allons_ykayleeHow I Consume HockeyHockey media can get boring but YCDT experiences hockey in the best way: through vibes, astrology and the homoerotic friendships between these dumb lugs in knife shoes. I’m not even primarily a Caps fan (LGRW!) but they’ve made me one. Just a silly little pod about our silly little sport, I can’t say enough good things.
-
pompoozledi dont even watch hockeywords i learned from this podcast: elan (flair, style, vibe), inchoate (not fully formed, primordial soup-esque), antediluvian (literally: before the flood, generally means super old and sometimes outdated) and of course backcheck (….i’ll let kelly explain)

NightlyMadisonLoad-Bearing Hockey QueensI recently discovered this pod on a hunt for comedy hockey podcasts by women. BOY did this fit the bill. The hosts are so relatable and I feel every bit of the feelings. I am a Columbus fan but I cant help but have a few feelings for their faves! I highly recommend this awesome trio.

sm_ohioThe only hockey analytics needed (Question Mark?)As a caps fan and ex-NOVA resident existing in Kentucky/Ohio who was also on tumblr into her adult years, this podcast makes me feel seen, heard, and generally way less isolated. Eva, Kelly, and Rave are the best versions of my last 3 brain cells. Also my mom (arlington middle school teacher) listened while sitting on 95 with me and she loves y’all too.
-
pheebs1926PheebsI’ve been listening to this pod since I think like their 5th episode??? And now, I’m going back and relistening to every episode because it is one of the few things bringing me joy in the depths of seasonal depression mashed with covid isolation. The hockey coven are my moms and my best friends, and in the alternate no-covid universe we’re living in where players can kiss each other on the mouth, I am also giving them big hugs.

mikayla2126Perfect podcastAs a new hockey fan this podcast has been the best for introducing me to/educating me on the Real hockey issues I want to know about i.e which hockey players are cats and which are dogs, which hockey players are obscure ways to die in the Victorian era and so on! The hosts are SO funny and passionate and every episode is super engaging:) love it so much!

kumiheadWe Like To Have FunThis podcast is the antithesis to sports media that takes itself too seriously. These ladies are scholars of the game despite claiming to only know a medium amount, and they bring a lot of joy to hard days in the world and within the sport. While this podcast is Caps-heavy, I can still enjoy it as a Pens fan. The episode where everyone is hungover was honestly the most flawfree media consumption experience of my life.

Dummy RummyLove these ladiesFunny hockey pod. Go Caps!

ilovetwilightsoomuchitsnotevenfunny!=)Helping My Sanity, One Jamie Benn Impression At A TimeDid you recently get into hockey as a way to survive quarantine and are suddenly filled with intense emotions and many thoughts about hockey that you just want to fling into the world but don’t have any hockey friends?? This is the podcast for you!! Unfortunately in true podcast format, you cannot speak back to the amazing hosts, but when they’re reading your mind and emotions and speaking them into existence, you don’t have to!! Not only does this podcast never fail to make me laugh really hard out loud in public to the concern of passing strangers, but has also educated me, helping me understand the world that I have immersed myself into. This podcast is my happy place. Do yourself a favor and join me! Thank you, You Can’t Do That!

septemberfalconer5 Star Pod, 5 Star FriendsThis pod makes me laugh every week without fail and I love it! The Coven got me back into hockey, and got me to love life again along the way! I love to go back and listen to my favorite old episodes when I’m feeling down, or just need a hearty cackle
-
Neon apologistA joyThe podcast most likely to make my laugh out loud while walking my dog at the idea of Jonathan Toews angrily swaddling an egg. This podcast approaches silly and also important things subjectively, honestly, sexily and seriously and I’m so into it

sherloc homesBest friends? check y/nI’ve been trying to think of a review worthy of this pod for so long because it has brought so much joy to me. My morning commute is full of people looking at me strangely on the metro for full out belly-laughing. When I explain that it’s a “really funny hockey podcast” the looks just get stranger, but I don’t even care. Y’all are so entertaining and full of accurate and important hockey analyses. You have actually changed the way I approach sports as a fan that doesn’t have to pretend to be a hockey fan that happens to be a woman and can actually explore the way my gender ID and attraction interacts with my passion for the sport. On an related note, A couple of weeks ago I had a dream where there was a fully funded and functional women’s hockey league and the DC team was called the Washington Renaissance (the Rens) and their jerseys were Burgundy and gold and I have not been able to stop thinking about this beautiful dream world since. (The symbolism being that women’s hockey being actually appreciated and available to watch would create a rebirth for the sport and its fanbase) Anyway, the first couple of times I listened to this pod I found myself interjecting my own opinions and “which hockeys” out loud because it felt exactly like having a conversation with my best friends. Sincerely, Sam Aspiring friend of the pod

melanie3457The only way to like hockey tbhBless the hockey coven, I bought the merch and love listening to professor Kelly talk about this weird, weird sport. We can discover the wonders of Gritty.

foreverChaotic♥Amazing hockey podcast! Before you read this review hockey coven you should know I have no idea how to change my username which I created when I was probably 13. I’ve been listening to the podcast for a while now and it’s one of my favorite hockey podcasts. It’s also my go to podcast for when I’m driving alone on long road trips. Thank you for keeping me company on those stressful drives and for being amazing and informative on hockey and the Caps!

lkwombatA bright spot in a dark worldThis podcast is the epipen to the anaphylactic shock that is existing in the world in 2019. Do yourself a favor and inject it directly into your bloodstream as soon as possible. These delightful witches have brewed the perfect combination of humor, horniness, actual information, and just a dash of sincere and heartfealt moments. I love to hear about hockey from four people who love hockey as much as I do with the self awareness to call out all the garbage that exists throughout this sport. I've never looked forward to Wednesdays the way this podcast has made me since I started listening to it.

Nothing to the purposethis will make you like a sportSports have always confounded me. So many teams, players, and rules to keep track of! There was so much to learn but nowhere to start. Until now. I enjoyed You Can't Do That with zero starting knowledge of hockey. And then I thought...if I like it this much now, how much will I like it if I actually know a thing about hockey and the horrible boys who play it? Now I have knitted a hat with my local team's logo on it and have plans to see a game (live! in person!!) with my mother. A+ would learn to like a sport again.

daniel kastinWear an ApronI have listened to many a hockey podcast over the past few months of getting into this dumb ice sport and this one has quickly made its way to the top of my list - at first I only backlistened to a few episodes before following along weekly but I’ve now started to listen through everything because they’re just that funny. *Warning: there is a chance you will laugh so hard you spit coffee all over yourself. Three times. Once in the car. Not speaking from experience just as a hypothetical thing that could happen*

sarapheenie<3I look forward to this podcast every week, it’s the highlight of my day and I’ll go on long walks in the cold just so I can enjoy y’alls hot takes as they deserve. It got me into hockey, which has been my saving grace/one fun hobby in grad school and introduced so much joy (and only a little pain) into my life. I’ve also forced my family to listen and not only can I now flex on my brother re: sports, but my sweet gay mothers think Hockey Or Livestock-y is the funniest thing they’ve ever heard. Bless the mom conference, each and every one of you. Thank you for the laughter and the true, honest happiness. xoxo
-
ZTolsonThis pod will save HockeyIf you ever try to listen to horridly boring white men talk about hockey & wonder “what is the polar opposite of this, but still about hockey?” You’re in the right place. The best, nay, the ONLY podcast about hockey worth your ear-time.
-
seriously c'monthe absolute best podcasti’ve never left a review for a podcast before but i literally had stomach cramps while i cried from laughter at work trying not to be that weird person in the silent office seemingly laughing to themselves alone at their desk, i did not succeed but it’s worth it. i’ve told multiple friends and coworkers to listen, hockey fans or not because this podcast is just that amazing it needs to be shared with everyone!
-
ElizzzzardA Gift tbhGuys. Thank you for this podcast. This year was a gd doozy. BUT you all gave me something to look forward to when I haven’t had much of that lately! Listening to you feels like I’m just hanging out with some friends and it’s real nice and genuinely warm feeling?? Not only are you guys (producers included- what up dudes?) and the podcast kickass, but the people I’ve been introduced to on Twitter surrounding you have also been so so kind. Unknowingly or not you all have introduced me to a welcoming community of people, for a sport??? S/o to Rave who got me with Murder-Eyes Backstrom, thanks for that I guess. (I’ve had a lot of stalled conversations of me grasping at straws to try to put my !!!!!! about that man and this team!!! into words!) Writing this is making me real Emosh, but I just had to say thank you to all of you again.
-
hockeynewbieAmazingI freaking love this podcast, I love hearing women talk about hockey the way that I talk with my friends. In the cold hellscape of hockey podcasts, YCDT is a shining beacon of hope and Dreamboats of the Week
-
miss_mustachioThe REAL sports newsFacts? Stats? Numbers? I hate them. This podcast is about the IMPORTANT bits of sports: the drama. Does anyone really care about the math bits of fun stuff? No! The first thing you do when you open a board game is throw away the instruction sheet so you can do it your own way, and that’s exactly what I love about this podcast. This and watching whatever games I can catch are the ONLY ways I keep up with the NHL because I’m classy and (as I said before) don’t care about “rankings” or “reality” in sports so long as I’m having fun. TYSM hockey coven, we love you.
-
theredgoldfisha show about dreamboats, by dreamboatsthis is the most Fun hockey podcast that exists: it’s got heart, it’s got jokes, it’s got the world’s best jamie benn impression. I started listening right as i was getting back into the sport and it’s only become more enjoyable as i re-emotionally-invest myself in it. 10/10, A+, highly recommend.
-
billie00000Mom conferenceThey are fun, they have good jokes, they are best friends, they do not talk about Corsi or shot blocking, but they do understand the delectable spite/love matrix that creates winning teams.
-
BoozleBam932A balm to my fevered existenceI know very little about hockey and care even less about it. But these ladies’ blogs have been oases in many a garbage time for me and their podcast is no different. Listening to them cackle about topics they love like the main characters in 9 TO 5 when they get high at Dolly Parton’s house is honestly such a joy and soothes my soul on a primal level. (I hope they one day bring that same spirit back to the 1D AS podcast.) Keep it up.
-
Jeremy KanterSO MANY FEELINGSOh my god. This is the greatest podcast ever. On my ride home from work today I literally went from openly weeping (listening to the ladies describe the Caps' reactions to beating Tampa) to laughing hysterically (when someone said that Nate Schmidt looks like if they made Spongebob human) in the span of like 30 seconds. As a lifelong Caps fan living in Pittsburgh, this podcast has brought so much joy to my life. I can barely think straight right now writing this review. I don't think I have to words to truly express what this podcast means to me. After the Caps won the Cup, my sister and I started assembling a digital time capsule in a shared Dropbox folder with downloads of the NHL video recap of every game and every drunken photo and video we could pull from social media or the players' Instagram accounts. I'm adding every episode of this podcast to the time capsule. Thank you so much. What you have here is absolutely magical and I hope it continues forever. Please start a Patreon or sell some merch so we can support your work. ❤️❤️❤️

thehappyrainEven this Penguins fan likes the podcastThank you Eva for your love of Geno. I cover my ears when there's Pens chirping. Otherwise I love the podcast!
-
Reilly Evans:’)getting to listen to these 4 gals and reflect on my favorite hockeys and horned up content to distract me from all the terrible awful things happening in my life for a mere hour to hour and a half.... is the best thing i could ask for in this godforsaken world i live in. love you babes ))))

elle.noelI Love One (1) PodcastYou Can’t Do That is probably the most joyful pod in existence- a wonderful, zippy sugar rush of love, friendship, and shared enthusiasm for large slabs of men. Listening to this is like being invited to the Cool Kids’ sleepovers, if the Cool Kids were four horny women who I also wanted to be my moms. On a more ~serious~ note, I truly love and appreciate the way in which this pod candidly talks about desire- hilariously, full of obvious fantasy components- but never disrespectfully, without ever rendering the objects of that desire incompetent or faceless or even all that objectified. I think that’s really important!! There’s so much more I love about it- how side-splittingly funny it is, how smart, how (at times) genuinely educational it can be. I knew nothing about hockey four months ago but now I Care and I am a better person for it. Hail Hockey Satan, hail Rave’s muppet-style Jaime Benn voice, and hail the wonderful people who produce this show for our listening pleasure.
-
OtakuSFHHockey Podcasting at its finestThese ladies present an amazing show whenever they put one out. I don’t listen to many podcasts more than once but as a die hard hockey fan of the capitals this is a must. Their segments have left me dying laughing many times. I may not be their target audience but they’ve made a die hard fan out of this guy. Give them a listen and you won’t be disappointed
-
kaytheboldhave you ever just wanted drama completely unrelated to your lifeThis podcast is like listening to a kitchen full of my tipsy aunts gossip about people I’m only vaguely familiar with. (I have to google every single hockeyman referenced here and the results surprise me every time.) This podcast made me more invested in a sporting event than I have ever been in my gay life. This podcast caused me to ask a coworker, in complete earnestness, “did you catch the game last night?” Transformative. 5/5.
-
sophie prWHAT IS HOCKEY, I DON'T KNOWThis podcast captures so much love and glee of having female friends... i don't know a single thingle about hockey, but this podcast makes me wish i did!
-
carolinewitzif all sports were like this, I would hate men slightly lessthis podcast makes me want to understand hockey but mostly it allows me to engage in my favorite thing which is people talking enthusiastically and knowledgeably about the specific things they like and feeding off of the emotions/general sparkle-in-eye investment in things I know nothing about! so much joy!
-
mkwotursthe absolute bestthis is such a hilarious and dumb and good podcast that is incredible for people who love hockey and also incredible for people who know absolutely nothing about it!!
-
lilah80You're all invited to a sleepoverYou know the golden hour at about 2 a.m. when you and your pals have been laughing and shrieking at each other all night, after a day spent being rowdy while window shopping and ordering every appetizer on the menu, and your voice is hoarse and your stomach hurts from how hard you've been laughing (and also possibly how many mozzarella sticks you've eaten), and you are all draped around each other in a blanket pile and you know you should go to sleep but you're filled with a warm glow of love and fellowship and the knowledge that you can Get Weird about the things you love in front of these people and they will still think you're wonderful? That's the vibe of this, the ONLY sports podcast I will probably ever follow. Prior to You Can't Do That, the only things about hockey that spoke to me were the punching and Soviet defection stories, and I felt guilty about liking the first part. Getting to follow along in real time as the hockey coven lives through a historic playoffs season for their family, the Washington Capitals, is an incredible treat. I love that in addition to experiencing the camaraderie, I'm actually learning about sports psychology and sociology and cultural differences within hockey-playing nations and key historical figures in hockey. (Keep those defection stories coming, guys.) Finding out that sports fandom can be joyful and weird instead of dour and math-obsessed and full of gatekeepers has been a gift.

QathosThe aural equivalent of a therapy sessionFirst of all, these wonderful people are responsible for getting me back into sports after a long period of disillusionment. They bring a positive, fun, and inclusive attitude that's just infectious! Sports content is so often dominated by men with crappy opinions and unjustified egos. It gets exhausting after a while. I'm just going to say it – the You Can't Do That team are out here singlehandedly rescuing sports content with sheer glee and unabashed exuberance. The only sports podcast that consistently lifts my mood for entire hours at a time, 11/10 would recommend!
-
Iris SAwowowowY'all are the people I wish I could go to games with! Listening in will suffice, though. My weird reactions to sports and hockey in particular are not reciprocated so it's nice to know I'm not the only one acting this way. Also! This college athlete/poli sci major is looking to somehow intersect political theory of communities/intl politics of the olympics withhockey for a BIG PAPER one day so thanks for the constant inspo!! lots of love
-
hhazuchaGreat Podcast, even though I’m a Pens fanI love listening to these ladies! They are so funny and I can’t wait each week for a new episode. I am a Pens fan, and I still enjoy it! I’ve been telling all of my non-hockey watching friends to listen and they love it, too.
-
SDC637The strangest goddamn podcastFour stone cold weirdos yell about a sport I don’t watch but I’ve listened to every episode.
-
BekstekLike hanging out with my friendsI love listening to You Can't Do That. This podcast gives me everything I want from sports (Hockey in particular): The Drama within the Hockey World, discussions of dreamboats, and delightful humor and conversation. I don't pay attention to actual hockey, I just listen to this podcast, and it's all I need. Catie, Eva, Kelly, and Rave are the best, and every time I tune in, I feel like an honorary Hockey Coven member.
-
Traveling soulAwesome!Just discovered this pod and LOVE it!!!
-
beatricemurraya podcast for the podcastlessone moment, you're a fairly well-adjusted human being; the next, you have opinions about brad marchand's tongue and email confirmation for your purchase of washington capitals branded underwear. can i blame this phenomental hockey podcast ENTIRELY for the turn my life has taken? listen and you be the judge.
-
⚡️🌟💫✨⭐️💁♀️Do I know anything about hockey? No. Will I ever watch a game? Maybe by accident. Do I love this podcast very much? Yes.
-
bethanycarol92Laughing ListenerI tend to listen to this podcast on my commute home, and I’ve gotten more than a few weird looks for laughing alone in my car like a goober. This is the perfect mix of actual hockey facts, suffering, thirsting, and then most importantly, dragging this terrible sport and all the men involved in it (even though we love it). I get so excited when a new episode is released, and I love listening! Keep up the great work ladies! (Also I’m a huge fan of Swedes in ABBA costumes and/or mesh crop tips becoming the new uniforms... lets do this)
-
bekahlynn20Need a laugh? Listen to thisPros: Insightful commentary about a sport I love sprinkled with game analysis and appreciation of my favorite dreamy hockey players. Genuinely the funniest podcast I've ever listened to. Cons: Solely responsible for making me care about the Washington Capitals, which isn't something I, a south Texas girl, needed in my life.
-
StarliteShelbyYou should be listening to this podcast. Yes, you. This podcast gives enlightening and entertaining insights into the absurd world of hockey. Unfiltered commentary? They've got it. Scholarly sports discussion? They've got that too. I'm hooked and I look forward to each new episode.

mcroce3Honestly ESPN Bros Could F**king NEVERI’ve only just started to get into “The Worst Sport Ever” a couple months ago from some rad lady co-workers (thanks, Aimee!) and tbh if a man tried to explain it to me, I would actually legit think it was The Worst Sport Ever. Thank Hockey Satan for these four awesome ladies, who understand that cold-hard statistics and mind-numbing rants about strategy are for squares & losers. The Quality Content™ that the people want, need, and deserve that they deliver include: Which of the Hockey’s Are Dogs & Which Are Cats; Why Does Justin Williams Make a Good Stepdad; What is Jamie Benn’s Favorite Cereal (complete with impersonation); Fun/Devastating Inter- and Intra-Team Friendship Anecdotes; Which Hockey Makes People Nervous... Sexually; What a PowerPoint Presentation by a Hockey Would Look Like; and more. If you like the Caps, this is for you. If you like the Pens or the Ducks or the Blackhawks, eh, maybe not. If you’re like me and are willing to drink whatever Capitals’ Red-colored Kool-Aid these ladies hand over to you, you’re in the right place. TL;DR: Come for the hockey stuff and stay for the hilarious re-caps, elaborate fantasies, and intense projections.

Usvaldo deLeonBest hockey podcast- certainly the funniestI love hearing these women discuss hockey. Knowledgeable, irreverent and very funny, this is the best.
