Dog Works Radio

Dog training experts and best-selling authors Robert and Michele Forto (A Musher's Dream) take the listener into the scruffy, curious, and sometimes heroic world of dogs. What does it mean to "own" a dog? Can dogs teach us compassion? How do dogs learn? What are your breed's origins and what were they bred to do? Dog Works Radio is an award-winning podcast that is a delightful and surprising look at the relationship we have with our K9 buddies.

Aversive dog training methods recommended on this show
I thought this was a positive reinforcement based dog training show until I heard them recommend using “corrections” to train a fearful dog. That’s a terrible idea and totally unnecessary. A fearful dog is already stressed. Why add even more stress and pain?! That’s not training. It’s abuse. I expect there’s more of that kind of “advice” in the other episodes. I unsubscribed immediately.

    Appreciate the coverage but ...
I do appreciate the coverage of the Iditarod, and I listen each year. However, I just relistened to the episode about Dallas Seavey being cleared by the ITC for their accusation of his doping his dogs. I understand that the hosts are not attorneys but the tone and suggestions of wrongdoing by the musher are pretty extraordinary. (Not to mention that all the speculation — Dallas FOR SURE will run the 2019 race — was 100% incorrect.) Less judgement/more info is my preference.

    Snow dogs! 🙌
A podcast about snow dogs?! Wow! I had no idea there was such a thing but I was immediately intrigued. The host has an amazing presence and draws you into the episodes. This podcast is great for those who like to listen to something new and interesting and as someone who knows nothing about snow dogs, but loves the breed, this was still a delight to listen to!

Who knew dogs were so complex?!
This is a great idea for a show. Kind of a combo of dog culture commentary like Best in Show combined with great advice for understanding our furry friends!

    Entertaining stories & very informative
Learned a lot about the Iditarod listening to the Serum Run Series and then the Decades Series. Listening to current podcasts during the 2019 Iditarod was a terrific bonus at the end of each day. You got some updates, analysis and a feature on a different musher each time. Hope they expand the series next year to include profiles of some of the dogs. Look forward to hearing more info in the meantime on veterinary care, dog care innovations, the history of the Alaskan dog, and perhaps some history of Alaska going back in time to the beginning with the opening of the Bering Strait. Really good camaraderie between the hosts with pleasant voices. Great listening!

    Very helpful for newcomers
My first time following the Iditarod, and these podcasts helped me learn so much so quickly. Covering ALL the mushers, not just the top 5. Egalitarian and wide in scope. Inclusive and entertaining. Thanks everyone!

    Excellent insight into the Iditarod
I started listening during this years race, and I enjoyed the profiles of mushers, new and old, well-known or not. I also enjoyed the behind scenes stories. Things that might not normally make the news. Additionally, they took time to welcome a new fan base, providing explanations of situations more seasoned race fans might know.

Fantastic Iditarod coverage; well produced stories from Iditarod history!
Well produced, captivatingly narrated series on the 1925 Serum Run to Nome with little known details, recounted in dramatic storytelling with sound effects - what a fun listen. The next series, Iditarod Through the Decades is just as interesting and informative for the true dog mushing fan (or vicarious musher)! And, of course, fantastic daily coverage of the race itself, featuring wonderful musher profiles.

Not quite any other podcast like it...that I am aware of! Great for those who are interested in sled dogs, and sled dog sports. But, they too go beyond this topic and branch out in other areas of interest within the canine world including health/care/general discussion. Highly recommended for dog loving enthusiasts! DWR has improved quality from a few years back from good to great, and looking to see where this goes in the future!

    Must have more mush!
Im really enjoying the coverage on mushing! There isn't enough out there for us lonely mentorless mushers so it is nice to listen and soak up as much as we can via over the wire. Keep them coming!
