Talk Heathen is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared toward long-form and on-going dialogue with theists & atheists about religion, theism, & secularism. Call 1-512-991-9242 every Sunday from 1-2pm CDT. Talk Heathen is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop & support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing & friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of government-religion separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists & to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

This show is becoming Un watchable...

From listening to the same callers every week to having rambling hosts that just want to hear themselves talk, there is very little of substance in this show anymore. Really used to look forward to this show and keep trying to give the benefit of the doubt. Just can't listen anymore.

I 💖 Talk Heathen but if I have to … on Tues…. When show aired Sunday?!!! Go to U TUBE to hear the Previous Sunday Episode I’ll just delete the podcast app! I subscribed to Podcast thinking it would be supportive of the show! Seriously AXP is up by Sunday Night! Why is Talk Heathen not uploaded? So If I have to just go to U tube I won’t be watching as often! I’ll forget it!

I’ve tried listening a few times

But it just isn’t for me. A lot of my values align with the hosts’ but I guess I’ve figured out that I just like these kinds of discussions more when it doesn’t feel like listening to a teen who recently became an atheist arguing then storming off.

Eric has one of the most calm and relaxing voices ever. I listen to the podcast every week but I go back and listen to older ones when I am agitated because Eric has a way of relaxing my frazzled brain. Plus Vi is one of the most kind and understanding people I have ever heard speak. Vi has a way of relating to people I will never be able to.

If the hosts one Atheist Experience are too abrasive for you, I suggest this podcast. Still very intelligent, engaging hosts but they have a little more patience with some of the more difficult callers. Great show, Eric is bomb.

Excellent Show!

For a call in show that has both theist and atheist callers Eric and the crew do an awesome job in production quality, intellectual conversation, and overall just being great people to listen to and learn from. I have learned so much about logical fallacies and am now able to spot a lot of them in my own life and it drives me nuts now when people can’t see it. But anyway thanks again and keep up the great work!

Logic!

The hosts are brilliant in their dissection of fallacious arguments that people use to support their irrational beliefs. Eric and Vi are the hosts I have heard the most, but the others are excellent also. I appreciate that they are kind to people, and are not condescending. They are also helpful directing people to appropriate help if they are struggling with leaving religion and the trauma religion has caused them.

Makes logic fun

One of, if not the best call in show/ podcasts out there! The host, Eric’s, insurmountable patience, and ability to break down a question and give his best advice is refreshing and sometimes heartwarming. A deep well of knowledge, Eric and his fellow co-hosts are often times more educated on the subject of topic more so than the caller. However, they can still admit when wrong ( see tidal locking moon debacle) ;p It’s a great listen every Monday to help get through an hour or two of work. Hope to get out to Austin sometime in the future to see the operation in person. Great work, keep it up!

So I’m writing a five star review bc Eric said we were failing at giving iTunes reviews. This is my evidence that I personally am not failing. This show gets 5 stars bc it’s greatness. Eric is awesome, also has great hair and explains the stuffs most excellently. Vi is also awesome and does in fact have great hair as well and explains stuff in the most excellent of ways that make me think thoughts and make me feel smarter. You’re smarter for listening to them. So be smart and listen ya might learn something. We can all be smart and filthy heathens together! Which is the best way to be. Five stars and 2 thumb digits way up.

Calm, cool, and rational

Listened online for a long time his perspective and cool and kind way of rationalizing, with peoples irrational beliefs helped me to create a rational and constructive way to see reality. Before I feel I was just making up what ever to get me through the day. He helped me to think clearly and challenged my views enough that with a few other septics and humanists online, to the point my antivaxer but started researching everything. I freed my self from a fundamentalist cults leftovers bits of mind control, from bad and/or just ignoring scientific, from a cloud of filters which my thoughts had to pass through to rationalize, and I’m able to question much more too.

Helpful and Kind

I got into this show about 2 years ago. This show has helped me really flush out some ideas I couldn’t put into words on my own, and understand how to listen and question! I definitely use some of these questioning techniques with my students as well! Thank you!

Love-rings to Eric Murphy

Eric Murphy and his co-hosts have taught me how to have conversations of any kind with any person about any topic in a warm, kindhearted, and loving manner. I have recently come out to my wife and family that I am an atheist. I have GAD and SAD and have a hard time communicating tough subjects with people, including my own family. Listening to episodes of Talk Heathen and to Eric’s very cordial and sympathetic approaches have helped me to meet people where they are at in their own lives and have very productive conversations. I LOVE this show!

I’m so happy I found you guys 2 years ago! I was raised Ukrainian American 1st generation Protestant fundamentalist here in Washington State, my childhood was stolen from me by religion and I’m 30 now...this show and the Atheist Experience has been blowing my mind because I am hearing all the things I’ve only ever thought in my head quietly! I’ve been atheist for 3 years, and this show has helped the process I don’t feel alone in this!
