Son of StoddardIncredible film reviewsLove what these fine gentlemen do week to week. They are hilarious and insightful and often completely change my view of recent films. I always feel smarter after hearing them dissect a movie. Would love to hear them review the Hulu film “Plan B”, as I think it would be great to hear their views on the subjects and themes therein. Also want to hear them review “I Saw The TV Glow”. Curious for their opinions on the performance of Justice Smith.

newsy news watcher guyTalk about other media/contentI know yall trying to do more mainstream movies but it would be good to talk about tv shows and other media. Also, did you guys ever review “origin”? That was probably my favorite movie in the last few months. I would love to hear your point of view. Anyway, thanks for an influential podcast

The Dead SamsMadame WebI’m finally giving this podcast a review for their service in watching the bomb that is Madame Web. Even though the movie was awful these three did a great job on the episode, I was cracking up the whole time.
-
trecoolxI Love This ShowConsistently excellent and hilarious commentary on movies and representation in entertainment. And I appreciate their suffering through Madame Web for the listener’s enjoyment!

L. S. KingSMHHorrible. Not funny. Black? Maybe just in the color of y’all skin. You don’t sound black at all. Mad corny. Please stop. Just stop!!

GiiidcbeKeeping it 100Honestly, one of my favorite podcasts! Not only does it pull me into movies that I wanted to watch anyway, but it’s like having a conversation with your friends outside the theater. The 3 hosts are funny, personable, and offer wonderful insight to movie going and the black experience! 50/10 stars, if I could! Sometimes I take mental health days from work to watch a movie and then listen to Black Men Can’t Jump! So thank you for the fantastic content!!

pleasegetinFormationT.P. is awfulYou all must review Mea Culpa. I need to hear your commentary. 😂🤣

HouseofmosaicBook of ClarenceThe Book of Clarence was referenced in the Harder They Fall at minute 52:31, Jim Beckworth says, “Like they say in the Book of Clarence, “No man out-speed me.” Nice Easter egg
-
arunancan i give six stars?!?!discovered thru blank check a month ago and have listened to *nothing* else since! these guys are so funny that my face sometimes hurts from laughing (omg, the cats episode…) then you realize that they’re intelligent and insightful and use comedy as a vehicle to help people open their eyes to the more insidious racism and sexism in movies. funny and enlightening-wow! SIX STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

MrIGotItHelp a black man out!!!Mannnnnn Patreon to much work!!! Can y’all brotha’s set up and Apple plus page! Ain’t nobody trying to be going back in forth from app to app lol! Appreciate it! Love the show but y’all need to review some black tv shows now too! It won’t let me give y’all 6 stars either

BPatrickTLove this show, hate paywallsI had a bunch of episodes I was waiting to listen to until I caught up on the movies. Now they are all behind a paywall. I’ll still enjoy new episodes, but I’m reducing costs atm so I can’t do a sub. Maybe I’ll catch the episodes I missed if they get cycled to free like HDTGM does with their eps? Anyway, great show with 3 great hosts who I discovered as fun guests on other movie pods. Don’t let the limited number available of episodes dissuade you from enjoying what is available. They manage to balance their playful dynamics with thoughtful looks at the movie’s’ impact. They aren’t above calling out filmmakers and movies they live for not doing enough.

MegaBZBig Fan of the Big 3I listen to you guys ALL the time so the love of the show and you funny brothas is there. I would love to hear you guys do a review on the 2000’s film by Spike Lee BAMBOOZLED starring Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tommy Davidson, and Savion Glover. p.s…. Keep the bits alive (yes they can be dumb at times but that’s what makes it funny 🤣) also met Jonathan at a commercial audition in LA that we both didn’t get but I met a good brotha who was cool 😎 ✊🏾

Deej1992Black men don’t jump, they soarI’ve been binging this podcast for a week now and honestly it is the BEST movie review podcast. I love it all, from Braylock’s cringey title intro to James III’s undying love for Hancock. They give a fresh view on movies from a lens that not a lot of critics will understand (y’all know the ones) and are not afraid to call out the movies that aren’t as good. I would love to hear you guys’ thoughts on the 2021 Mortal Kombat remake. You definitely got a new fan. Stay Black!
-
Z.DThis podcast is amazingI have been listening to the podcast since my friend told me about it a couple years ago. Love listening to it while I’m at work and listening to your different opinions on the movies. I do get annoyed by Braylock’a transitions in the cold openings however. There are a few movies I think you guys could review: Margaux, The Game Plan, and American Pie Girls Rule. All 3 star biracial actress Madison Pettis along with other PoC actors/actresses. Keep up the great work
-
migpedLove the podcast endlesslyI love this podcast so much, I've listened for years but a movie y'all haven't done yet which I think would be perfect for the podcast is a little known movie called Malibu's Most Wanted. Thanks for the laughs and the great commentary.

Day_💕Been a fan still a fan!Hey guys! Love the podcast and message you are getting across. When I’m home I listen with my little sister Sasha and she loves it is as well. I look forward every week. If you ever do a show in NY or Boston I’m there! But where is the Missing pod? It stars Storm Reid, Nia Long and Ken Leung. It was a fun time at the movies and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Wishing you success in 2023 💕 P.S. sorry for not responding back on instagram. I really appreciate you noticing and reaching back out.

KenHizzleAwesome!Came here via Blank Check and havnt stopped binging! I love usssss!!!!! (Black people) Yall have great chemistry & Im wayyyyyyy in the back catalogue!

rhen356Amazing Podcast! One of the best podcasts out there!

:DsmallsLove this podcastI found you guys years ago and I just have to say that this podcast is amazing. I love that you guys are able to come together and talk about these films with different perspectives. Over the years you have reviewed great movies and not so great movies and highlighted how as black people we don’t many opportunities to make not so great films. Something I hadn’t really thought much about before. So I thank you for that. I hope that y’all keep going because I truly enjoy the silly boys that y’all have. Ps. With all love The “You people” episode is rough Jerah! 😮💨. Better movies will come.
-
Andre the VirginBlack Men FTWI found this podcast and thought great! Three black men. Surely we’ll have all the same film opinions. Nope! We’re not a monolith, but I love hearing from you guys. But also, I just listened to the Oscars special and it is soo nice to hear people who are not enthralled by Banshees. Everyone loves that movie and I don’t get it.
-
Stressed in SFAwwww yeah!Just saw that this podcast that I love is featured this month (Feb 2023)! So deserved. I love listening to these friends get into ridiculous and yet still deep arguments - the kind I love getting into with my friends. Since beginning to listen to this podcast a few years back, I have learned so much and definitely watch movies with a broader perspective now. Hoping for a tour maybe. Would love to see this live!
-
Devon2k1Great PodcastHey guys I just found your podcast about 2 weeks ago and I have to say that I really enjoy it. The review you guys did on Ray was great, Jamie Fox was amazing in it and deserved to win the Oscar, but it was bittersweet to see him win. Because he went up against Don Cheadle that year for Hotel Rwanda and i hated to see him lose. But if you guys haven’t reviewed that movie yet maybe you will give it a watch and review thanks.
-
BarginereAfrican American Horror StoryHey guys. Love the podcast! Especially the episodes where you break down horror movies like Nope, People Under the Stairs and Barbarian. When done well, I think black horror explores the horrors of black American culture through the lens of fantasy and keeps it from feeling like just another black pain film and I love how you guys can highlight that aspect of the genre through your discussions. Have you considered doing an episode on Bones and All since it has a black female lead? Does Timothee Chalamete’s whiteness cancel out Taylor Russel’s blackness? jk Love you super talented exceptional negros. Wish you nothing but success and joy.
-
DrcandeeOne of my faves!Hey guys! Just wanted to say how much I enjoy the pod. My husband put me on and we are always laughing and texting about the show. I took an AA in film course in undergrad and have always been interested in our history through film. And Jerah, as a native Virginian Howard Alum and lifelong fan, I concur on every statement about the Commanders (dumb name) you’ve made. Love y’all!
-
AustinRoyMy film brothas!Such a fan of the pod! It’s always great to hear your perspectives and it feels like I’m with friends every episode. It’s been great to see your work outside of the pod and always have to support. Love this space and am excited to see what you all have next. Question for you though. Is Hancock a good movie?
-
AhumberLove yall!Aj here from Texas! Such a fan of yall. I wish Astronomy club got another season. Also if yall haven’t already can yall review cadillac records and/or jasons lyric!
-
Ericca10310 starsEvery single episode Jerah finds a way to shade the movie ‘Green Book’ and I love that energy lol. Great podcast.
-
Jon D in NYCI love this podcastYour episode on “Devotion” answered a lot of questions for me that about your philosophy around “Black pain.” There are times, such as your review of “Till,” where I ask myself, “wouldn’t movies that center Black experiences in America have to center black pain and American racism or else fail to show a true picture of the Black experience?” In this episode, you explained how you don’t have answers yet, but that younger BIPOC filmmakers and artists are struggling to come up with answers to this question. I look forward to the art that will come from your struggle. It may not always be easy or comfortable, but it will be important. Also, Jonathan, the bit is dead. Let it go.

westcoastspideyBeen listening and learning for yearsWish this podcast didn't have to exist, but I'm glad it does. Jerah, James, and Jonathan have a lot of knowledge to share and I've learned a lot from these guys. I look at movies differently, both in terms of race and diversity, but also the writing in general. Been listening since 2018 and I can't watch movies the same anymore. I've learned things I can't unsee, but it's all in the name of the cause. Outside the podcast it's been cool to see them grow in their professional and personal lives as well and I hope nothing but more good things are to come ✊🏾✊🏿✊🏽

Ahnaf HassanHopped on Apple just for thisI usually listen on Spotify, but heard y’all were running out of new 5 star reviews and needed some help. This is the only podcast I listen to, because nothing else I’ve found has the combination of hilarious and compelling conversation I’m looking for. I know y’all do movies, but would love to hear your thoughts on Atlanta, and how the whole world seems to have forgotten how incredible of a show it was. Wish y’all the best, and hope y’all continue the classic sign off of saying “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.

g0odluckpeepTwo Black Fist From MeI really love this show. I started listening to it during the pandemic when it became part of the MAU (Melisa Auditory Universe) and I got hooked. You guys are so funny and insightful. Jonathan don’t get rid of your bits. Sometimes they’re a hit or miss but the anger that comes from James III and Jerah is pure gold which makes for a great comedy. Also James III, I don’t want you to get rid of your “insert character from another film” bit but maybe we move away from the birds. Jerah, I’m so glad you’re done with the Swirl thing but stop taking James’ bit. I liked when you did what you would do if you were in Beast, so maybe keep with that: WWJD What Would Jerah Do? I know that Jonathan and James’ wives have been on the podcast so I take it Jerah is single so I’m going to do so virtual matchmaking. I know someone who is a successful beautiful Black woman. You both yell about the same things on your respective podcast. You both are hot nerds that are into comics. And you’re both short. She got nominate for an Emmy. Don’t you want to go to the Emmy’s? When I heard Melisa talk on one of her podcast about going to see Black Adam witch someone who famously hates movies, I wondered if it were you and then I heard you on BMCJ say that you went with her so seems like you both at least get along. Why not try dating (if you’re not already)? I’m sure that I’m embarrassing Jerah and Melisa and Jonathan is probably getting secondhand embarrassment reading this but it’s worth it for Black Love. ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾 Jerah, if you’re taken, my apologies but I’m on the mission to find Melisa a good man because she brings so much joy to my life.

April from MarylandBig fan! Love these guys!So I’ve been listening for years (and this is probably about to be long so you may not want to read this one on the pod). But these guys have such a good rapport which makes this podcast a joy to listen to. They each have a funny “bit” that makes me chuckle every time. Although I think maybe Jonathan is giving up his title “bit” but we’ll see. I’m just returning back to the pod for the Wakanda Forever episode because I do have a rule when it comes to BMCJ…if I haven’t seen the movie, I don’t listen because it’s just not the same. It’s not even about spoilers (which there will be of course). It’s just that the way these guys dive into the themes of films, you are going to tune out unless you know what they’re talking about. (Well…That’s the case for me anyway) So here I am, returning to the movies after literal years to see Wakanda Forever and I was just so touched by the cold open discussing grief. These three gentleman give me so much hope. They are insightful and kind. They’re feminists. And of course they spotlight films made by Black and Brown people so they will forever be good in my book! If you’ve made it this far I hope you’ll get into their catalog. Like I said, if you’ve seen the film you won’t be disappointed in their commentary. They’re the best!

vilacronGood balanceI love this show. It’s a good balance of humor, seriousness, and educates me on different perspectives. Also, I don’t know what the beef is with the intros. I think John’s intros are seamless. Also, Steel should make a cameo in every movie.
-
A Reader and StanYes.Truly my favorite discovery of the year. I can’t believe I’m so late to the joy that is Jon, James, and Jerah reviewing and analyzing films. Look forward to this every week. Thanks for the laughs and insight, gentlemen. Also, Jerah’s take on Fire Island was complete trash.

Silver Red Signsoverlooked historyYo BMCJ Podcast, this podcast is about broadcasting the upliftment of African American artist in hollywood and a great film to do that would be Basquiat starring Jeffrey Wright. This movie gives an honest protrayal of Jean-Michel Basquiat the first person of African descent to break into the art world, and if you didn't know the art world was very segregated before Basquiat and after Basquiat all art created by black artist sky rocketed in value. He leaves a lasting impression in pop culture inspiring the biggest Artist in the world today{ look at Jay Z who always talks about his art collection and even wears a hairdo that resembles him}. This movie is great and you should review it.

Mack Wyatt‼️‼️‼️Been listening for a while now finally decided to write a review lol🥴🤦🏽♂️😂. I love this podcast shout to to y’all doing this for the culture. A movie y’all should review is “Riot” with Mario Van Peebles it’s a movie I used to watch when I was younger watching it now I have a whole new take on it and I’m curious to what y’all would think…it’s about the LA riots BTW and it’s interesting the way it intertwine the stories…if I’m not mistaken it’s streaming on tubi

JackavelliThe Woman KingI know y’all gonna review this one , but just in case I’m bringing it up here. This one is a must. Viola Davis is our Queen. So many great black performances in this one. ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

rae the nerdFun podcastsRecently found this through an ad on a different podcast. I love movie review podcasts and the hosts have a fun banter.

EasoniaFunny, Deep, and InsightfulI just learned about this podcast about a week ago and I’ve been diving into the a ton of past episodes. They’re all so good. These three men are so funny and clearly share great friendships amongst them. I recently listened to an old episode where they decried the lack of Richard Pryor movies they’d reviewed (hadn’t reviewed, I guess?). Could I humbly suggest they check out Which Way Is Up?, Blue Collar (he’s great in Lady Sings the Blues, too, but I have issues with how Billie Holiday is portrayed.), and maybe Car Wash. Apologies if you’ve done any or all of them and I didn’t spot it. Great podcast!
-
tylerbradelyarnetteNOT TRASHMore lame corny jokes please
-
ElohinoTRASHThis podcast is trash. I wanted to hear a podcast about movies from black points of view and all I got was buffoonery. All they do is act obnoxious. I’m unsubscribing, I can’t take the corniness. More insightful and intelligent opinions and less lame corny jokes. 👎🏾
-
Seffire 1969Excellent PodI am updating my review and keeping the 5 stars! Still love the podcast. I appreciated the Nope review since I just saw the movie. It was perfect timing and I got so excited when I saw the episode was out. I would definitely watch the 3 hours directors cut. Even with all the flaws I loved the movie whole heartedly. Also I think it was implied the film guy was sick since he was taking pills right before he let the monster eat him. I think it was an “Im on the way out anyhow” type of moment. Anyhow I’d love it if y’all would do a review of Nicole. It’s a 2019 horror/thriller film. It’s not necessarily a good movie but it has a black female lead and I found it fun. It talks a lot about the male gaze and even years after watching it I still think about it. Plus as a black women I always love your black femme guests. It’d be awesome if you could invite a black women to help review this movie. :) Lots of love, Saf Ps. I loved Astronomy Club!
-
Keish36My fav podI’ve been listening since before the pandemic, so sorry it took me so long to review. James, I’ve always loved your bit from Hancock to now birds(?) lol and how you say your name as cheery as you can. John, how you slide the title in every episode in the most ridiculous way. Jerah, now I didn’t love nor hate the swirl but before you get mad, I usually agree with you the most. And I just want to quickly pitch you cover love craft country, I already know John is going to say no, BUT since you did surf ninjas without him…would be a nice addition to the patreon. But if not I want to suggest the film Tangerine for a future episode. Thank you guys so much and can’t wait for your film!

2TwuanFirst Time Long TimeSheesh been listening since back on head gum and look AT YALL NOW!! KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. Please check out the movie EMERGENCY on Amazon Prime. For the college educated brothers this movie will definitively strike a great debate. Not to mention the three main characters have a striking character resemblance to the three of y’all. NO Spoilers but you’ll see. Ps. Jon those cold open intros your either draining a half court shot or it’s a straight air ball. But never stop shooting lol. Jerah NEVER GIVE UP on the swirl until Hollywood can see past color. And finally James 3rd Smdh …. man you got the Best Bits on the show i don’t even know where to start but I’m just wondering for old times sake … isssss Handcock good? Like hear me out I know y’all reviewed it already but seriously?! IS HANDCOCK A GOOD MOVIE?! Inquiring minds want to knowwwwwwwwwwwwww

Honeyy.dip5 Black FistsYou burn so brightly and spread so much light, laughter and care. The work you do is meaningful!! I’m thankful that you exist! If I thanked you a million times it wouldn’t be enough! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, comedy and creativity ❤️
-
skillzilla81Transitions and ShaqI love you all, but I listen because of Braylock's transitions and James the 3rd's Shaq. The Black stuff is also a draw, I guess. The main draw. But mostly the transitions.

FantitahOBSESSED!This podcast is one of the few things that is great about Monday! I have learned about so many films and been exposed to such compelling perspectives and truths about film (and diversity in Hollywood) through this podcast. Jonathan, Jerah and James have incredible charm and chemistry, so it really feels like listening to your funny, smart film school friends discuss movies. Absolutely LOVE this podcast and if you’re in doubt about listening, the answer is DO IT! Even if you don’t love the film being reviewed, hearing Jonathan, Jerah and James’ takes will be worth it.
-
silk124Language ArtsHello BMCJ podcast, A great comedy film to review is How High because Method and Red Man are funnier than a lot of comedians and the teacher in the film was funny too and you can’t forget about Lark Voorhies and also I just randomly saw this clip from 2013 of the mayor of Kansas City Sly James being interrupted by some man who rushed the stage and started cursing and it was hilarious and the mayor looked like james and the guy who rushed the stage looked like jerah watch it its hilarious
