This show was great when they actually reported on something but now it’s a book being read. Not the same thing.

The narrator is excruciatingly bad.

I usually listen to all true crime so I stumbled on Season 7 on accident. But it’s an engaging, light mystery. Nice break from the macabre.

The first 3 seasons of true crime were riveting. I’m not sure why or how this podcast switched over to audiobooks. I’m still following with the hopes that it returns to the original format but I don’t listen to the fiction.

I thought this was a really good podcast until I tried listening to seasons 4 and 5 only to find nothing there … and season 6 is “story time”? It’s just a reading of a book? I can get that on Audible. Jumped the shark big time. Very disappointing for what started out as a solid podcast.

I listened to season 3 and liked it. Decided to go back to season one and after half of the first episode I wondered why I had never heard of this murder. BECAUSE IT WAS FICTION!! How can you say you are a true crime podcast if it’s not true crime?

I love your stories, I just don’t understand why foul language needs to be used to tell a story. I had to stop listening to Jar of Hearts because of the unnecessary language.

The audio quality of the recorded interviews is terrible (at least in season 1). I have to listen over and over to some spots, and I still can’t understand all of what they are saying.

Big promises for exciting content. Those promises aren’t kept. Story has potential, but are you kidding me with the ad frequency?? I know you have to monetarily support yourself, but more minutes per episode spent on ads then content is a horrible way to run a podcast. At least group them together differently so that we’re not hearing an ad every three minutes!

The new season focuses on a novel, but I was here for the true crime.

I really enjoyed these stories. I prefer when they end and there’s closure. No cliff hangers here. I keep checking back for Season 4.

I really wanted to listen to this. But the audio is so bad, the volume is all over the charts. The phone interviews are such bad quality you can not understand a thing being said. When the presenters are speaking you need the volume up to 30, then some clips at 20- then the commercials come on and it blasts you out of your car. It’s painful to attempt to listen to, which is a shame because it’s such an awful tragedy…. and her story should be known. I doubt the producers have bothered to listen to the podcast over their own devices- which is a shame.

The story could be really interesting but it’s just not very well written or narrated. *Really* needs an editor for clarity. Too many narrators. Too many unnecessary transitions. Too many vague pronoun references like “it” or “him.” Dropped quotes. Uneven.

It’s nice to listen to cases where justice was done. The story is l, of course, heartbreaking and it’s well told, mostly. The narration is problematic in that you rarely know who is speaking. The eyewitnesses are mainly women and they all sound similar. The host does not consistently (in fact. rarely) tell you who is speaking so it’s very confusing. I pretty much never knew who was whom. I would have had a much stronger grasp on the specifics had I known who was giving an account of the story at any given time.

One of my all time fave true crime podcasts. Gets to the point while still telling the story that needs to be told. These stories are about the people in the stories, not a self indulgent host, like other TC podcasts. Real compassion.

Half the episodes are ads for other podcasts. Keep having to fast forward. Narrating is awful treats the listeners as if they can’t figure things out for themselves. And the intro about catching the criminals leave no room for suspense. It’s like walking into a movie and them telling you the ending before the movie starts. The whole “bad guy gets caught” line is kinda a big turn off and kinda cringe.

I’ve listened to many true crime podcasts but this one is one of the best! The stories are told in a very dynamic and respectful manner and I don’t have to worry about the language in case one of my kids pops in before I can hit pause :-). Also nice to hear stories with conclusions - thank you Case Closed team!!!

I truly feel embarrassed for even listening. So much casual sexism and even victim blaming.— especially as it relates to abusive or narcissistic men. Over simplified, sensationalized, not thoughtful or caring in its delivery. I listen to many true crime and investigative podcasts and this is by all means one of the trashier options out there. They can do much better with a little consultation and effort.

I really love this well researched true-crime podcast. Every season is a case and every case is solved at the end of the season. Not a spoiler! They’re upfront about that. It’s sort of their thing. They always catch the bad guy but who it is and how they figure it out is what really makes the podcast. The first two seasons are hosted by solo host Charlie Spicer, but in the third, he brings in his producer, Kristy Westgard, who is a great addition I hope we can expect in future seasons. In all three seasons, they have help narrating from authors who have written the true crime books that inspire the show. I usually don’t like hearing authors break in and tell the case because it sounds so forced but in this show, you can’t even tell the story has switched people. So far the three seasons have on average 10 episodes long with the second season being the longest at 14. Usually about 22 minutes an episode there are quite a few reviews that don’t like the brevity but personally, I don’t see why each part needs to be an hour-long to be good. In fact, I think if it was people would say it repeats information too much and needs to be shorter. This last season the show did something a little out of their norm by posting the first episode on all available platforms and the rest on Stitcher premium. The rest of the episodes were released later in the year on all platforms but I’m hoping this isn’t a publishing schedule we’ll have to get used to. Owltail has the most popular season as being the first but it’s a tie for the first and second for me. They’re both just so good! Music is super subtle but unique. These stories are really interesting but the low quality narration is very difficult to get past - awkward and wooden, clearly reading from a script. Consider investing in a solid storyteller for subsequent seasons.

There is no reason to have the seasons be 9 episodes with only 10-15 minutes of content each. This isn’t a comedy podcast with interjections of opinion so it’s not even entertaining banter that is filling the time. I like this podcast a lot but the episodes ABSOLUTELY have to be longer. There’s no need for an episode reading three text messages. Please get it together.

Too many ads and too much re-cap/ preview. Each 25-26 minute episode has about 14 minutes of fresh content. Boo

I’ve read many of the reviews complaining about short episodes but not every podcast needs to be an hour or two in length. I listen to several podcasts, so I enjoy having some that are quick, easy listens. The pod is well done imo. I’m suggesting it.

To echo what many others on here are saying, each episode only has about 10 minutes of actual content once you get through the intro / recap, ads and then outro at the end. While the stories are interesting, it is weak compared to other true crime podcasts as it’s really only the hosts reading through a script. No interviews or any other audio. I never minded the male host in previous seasons, but the female host in season three is awful and should stick to producing behind the scenes (or maybe not since the podcast isn’t great). We also don’t need to be reminded in every single episode who author Greg Olson is. You introduced him in the first episode, we don’t need a reminder every other episode after that! At least he was interesting and provided more information to the story that would be almost unbearable to listen to otherwise. Maybe they should have just had him narrate the entire episode. At least his voice isn’t cringey like the girl. Is this the worst true crime podcast I’ve ever listened to? No. But it’s far from the best.

The best part has to be Charlie Spicer’s buttery voice. It reminds me of watching Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack. The sound arrangement really helps set the tone for the show. Great production!

The episodes end just as they are getting into the good information. It’s so annoying that I just googled the story and found out about it that way. Also, the female host had an extremely annoying voice and she doesn’t read the script as well as he does. Go back to one host. I am unsubscribing.

Good content but the episodes are too short. Not enough meat on the bone for such a beefy subject.

Case Closed picks really interesting cases, but the info is stretched whisper thin to cover more weeks. An average episode only has about ten minutes of new info once you remove the recap, wrap up, and numerous ads. Stitcher has the whole season up but all together it’s actually only about three hours of content that’s been stretched out across three and a half month’s worth of weekly episodes, so it doesn’t seem worth the money (The average show I pay to support would have about 14-28 hours of content in that same time period for that price.)

I like the content but as has been mentioned before there are a ton of commercials and the episodes are ridiculously short. I’m not sure if it’s laziness or just trying to get people to listen to more episodes but it’s annoying. Just make them an hour long, I wouldn’t be as irritated with the commercials if there was more content to balance them out.

not sure why there can’t be fewer episodes at 1 hour. it’s frustrating to get just one fact a week, like you’re stretching out the story for some reason other than narrative flow.

Great show. Very interesting and well done BUT far too many commercials. I felt like there was 1/3rd content to 2/3rds commercials. Thank goodness I could fast forward.

I listened to every available episode in the Amish Murder. Each episode is 18-20 minutes and starts with a ads and a recap and each episode ends with a summary of what the next episode will include. The ads and summaries need to be cut down or the episodes made longer. It’s an interesting story but too irritating to keep having an I treating story interrupted and with other podcasts that do that, I won’t be listening to other seasons.

Ads, no actual interviews or recordings just the host’s “interpretations” of what happened. I can honestly say I had not heard of any case before this podcast but I am so looking forward to anyone else covering the case. I love the idea of a podcast having a proper ending - a suspect, case tried, and justice served. But so much machismo, it’s hard to listen.

The ads take up most of the podcast and the word for word reading of the episode description every time is insanely annoying. It’s just not worth it to sit through the recapping and the long ads for what is probably 3 minutes of actual info about the case per episode.

I love the content and storytelling but told in such small increments each week it’s hard to really get into it.

Best season yet. Very intriguing story and love anything by Gregg Olsen!

Season 3 stopped suddenly but I found on episode web page. Problem is you can play episodes but if it stops or you try to multitask on phone you have to go all the way back out of site, back in, find episode and press play from beginning. Sometimes it’ll play 🤷🏻‍♀️😡

Can anyone affiliated with this podcast give an update? Season 3 abruptly stopped. I haven’t been able to find anything written about it. I hope everyone is in good health. I really like this podcast and prior seasons.

I don't understand why there have been some low reviews... This podcast is well written, and the narrators and those who are interviewed sound sincere and believable. I'm actually really picky about podcast quality, and probably delete 8 out of 10 that I try. This one is great to play as I go about my day. Try it with an open mind!

They’re excited about being able to give you every detail and although the narrator’s intro is a little arrogant, I like his voice. I also love the sub-narrator thing they do with authors. Can;t wait to listen to season three.
