I am not going to lie, I still miss John M, but Guy has be able to take this show to new heights with a solo pod. He’s bringing on some amazing guest and needs to add John Chapman to his booking to take this pod over the top. Loving the David Lombardi addition as well.

Will Niners ever vary their defense beyond one look/one coverage? Meaning, rushing 4 and play zone. Niners fans complain about the Shanahan offense but I think it’s the defense (more accurately, defensive philosophy) that has failed. Thanks for your hard work

Hey Guy there is 31 other teams in NFL… 49ers are not the greatest thing since slice bread give it a rest. I’m happy you made a full recovery after all the glazing and meat riding you do for the Santa Clara 49ers. BA is not an ELITE WR let it go already. He’s very immature and hate how he carries himself. I enjoy when you cover anything else besides 49ers content for 40 mins straight.

Love the show—I think I’m finally able to start listening to niners content again after the agony of the Super Bowl has begun to fade into a dull ache like so much other shrapnel that scars have covered over. Glad to hear Guy (and his voice) going strong as ever!!! Question for the mailbag: what’s your take on Rory’s collapse at the us open? I’m not an avid golf fan, but I miss the semi-regular golf content you and Middlekauff used to get into at the start of the show around the time I started listening (spring ‘21). I thought Rory winning another major was inevitable, but after the devastation of this loss and missing TWO sub five foot puts, I feel like the pressure he puts on himself can only go up. I’ve already given up my dream of Ricky fowler winning a major—seems rory may be cooked as well.

Started listening after the SB. Was dissatisfied with most analysis of the game. You were the only one talking about the two 3rd and 4 plays. Kept listening and have thoroughly enjoyed the pod. I liked the juxtaposition of the two Deebos in your recent pod - the 70% effort guy who also drops the ball vs. the YAC maniac who breaks 5 tackles and houses it. (After 1 play, both Deebos are off the field grimacing like my Italian grandmother.) I agree that he’s likely gone after the year, and that makes the Niners worse. Will we see an evolution in Kyle’s offense post-Deebo? What might this look like? For what’s it’s worth, here are some of my thoughts: —> More reliance on passing game/put the ball in the hands of our soon-to-be-very-rich QB1. —> Lean on BP and BA chemistry to get BA WAY more targets - like a true WR1. —> Use newly drafted speed to stretch the field. —> Slick Rick at Z - but don’t replicate Deebo’s role. Use his routes, quicks, and ability to beat off-man in the place of YAC and insane physicality. But like Deebo, get him on the move pre-snap to help with press man. Will KS do this? Should he? Sorry for the length! Just excited to hear your thoughts!

Always liked the pod and while it was football/Niner focused when John was still here at least they touched other topic. Now it’s just a Niners pod and the dynamic is gone. Very sad. Hope we will see more takes on other topics vs just the same Niners stuff everyday

Hey Guy, got a Nebraska football question for you. Last year the QB play was brutal, half decent play gets us back to a bowl. We now have Dylan Raiola, a 5 star. Is it fair to expect him to be better than decent right away? It’s been a while since we’ve been good, I really hope he is the real deal. -Patrick

Big time fan! Excellent and thoughtful content! My question for the mailbag is ; I’m in the camp of Brock Purdy is a good QB but is he a franchise building QB? Can they Pay him big time money and draft around him to win a superbowl? Based on what we have seen so far I’m not sure.

If Lance had worked out, it wouldn’t have mattered if they traded 2 extra picks. Nobody cares about the draft compensation if the guy is really good. Big Bears fan, can’t wait to see Caleb. My go-to was the Better Rivals but that road unfortunately came to an end after the 2021 season. I’ve bounced around, but for my money this is the best around followed by 49ers Talk with Matt Maiocco. All the others lack quite a bit and are much like listening to drunks at the local sports bar. Guy is the man!

Hey guys! Been listening to the pod for a while. I love the content you put out. Regarding the Sorensen/Staley hires, I think it gets weird only if the 49ers make it weird. If Kyle clearly defines their roles, I think it could be very successful. Staley obviously couldn’t handle the pressure of being a head coach, but I’ve read a lot of comments about people who have worked with him that say he is extremely intelligent. My guess is one of his more prominent roles is just going to be in the lab with game film, a big whiteboard, and dry erase markers helping Kyle see possible holes and weaknesses in the offensive game plan. I think he’ll also be there as a resource for Sorensen should he need it or desire it. But I think Sorensen should be fully empowered as the DC, and make that decision only if he wants to. Your thoughts?

John and Guy keep it so real and tell it how it is, with knowledge and experience to back it up. It’s my go to podcast/show for Bay Area sports talk. Update 2024- Middlekauff spends the majority of his time on other podcasts but Haberman has been holding down the pod and puts out great content basically daily between the YouTube channel and podcast feed. Insightful, thoughtful and not just a bunch of hot takes to get clicks. Also goes the extra mile and takes impromptu trips to Vegas to get extra content for the show.

I love to hear them break down big stories in NFL and in the world. They have great chemistry and I wish they would do a more shows together each week

I wanted to reach out and say thank you for the content over the last while, and while I have been a 49er fan my whole like 1983 I am done, I have decided I’m gonna dedicate my time to something worth while, Kyle,kittle,Deboo etc none of them care as much as I do and the the problem! John and Guy are very both very knowledgeable and know their stuff. They provide an unbiased opinion and tell it how they see it. This is a must listen podcast as it’s great content and they make it fun and entertaining.

….avoid this pod like the plague. Guy is a standup fella, insightful and balanced. Middlekauf is a prat, a wannabe Cowherd who has a single agenda: himself. Constantly talks about ‘war daddies’ but you wouldn’t want to be in a foxhole with this bloke, you’d get a bayonet in the back. Total joke and an unserious person

I gave you a 4 star because John is such a jerk to Trey. Be critical of Trey…fine, but I swear John gets all warm and fuzzy inside when he rips on Trey. It isn’t necessary. Be better, John…be critical without being a jerk. Otherwise…great show.

I love how you guys cover the niners, I’ll see a few hot takes in 49er land but I know once you guys put out an episode I’ll hear what really happened. I feel it’s unbiased and fair which I love, and it’s hard as an east coast fan who doesn’t have the means to go to training camp, I feel like I was there! Question for the mailbag: I know all the qb injuries are different, but since 2019 it seems we have catastrophic qb injuries almost every year. I know the theory was Jimmy g is made of glass, but it’s more than just him (Nick Mullens, Trey Lance, Brock Purdy). This is my long way of asking, is there something the 49ers are doing that’s different to other teams in the league? I’m a scared fan hoping we can have one qb last all season….

I’m sure y’all have brought this up at some point, but say Purdy could be available for week 1, would Kyle secretly want Purdy to miss a game or 2 so that Lance could have a more opportunity in games that count to prove himself? That’s assuming he beats out Darnold. I’ll hang up and listen

49ers fan living in Chicago and came across you guys about a year and a half ago, and been a avid fan of you guys ever since, love the content(especially John’s rants about the Raiders 😂) quick question, say none of the guys on the roster are the Franchise QB, if you guys were Jed, would you trust Kyle and John to make the next QB decision or would you bring someone else in to make that decision?

Hey guys 49er fan here, love the pod. Live in the Bay Area but didn’t know about y’all since I mostly listen to KNBR. Found you through Cowherd and I appreciate the local focus. Keep up the good work! Now all of this stuff about Lance is coming out, about how his throwing motion was screwed up (causing him fatigue), and that his technique was bad before he allegedly fixed it this offseason. Does this reflect poorly on the niners scouting department/Kyle? If he had bad technique, how did they miss that and draft him #3 overall? If something has to be fixed in his 3rd offseason, instead of the 1st doesn’t that make the team look like they don’t know what they are doing? Thanks!

Haberman is great, I think he does a very solid job of remaining unbiased. He seems much more polished in this field than his counterpart, Middlekauff. Middlekauff is very much so the “ehh” part of this podcast. He’s emotional, petty, and completely out of touch with business. I can respect somebody working on their craft but he’s much too self righteous for my taste. For somebody who claims to be an advocate for entrepreneurship, he takes things way too personally. Haberman should consider splitting from this guy. Definitely holding him back.
