Antigone

0

Desperate to gain control over a city ravaged by civil war, Creon refuses to bury the body of Antigone’s rebellious brother. Outraged, she defies his edict. This action causes Creon to defend his rule by condemning the young woman, his niece, to be buried alive. This is a collection on the National Theatre’s 2012 production of Antigone and contains interviews with director Polly Findlay and cast members including Christopher Eccleston and Jodie Whittaker.

Fantastic for teaching and exploring Antigone at a higher level
I am using this video series as part of an advanced high school theater class (IB Theatre). Not only does it provide a background in Greek theater, it helps students begin to think about the different contextual elements involved in the artistic direction of a play from character dynamics, thematic choices, contextual influence, and even modern adaptation. My students love it and the interviews are outstanding.
