    Great Vocals
This isn’t the best storyline as it is sporadic. I didn’t feel immersed. The vocals and dialogue are great. The quality of the sounds are amazing.

Everyone Who Wants a Season 2
The rights to this podcast was bought out by the company weave the tale and honestly the only way we can get a season 2 is to convince them that enough people want it their Twitter is ⁦‪@WeavetheTale‬⁩ let them know you want a season 2

    Caesar Cole is the Greatest
I can only aspire to play a character as narcissistic and unpleasant as him someday.

    Exquisite!
Another binge worthy show, start to finish, during my daily commute. Thank you all for your talents and dedication to this show! I’m late to the party but hopefully that means I will stumble upon your next adventure soon.

    One of the best
Creepy, very creative and intricate story, very good character portrayal and development, good production quality, and more “serious” in tone than most actual play shows.

Buckle in because you’re going to need SOME kind of safety.
In the middle of the US lock down in quarantine, decided its time to fiddle through a bunch of the podcasts I kept on hand for a rainy day. Turns out that I was saving the “worst,” for first. Between the various player’s incredible characterization and development, Ben’s NIGHTMARISH ability as a keeper and the over all production quality, it shows that these folks are clearly not to be trifled with. If only they’d stop trifling with the forces of chaos, madness and all things yellow. Cannot wait for season two, please bring out ASAP. Will follow that rabbit hole with immense delight and better pants this time

This is a work of true art. Sometimes, just listening I feel myself slipping. Carcosa... Edit: okay but seriously where’s season two? I’m on my 3rd listen and I NEED MORE! Edit 2: starting my 4th listen... WHERES SEASON 2??!?!!?!!?!??

    Almost great
I really enjoyed this podcast. But I discovered it after the fact. Having 2 of the last 3 episodes not available is unbelievably annoying. Still giving 4 stars as the whole thing was very entertaining but you can’t leave out things that lead up to the ending and not expect to piss people off.

    Otto
You guys better not get Otto killed or I will be triggered, I love that game oaf he just smiles and helps everyone he can. What’s not to love

    Absolutely spellbinding
I discovered this podcast trying to slog through my overnight shift seven days ago and just wrapped up the last episode today. I couldn’t stop listening! It was on while I was gaming, getting ready to sleep, cooking, just as often as possible. Each PC felt fully realized and the GameKeeper had amazing and varied NPCs and painted vivid pictures for those of us lucky enough to be listening. I can’t say enough good things about this podcast, I can’t give it enough stars, I just... I literally can’t even. I came in late enough to see season two is confirmed and I am beyond ecstatic. Thank you all so much for bringing my life such dark happiness 💜

My Favorite Call of Cthulhu Podcast!
Tomes & Tentacles is a fantastic Call of Cthulhu live play podcast with Ben Counter as the amazing, evocative, and brilliant Keeper; a wonderful crew of committed roleplayers and their unique and complex characters; and a deeply compelling story that is at turns mysterious, chilling, hilarious, and terrifying. The production quality makes it feel like you’re listening to an audio drama and fully immerses the listener in the story the cast weaves together. They’re a huge inspiration on my GMing and I absolutely love the podcast!

    Awesome Cthulhu role play podcast!
This is my first time listening to an Encounter Roleplay podcast - these guys did an amazing job bringing the horror noir of the Call of Cthulhu universe to life. Please please make a Season 2, I would love to listen to more CoC roleplay!
  • O1CBR929RR
    Awesome role playing recording
At first I did t like it, but after spending time listening I found it enjoyable; with the sound effects, storyline, and characters. I wish I could play along!

    We Need Season 2!!!
Please, please, PLEASE make another season of this. As someone who has never played Call of Cthulhu but has always wanted to, I absolutely loved this podcast and found it so incredibly entertaining. Great characters, great story. Also, I’m pretty sure that Caesar Cole is my spirit animal, now. Thanks!

Praises and pleading for a second season
I began Tomes and Tentacles around the time it first launched, and spurred me to check out Encounter Roleplay and the wonderful work they do. As an avid CoC player, I fell in love with this podcast. More than most current rpg/dnd podcasts. It’s what I want most out of a game, story, and drama, (as I was raised) playing CoC. This is it in its purest form. The characters are paramount, and the story is the perfect companion to these characters. I can only hope that they will decide to do more down the road. In the meantime I’ll enjoy their masks of nyarlathotep on twitch and YouTube. But I pray to the outer, elder, and old gods for more of this wonderful podcast.

This podcast is a hidden gem
I was blown away by the quality of the players, the keeper's smooth narrative ability, and the quality of the audio. It is just staggering how good it is. I wish they could get more recognition. It reminds me of an old radio drama, with humor, but the humor is never over the top. So well done.

    The greatest feeling
I started off really hating one character and loving the rest. I wanted him to be taken out like an old, dirty rug and beaten. As time went on, he did not grow, but take me by the throat and shake vigorously. Now, coming to the end, not only is he my favorite character, but the greatest feeling in the world is hearing his greatest line; “Caesar Cole SUCCEEDS!”
  • JTI4912
    Hilarious
“If I didn’t give my change in New Orleans...” Bwahaha!

    Buckle Up, Ghouls!
so i’ve never played CoC before but was extremely interested and have been a fan of Encounter Roleplay for a while & decided to give this podcast a binge. and lemme tell u sis, it’s W I L D. each player went in with fully realized characters while still being able to accurately roleplay the mental & physical changes that come along with the horrors they face. our wonderful Keeper Ben has weaved a truly chilling series of events for these unsespectinh characters to attempt to go through. 11/10 definitely recommend! side note: Otto is an angel and if you disagree, you’re cancelled.

Made me a believer of Carcosan Madness 🐙💀!
This podcast piqued my interest when searching for something interesting to listen to on my drives to work. I’m thoroughly enthralled in the story and it’s even inspired me to take up the mantle as keeper for my own sessions of 7th Edition in the coming weeks. Keep up the wonderful work, and may the Old Gods watch over you 🐙 !!!

    Phantom?!
I listen to this podcast on my desk days at work. I love this podcast it’s amazing. I was wondering what happened to Estell(a)e’s cat Phantom. I wonder if Jack Schmeacon (he’s my favorite) took care of it while dodging the mafia maybe? All joking aside the acting is great and the radio drama aspect makes it worth the five stars. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

    Cream of the Crop
One of the very best actual-play podcasts out there. Vivid characterization of both PCs and the vast and various NPCs throughout. Gripping, binge-worthy entertainment well worth your time... especially for those of us who have seen the Yellow Sign.
  • Somedude12346
    Can’t stop listening, but...
Really, really good. Just binged 5 episodes. Just as Turncloaks, chilling and riveting. Only complaint is Estelle, when learning something literally just repeats exactly what the keeper has given her (and us) as information, feels a little dull, but her improv moments make up for it. Absolutely a 5 Star cast.

The best call of Cthulhu roleplaying-PERIOD!
I’ve listened to numerous other rpg podcasts for call of Cthulhu, and needless to say this one wins, hands down! The role play is impeccable, playing out their characters like an old timey radio show from that era. The keeper, what can I say about the keeper? The fact that he creeps the living daylights out of me every time he raises the curtain for a new session is a good sign of a great horror rpg podcast. His depiction of the unique characters and locations gives the perfect flavor, which blends fantastically with the other investigators. The story flows very well, and before you know it, the podcast is over leaving you wanting more! Do yourself a favor if you are a fan of Lovecraft, rpg’s,or looking to learn from a cast of wonderful role players, check this show out now!!!

    In limerick form!
It’s so creepy it might make you weep, And too scared to fall asleep. It’s time to solve the mystery, A great podcast it’ll go down in history, If they fail the price will be steep!
  • Rorik the Bear
Great story and cast of characters!
I find the storytelling compelling and the characters are perfect for the setting. It has me guessing at each interval as to what’s going to happen next.
  • Martin Phoenix
    Bone Chillingly Amazing!
I hope there are many more episodes yet to come, you are all fantastic! It honestly feels more like you’re telling a story rather than playing a tabletop RPG. I can’t wait to hear what comes next, be it this season and every season in the future!
  • GM Leigh
    Nicely done!
Lisening to CoC is always great when it works well, and this works out so well! Great characters, amazing keeper, and just great stuff. I cant wait to hear more!
  • PaperTori
The acting is great and the story is chilling
All the characters are terrible and I love them. Listening to it is like listening to a pulp novel. The story is really compelling and everyone is really unique. 10/10 do recommend.
  • JerTheFair
A horrifically fantastic role play experience.
Just as with all of the podcasts that I have enjoyed from Encounter Role-play (Turncloaks,Wanderquest, and Adventurers Anonymous) Tomes and Tentacles was an entertaining, inspiring, and highly engrossing experience from the moment I hit play. The only issue I can find with this podcast is the unfortunate fact that I must wait a week for the next episode. The players and Lore Keeper are so skillfully engaged in the role-play that they are producing, that I found myself entranced as if listening to a reading from Lovecraft himself. I will be waiting feverishly for the next enthralling episode to arrive in my subscription queue. 5 out of 5 stars. Keep it up!

    Encounter Roleplay Does It Again!
This is another incredible podcast from the creative folks over at Encounter Roleplay! From the DM who can paint a scene most vivid and dramatic, to each member of the cast who delves deep into their characters from the very beginning, Tomes and Tentacles looks well on track to being another smash success. The curtain may have just raised on this tale, but already, the fear of the curtain dropping for our heroes is real, and I cannot wait to see what terrors await us next. Between Tomes and Tentacles, and Encouter Roleplay's other podcasts, Turn Cloaks and WanderQuest, I think I will have plenty of exciting adventure to listen to for a long time to come.
  • Addryc
    So far so Great!
Am almost done with the first episode and I LOVE the characters so far... but I KNOW they are just scratching the surface... I'm sure there are plenty of secrets to come :) There were some GREAT dead-pan moments that lightened the mood a bit that I appreciated, especially with a game as dark as Call of Cthulhu. Looking forward to more! The production quality of the Encounter Roleplay podcasts continues to grow from strength to strength as they get more under their belt and its pretty awesome at this point!
  • jlbeeh
Continues down the path of excellence
The players and keepers of this actual play have some tough shoes to fill following in the wake of other fantastic Encounter Roleplay actual plays. Everyone stepped up and set the characters up to be wonderful and intriguing in all of their mannerisms and quirks. Will be another show to put into my regular rotation, keep up the great work. Woe to those who miss out this opportunity.

Role playing game meets radio drama
This is my first time listening to an actual play podcast, but I love radio dramas. This has the feel of a great radio drama, with interesting characters, surprising twists and turns, and perfect music and sound effects. That it manages all of this by way of an improv role playing game is absolutely amazing. Can’t wait for the next episode.
  • ShinyPilot
Modern day ‘Radio Drama’ with Lovecraft Story and Flair
Amazing and well done! Harkens to the days of radio dramas and stories that used to have all the sound effects, the deep story, the fun characters and the synergy they provide together, and the spooky villains for them to face. The characters all fit well together, have unique mannerisms and voices, and the story progresses wonderfully to keep you sucked in, waiting for the next advancement or shock to strike. I am looking forward very much to the next episode, please keep them coming! Thank you for all your hard work to the cast, host, and technical support crews. Shout out to Lindy, you rock, love your character!
  • Joatmoniac
    Call Cthulu, and say thanks!
The performances are amazing, and the story is destined to lead into a darker and darker place. Thank you Cthulu! Without you this podcast wouldn't be possible!
  • occamysRazor
    Wonderfully chilling!
I follow the other podcasts on the Encounter Roleplay network (Turncloaks and WanderQuest--go check them out!!), and this one is shaping up to be just as enthralling. Members of the worst theatre company ever read a play they really should have left alone and end up paying for it in blood... what could go wrong? Beautiful performances from the Keeper and the players; I can't wait to see what horrors lie in wait for the crew next.
