Jackson SpiderGary FeverI love this pod so much. It’s always a blast year round, but it’s never more exciting than when we’re entering the Oscar race. Really enjoying the movie draft recaps at the top of the ep and I appreciate that they’re easily skippable now for people who might not vibe. I’ve been getting some friends to listen too and it’s clear to say that Gary fever is sweeping the globe. Thanks Chris and Joe!

jiggsy546Fun show! The IMDB game is elite, I play it with my friends all the time now.

HopedeDopeMore Dan HedayaAt it’s best when they are talking about Dan Hedaya. More Dan Hedaya!

Deeno DY’all forgot to whisper “Mary Reilly” in your Jeffrey (1995) episode! You referenced Glenn Close’s performance in Mary Reilly but didn’t whisper the title after! It always makes me laugh! Nevertheless, 5 stars. Keep up the great work.

brittanymeljA Real GaryFun and fascinating look at the often cynical awards racket.
-
lovely13wordsAlways excellent! The TIFF episodes could be five hours long and I’d be seated and ready to listen to every minute. A+++ pod.
-
JenivcNeed to work on how they speakVery hard to listen to when they say “like” every other word.

imcmocBest pod for Oscar loversDiscovered this podcast about 6 months ago and I’ve been bingeing every episode since! Joe and Chris are so knowledgeable and funny. If you love the Oscars or have any nostalgia for the Academy Awards you must listen!

wut223My favorite podcast series at the momentSince “You Must Remember This” concluded its erotic cinema mini series, I’ve been looking for my podcast fix…and found it here plus a community I didn’t know I could find in this space. “This Had Oscar Buzz” gives me everything I look for in a podcast: intentionally researched cinema history, funny and relevant archival video cut ins, inspired guests and games designed for me, contemporary industry analysis and of course awards season prognostics. Feel like I’m talking with people who love and advocate great indie cinema just as much as I do. Keep up the great work!

Iva KinnairdMy Best (Friends) PodcastFun and engaging conversations. It feels like they know EVERYTHING about movies, until the games at the end and you’re yelling answers at your phone. I love these guys! This is my ONLY podcast subscription. The value is so worth it. Proud to be a certified Gary! 🖤

Bob 01970Can’t.stop.listeningNew to this podcast and I cannot stop listening to it! Such great deeeeep dives into the movies they select, with fantastic tangents to other films and awards of each particular year. The well-researched and fun banter is much appreciated! Thanks!

MissionManSFComfort food ☑️What better way to blank out the election year horrors of 2024 than with the OC delights of Joe & Chris?
-
fluppetBad sound qualitySounds like it’s recorded with built-in laptop mics. Also they talk over each other and interrupt guests so much that it’s frustrating.
-
YendorrivereGreat chemistrySo good!
-
ElfherbieFantasy Oscars - Please stopI had to stop listening because most of the episode is an advertisement for the fantasy Oscar pool. Was it a full third of the Beautiful Boy episode? I’ll probably add it back into my feed after Oscar season.
-
cliobcMust-Listen Show but please don’t guess on Irish names!I love you guys, and I appreciate that you have always been upfront on your pronunciation failings, and I get your instinct to sidestep by going for what seem like a safe nickname…. but ‘Dom Gleeson’ is beyond the pale! It sounds like DOUGH nul.

DeeStuy16Brightening My DayThank you for breaking into this gloomy day in Brooklyn with a special podcast. At first I was just listening if I was familiar with the selection. Now I don’t miss an episode. One of my favorite podcasts. I appreciate your work and passion.

TMnSDHillary / BarbieCalm down. You clearly missed the point. Sec Clinton was merely pointing out that she knows what it what it feels like to go for the gold and while making it in one sense (most popular votes for her/biggest $ for Barbie) but still not get the final prize (prez/chance at an Oscar). Was it clumsy? Yes. Does it deserve a pile on? No. She was showing solidarity and subtly including a get out the vote message.

myly110Certified GaryHave enjoyed the show for several years, initially finding it thanks to Joe’s regular presence on the Blankies. I enjoy the chemistry of the hosts, and the infectiously obsessive enthusiasm that they share with all of us strangers (… I fear a future episode) who continue to keep our own spreadsheets. The highlights tend to be an unexpected rabbit-hole, or perhaps a game that has me shouting answers aloud in the car, but what keeps me coming back is the genuine love of movies and the strange machine around them. I’ve also found myself thriving in the Vulture Movie Fantasy League surely in part due to their expertise. Newest subscriber to their Patreon, “Turbulent Brilliance” for good measure! I figure I couldn’t potentially win the AllofusGarys league and not support the good work y’all do. 😉 Thanks! PigeonDoctor

Ravengrey26Everything you WantOne the last few years Joe and Chris have become like old friends. Their perspectives and thoughtful analysis on films of the almost Oscar nominated are sublime. I love podcasts and this is the first I elected to pay for the Patreon for additional content. It’s just that good!
-
Rachel from CALove this podcast!I always look forward to This Had Oscar Buzz! the hosts are smart, fun, and have an encyclopedic knowledge of movies. I feel I’m listening to people who are just as nerdy about movies and award shows as I am. It's the perfect podcast to listen to when I’m commuting to work.
-
hot n sour soupi love you guys!i love this podcast very much!! it is the most wonderful feeling to hear two intelligent funny people talk at length about something i care so deeply about. their 100 snubs series actually made me tear up over how much i love movies, and not many can say that!! the fact that joe and chris do all of this work and research simply for the love of the game with no monetary incentive really makes my heart warm. i would give them pretty much any amount of money they asked for if they did charge for this content, but there is something so beautiful about the fact that they dont ? thank you joe and chris for your research and hard work, you have gotten me thru the hard times!!!!! tl dr this has oscar buzz is anti capitalist praxis

polarcait90s TrailersJust started listening to this podcast because of Blank Check, so this was an ask from a while ago…but the 90s VHS trailer I remember most distinctly was “Bed of Roses”. I never saw the movie and I can’t remember what movie it was on (maybe now and then?) but I was obsessed with the idea of it. Anyways love this podcast includes every movie tangent you could ask for!

Smurfette 29The only podcast I listen to!I randomly stumbled on THOB three years ago and seriously haven’t listened to anything since. Chris and Joe are my spiritual twins: gays who grew up in the 90s devouring _Entertainment Weekly_! They’re funny, smart, and sweet, and I hope this podcast never ends.
-
gravy_train12False advertisingTerrible podcast!! They don’t talk about what the title says they’ll talk about it’s awful
-
_______Nate999:-DLook forward to this podcast every week!

Johnny T. That is me.Excellent!Quite!

MusicIsLife212Always a treat, especially during May!This podcast brings me such joy. Even when I haven’t known the films being discussed, the banter, enthusiasm and passion that Joe and Chris have for cinema is something wonderful. Listening to this podcast always brings me joy, and the 100 Snubs have been excellent shows. I hate to see May end!

Not a Sampras fanFix one tick!First of all, I just want to say, I spent my entire life thinking I was the only weirdo gay kid who obsessively read absolutely every article about the Oscars and re-read books going over the same ground of past Oscars. Blah blah blah thank you for normalizing me with your hilarious and smart podcast. I just have one not criticism, but suggestion. Joe, you have a tendency to drop your voice when you name the movie or actor, or whatever after you have been doing a big build up to. As the Oscar queen that I am, I am so excited to hear what you’re about to reveal and when you drop your voice, I can’t make it out sometimes and I’m rewinding or I’m begging there will be a clue in the next few sentences of what you say. Like I said, just a small tick and I love you two so much. I own an Indy bookstore in Woodstock New York. Come visit me there and I’ll give you a free book.—james

MainJeffersThis podcast could be really good, but it’s notThe hosts are smart, the topics are interesting to a regular cinephile, and there is always some interesting points made…. But this podcast suffers from the problem most “movie” or “film” topic podcasts do. So many lame movie podcasts are inundated with two or three “bros” or female/female or female/male hosts who engage in endless minutes of inane personal banter for the first __th minutes of the show and regularly break into their uninteresting private history and private jokes. This one is no different. If these two guys would just get to the topic and stay with the topic, and avoid the inside chuckles and pointless self-references, the stars award this show would climb to four or five very quickly.
-
RockhallfanI love this showMy only complaint about this show is that I wish it were uploaded earlier in the day on Monday because I am usually refreshing my feed like every twenty seconds until it pops up.
-
Ollie1939LoveLove. Love the games so much. Also- who are these Garys that can’t tell the difference between Chris and Joe?!
-
fanny dashwoodTardy for the partyAs a fellow movie nerd, Chris and Joe’s dissection of these movies is very enjoyable. I’m just upset I didn’t find this podcast sooner.
-
buzzbuzz724An unfortunate declineBeen a listener since day 1 but quality has significantly dropped in the past 6 months. Please please go back to the tight time format and discussing *actual* oscar-buzzed films. Feeling gaslit by some of the latest titles (cough cough MMXXL).
-
inspired to pay attentionIt’s great! These guys are so smart about movies. They really do all of the hard work so that you can scoop up the most notable.
-
My DoooodMehThere are better podcasts where two embittered incels pat themselves on the back for their middlebrow taste
-
Twinv444All the knowledge!!These two are SO charming, funny and extremely knowledgeable about film and Oscar history. If they get off track regarding their topic they still somehow stay on track and it’s enjoyable! Also love their games that close out an episode :)
-
Bloop123bloopBones and Y’allPlease do a Bones and All ep. I am forever scarred (for better or worse) from the Chloe Sevigny of it all & need your long-form take.

Lyn59My favorite driving companionsListening to Joe and Chris makes the long, anxious drives to visit my elderly parents so much more pleasant. I bank a few episodes and the miles fly by. I particularly appreciate their love and respect for actresses and their witty, but never mean, examinations of filmmaking failures. Their knowledge and recall of movie history is astounding.
-
kemit the frogGreatAwesome chemistry, fantastic concept.
-
Fes123456Good show overallThe podcast is good but the films should have Oscar buzz - the meddler did not - if you are going to do an off episode then essentially say this should have had Oscar buzz and say why it didn’t Sometimes the games are not fun for the listener
-
AudreyistaRecent episodes have been disappointingI still really like the show but I don’t need every episode to include a twenty minute meditation on the Death of Cinema and hand wringing about what a shame it is that so many stories are being told as tv shows instead of movies. If you guys are curious about why tv Twitter is always so defensive about TV’s place in the culture, this is why. Some day I’d like everyone to just be happy that talented people are getting work instead of getting so hung up about what medium it’s happening in.
-
bay_coolAmazing Oscars and Film History Lesson!Always wildly impressed with Chris and Joe’s research and knowledge. Really fun listen each week - even if I haven’t seen the film the episode is centered on.
-
kelli elizaProud GaryFunny , great chemistry between Joe and Chris , they’re both so knowledgeable and opinionated in a great way. It’s an absolute joy to listen to!
-
NabbyadamsThe bestI am essentially uncultured and never watch movies yet I love this podcast so much I’ve listened to every episode in less than a year’s time and am now going back to repeat. It’s perfect. I can’t even explain why, despite talking about it to everyone I know. Joe and Chris, I’m still waiting for the chance to buy my “we will get into it” tote bag, please take my money <3
-
d._a._GREAT PODCASTI listen every week! I love Joe and Chris’ wealth of knowledge and humor they use to dissect all my favorite forgotten films and also so many movies I’ve never heard of, taking a truly original approach to the tried and true “oscar movie” topic. Highly recommend!!
-
combat BallerinaFsvoriteOne of my favorite podcasts…have listened since the first episode, not sure why I haven’t reviewed. Appreciate their vast knowledge and respect for one another. Great rapport, and some people complain about but I love the ranbit holes and length!!
-
Best4richI wish the hosts would be adultsLike oh my God this podcast was like so hard to like listen to because like they sp speak like they were 16-year-old high school girls like oh my God. I wanted to like this podcast and what it’s content could be about and the narrators hosts made it so unpleasant because of the way they spoke. The hosts lose all credibility in my book because of the way they speak,
