    Excellent podcast for Intermediate Spanish
I find if this is a great website to listen to when I am walking or taking care of things around the house. Joel has very interesting guests and he seems to have a great sense of humor and the Spanish is at level that I can understand quite well. It is a great way to immerse yourself in Spanish.

    Thank You
Hola, I'm an IB student who is testing in Spanish, if you're familiar with the curriculum, you need to be comfortable listening to Spanish conversations for the exam. I've made it my goal this year to improve my Spanish by listening to podcasts like this one, and this is my favorite. I appreciate that you can learn about multicultural aspects of Spanish culture, learn everyday phrases and colloquial terms, as well as get used to hearing this beautiful language. Thank you so much and I look forward to every episode! 🫶

Definitely recommended for Beginner- Intermediate levels like me (more towards Beginners 😝)
Recently discovered podcast with interesting topics and conversations but , at the same time, easy enough to be able to understand. If your level is in-between Beginner and Intermediate, this is the perfect podcast to listen to. It must be my favorite podcast in Spanish ! Thank you, Joel and the team! Please keep up the good work.

    Great podcast for learning Spanish
I started with Duo and found it lacking. I discovered comprehensible input and Dreaming Spanish. This podcast is a wonderful addition to my daily listening/viewing practice. I highly recommend this podcast for anyone looking to advance their Spanish. Easy to understand topics, conversations with many Spanish speakers and a great resource guide for new words and phrases. Thanks Joel

    A Gift
Joel is a gift from the gods. Thanks for making this! I learned more in 1 month listening on my commute to work than I did doing a year on Duolingo. Nothing against the language apps out there, but I found immersion was really missing in my learning. Joel makes some great points about unconscious acquisition of language. 10/10.

    Great Podcast for Learners
Omg! I love the podcast. I just found it yesterday and decided to start from the beginning (2019). I’m thankful that I did. Easy to follow conversations, well, appropriate for your language level. I appreciate the additional resources to help me to become better and confident. Thank you for this, Joel!

    I love this podcast!!
I’ve spent decade trying to become more or less fluent in Spanish. I can read books fairly well. I can usually make myself understood, although I am sure, I mangle the grammar. but when people talk to me, my eyes glaze over. It sounds like one mile long word. If I ask them to repeat one word at a time, I can usually get what they’re saying. This conversation podcast is going to make a huge difference. Just listened to my first one, and I can get the cadence of the language and pick out words, which is impossible when someone is talking to me and I am stressing about trying to understand. Or watching movies and not wanting to miss something important in the plot. This approach feels much more organic: listening to people speak normally, getting what I can and not worry about it. I listened to it twice and got more the second time. So happy to have found this! It might be what puts me over the edge, finally, being truly conversational.

    Conversations in Spanish
I am on my 1282nd day of DuoLingo, I like the reinforcement. I subscribed to Pimsleur and listened to the 5 courses with 30 lessons each 5 times but I needed more conversation and listening.DuoLingo Podcasts helped me with the listening but I needed more. I discovered Joel Zarate’s Conversations in Spanish , learning Spanish in context. I am now on the 108th episode. The lessons focus on various topics such as health, food and the customs of most of the Spanish speaking countries. The beauty of the lesson is that while learning in context there is usually a focus on a particular grammar lesson (reflexive, preterite and etc). I can do my morning long walk while listening to the lesson through my ear phones. If you are beyond beginner stage and need more listening these lessons are perfect for you. Conversations in Spanish is the icing on the cake.

    Great pod
Once upon a time I was proficient in Spanish but in my day to day life I don’t use Spanish so my skills have waned. This pod has helped me get used to listening to the language again and I’m looking forward to a trip to Mexico later this year.
  • Winks2u2
    Immersive
Spanish is not spoken hardly at all where I live so I appreciate being able to hear real conversations to supplement my classroom-oriented app. Now the challenge is to find opportunities to practice speaking out loud in normal conversations.

    Enjoyable learning
I am at intermediate Spanish speaker, and I find this podcast challenging. I like that the vocabulary stretches my knowledge, and the topics are diverse. I particularly like that the two podcast hosts speak different forms of Spanish. One is a Mexican, speaking Mexican Spanish, and the other is a Spaniard speaking, Castilian Spanish. There are also many guests who come from many places in the Spanish-speaking world.

    Que recurso buenisimo!
Este podcast, y todo que Señor Zarate, y sus colegas ofrecen son my bueno. Estoy a nivel intermediante (abajo) en Español, y este podcast me ayuda mucho - a escucchar, a aprender y a comprender. Tambien, no puede perdirse la novela, Los Diamentes De Esmeralda por Joel Zarate. Es una historia muy dulce, y me ayudé mucho. Gracias por todo!

    Review on Joel and Alba
I want to thank Joel and Alba for their wonderful podcast to help improve mi espanol. I an a high intermediate and work with Spanish speakers all over Latin America. The diversity of their podcasts with different Spanish speaking accents, styles and speeds is very beneficial. The mixture of these spaces allows for a wonderful learning environment. I listen to at least 5-6 Spanish speaking podcasts weekly and Joel and Alba are two of my favorite listens. Keith H Texas

Very good for beginners and intermediates
I would like to retract my three star review and change it to five stars. I had my wife listen to your response to my review. My wife, who is fluent in Spanish, pointed out to me that true beginners would not even understand Spanish spoken slowly. Therefore, this podcast is suitable for intermediates. I am grateful for the opportunity to listen to these podcasts and broaden my comprehension of Spanish. So thank you for all your hard work.

    I absolutely love this podcast!
I absolutely love this podcast! As an upper intermediate Spanish learner, this is perfect for me. The advance level grammar, vocabulary, and subjects keep me fully engaged, and enthusiastically learning more. Joel is an excellent host, as I find his methods to be effective. The topics are varied and engaging. He sometimes has special guests, who are subject matter experts, from all over the Spanish speaking world, which adds immense value. He shares his personal, relatable experiences in language acquisition and life experiences. Joel is great on the ears, as he has a pleasant- sounding tone, and speaks with a natural pace. I’ve learned a lot of cultural, idioms, and grammatical points in the last 4 months, since I became an avid listener. I have recommended this podcast to friends. I recommend this to you!

This is the PERFECT podcast for intermediate and advanced listeners
I love this podcast because not only do you get to listen the voices of hispanohablantes from various countries all of the world, but also from non-native speakers sharing their stories of how they learned the language, as well as other recommendations from other podcasts content creators. I love the sense of community between the hosts and guests and will continue listening to help me with my DELE studies and beyond. They really understand the concept of comprehensible input and put it to use in their content and the way they speak. Thank you Joel and team!!
  • nomoreloosepages
    Loved my first listen
First time listening to this podcast. Joel is SO GOOD at keeping his speaking tempo down. I can not only follow the meaning but I have a moment to consider and reflect on an unexpected grammar usage or vocabulary. I expect to be listening a lot more in the future. Muchas gracias!

Develops listening skills with interesting conversations
These podcasts have been a wonderful way to improve my listening skills. It is so much fun to hear about other people’s lives, to grow accustomed to different accents, and to enjoy the pleasure they experience in having a conversation. Profesor Zárate, thank you for this incredible treasure trove of audios for intermediate Spanish speakers.

    Outstanding Podcast, Highly Recommend
Professor Zarate and his colleagues have created wonderful podcasts that help learners develop listening skills while learning about other countries' culture, food, and traditions. I have listened to a few dozen podcasts and all have been informative. If you plan to travel to a spanish speaking country listen to the podcasts about that country. Not only will you learn about it's traditions and infrastructure, you will also hear the accent of the native speaker from that country. Thanks Prof Z!

    Chuckling
This would be so much better if it wasn’t for all the chuckling. But I guess I have to take responsibility for not understanding the jokes.
