I’m 17 episodes In. I always start at oldest and work forward. But I just found out that after only 40 episodes, Written in Blood was cut short. With millions of stories that could be told, I am saddened that this wonderful story teller was stopped what is an amazing view in to some worlds and stories I was not familiar with. Still 💯 worth listening to. Thou just to get hooked on a dead project. All I can say, please come back to us Written in Blood!

    The devil is the details...
This podcast does a stellar job of taking both large swathes of history, as well as small snippets, and painting a picture that’s as rich in details as it is in historical fact. Out of sheer curiosity I listened to similar stories on the History Channel podcast and could not find the devil among their details. ‘Written in Blood’ highlights the twists and turns that make history more than just a good story. And that’s a fact.

    Arminius Episode
I am happy to listen to another take on Arminius and the Germanic tribes that stopped Rome. “Hermann the German” is the inspiration for The Ring Cycle’s hero, Siegfried, I do believe. This is a rich topic.0

    Follows the best history format
This is a very good podcast about interesting lesser known events in history, presented in my favorite format: One person delivering well researched information about people places and things. Stephen has a clear calm voice that does not distract from the subject matter. This allows the listener to embed themselves in the story from beginning to end. I’m often saddened by other podcasters who drown their own unique content in an unfortunate and distracting format, usually two dudes riffing and laughing, or a guy and a girl injecting their own opinions into what becomes a long and inefficient way of presenting content. Written in Blood is up there with Dan Carlin, Mike Duncan, Paul Cooper and Nitin Sil. 4 stars!

Very interesting podcast, entertaining for anyone who enjoys history. Definitely does a good job of trying to portray the personality of the people he speaks about.

    Better with each episode
As you go it’s more polished, better moderated tone. It’s a good listen and very informative while not being 5 hours long.

    Great Storytelling
Stephen’s flair for the dramatic shines through, even when reading straight from a history book. The way he tells history makes this podcast feel like fiction, but somehow you never forget that every show centers on real people in extraordinary situations. Here’s to more episodes, Stephen is on to something!

    Mutiny in Paradise
This was so enjoyable and educational, I listened to it twice! First by myself and second with my family on a road trip. It really is so inspiring to hear of how our ancestors survived such hardship. I can’t wait for the next episode.

Very well researched and entertaining stories with a robust lesson in history. The author really expounds on some of the amazing trials that our forefathers have faced and or suffered; things that otherwise would be lost in history are brought back to life in the retelling of these stories. Highly recommend!
