fee funded institution to put out challenging literary fiction that pushes the boundaries and won't necessarily appeal to everyone. I can't say I've really enjoyed all the stories, but I've found them interesting and challenging, which is exactly what literary fiction should be. Hope it runs forever.
