Study in Scarlet (version 2), A by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 - 1930)

10

A Study in Scarlet is a detective mystery novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which was first published in 1887. It is the first story to feature the character of Sherlock Holmes, who would later become one of the most famous literary detective characters, with long-lasting interest and appeal. The book's title derives from a speech given by Holmes to his companion Doctor Watson on the nature of his work, in which he describes the story's murder investigation as his "study in scarlet": "There’s the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it." Great Collection of Readers
...until you get to episode 8; Part 2 Chapter 1. The lady who read this made me want to smash my iPhone. I stopped 10 minutes in and downloaded the episode by another reader. After this, all is well but would have preferred one reader throughout.

    Great stories, clear English speakers
The story is wonderful. Moreover the readers can all be easily understood. The cadence, and pronunciation of a couple if readers is.... painful, but since they don't read Holmes or Watson it was... tolerable. Like many librivox books you take what you get, after all these people volunteered their services.

    Lovely
I loved the first reader. He had the perfect voice and tone to read this story. The other readers weren't nearly as good. I would suggest they rerecord it with only the first reader.

All good.... up to pt. 2 ch. 1
Whomever read Pt. 2 Ch. 1 - On the Great Alkali Plain is horrible. Her voice sounds like a Wisconsin woman arguing with a cat. I can't tell if it is Siri or a horrible tone of voice.
