It’s like hanging out with your nerdy dog friends!
Just like the title says, listening to this podcast feels like you’re just hanging out with your nerdy dog friends. I adore training my dog and I’m an environmental scientist, so listening to this podcast combines my love of those two things, along with education! I find myself nodding along and basically talking to Kayla and her guests each episode on my commutes (though I know they can’t hear me). I’ve taken a deep dive since discovering this podcast and can confirm that all the episodes are interesting, engaging, and just straight up fun! Plus, as a bonus, they give me so many ideas on how to play/train/work on nose-work with my own dog! If you love nature, conservation, dog training, or even just science, you will enjoy this podcast.

Found by accident and how lucky for me!
I’m not sure how I stumbled across this podcast but I’m so glad I did! I’m a dog trainer with a great interest in nose work. This podcast has covered such a wonderful variety of topics in a welcoming, accessible way. I spend a lot of time driving and this has helped pass the time and given me so many awesome rabbit holes to deep dive down!

I’ve been listening to this Podcast for a couple years now and it’s never not amazing! Kayla consistently puts out really interesting and informative episodes. It’s kind of absurd how much I’ve been able to learn about dog training and conservation through just one podcast. If you’re into dogs and conservation this podcast is definitely for you!

    Big thumbs up!
I’m so grateful for Kayla and many other guests she had on her podcast. This helped me with many different topics with two different dogs and it is truly educational and fun to listen to! Keep up the good work Kayla!

So grateful to have found this podcast!
So I have been intrigued by the idea of “Canine Conservation” for a few years, but struggled to find much info available to the general public. I could find professional Canine Conservation companies online who offered their scientific services for hire, but I did not know where to look to learn more. I had searched podcasts several times but I must not have been not putting in the correct search terms. Luckily, I came across Kayla Fratt’s K9 Conservationists podcast and have had a hard time it turning off! I have learned so much and I am so grateful that she has taken the time and energy to share her love and knowledge of this intriguing topic. The episodes are quite informative and Kayla also manages to keep them light and enjoyable. I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone is interested in wildlife conservation or anyone who is interested in the fascinating world of working dogs.

    Love the show!
This is one of my favorite podcasts! The host is very thoughtful and interviews a variety of interesting guests. But the thing I like most is that the topics are quite varied, from training to ecology to safety issues to how to grow the field of conservation dog work and more.

    Awesome resource, Patreon even better!
Wow, thank you so much to the whole K9 Conservationist team and to Kayla for being a resource for this field. The knowledge base is so well rounded. There are science highlights for recommended papers to read, book club digging into the nuts and bolts of theory, and coaching calls, which are even helpful if you are a lower tier member viewing them Although I imagine it will only be a matter of time before I want to get personal feedback myself. The podcast is also in a conversational tone and would be easily understood by non-science folks. Give it a listen!

    A fun and informative listen!
Kayla and her guests are so generous in sharing their knowledge about ecology, dog behavior, and scentwork. I really appreciate how their conversations span from theory to practical applications. My favorite part may be Kayla’s thoughtful focus on the behavioral health of working dogs. Thanks for making such a fun podcast!

Not “JUST” about dogs detecting data!
Kayla’s authentic, enthusiastic interest in all of her guests and topics, paired with her knowledge in a variety of scientific fields makes this podcast fun, interesting and informative. If you have any interest in dogs, nature, travel, science….even pursuing your dreams, you will love this podcast.

    Animals are simply resources
The producers of this podcast seem to have the view that animals are nothing but objects to be used by people. They also use unscientific circular reasoning and are very dogmatic in their approach to conservation, animal care, and ethics.

    One of My Favorites!
I found this podcast while browsing a while back. Binged all the episodes in about a week! It’s super great to learn about the field of conservation canines. As a dog trainer trying to find my training passions, this podcast has inspired me to chase conservation training for a while! Even when technically heavy, Kayla finds a way to make the information easy to understand!

    Must listen!
I started listening to this podcast before I adopted my now 9 month old beagle puppy Tiana. I love how in depth Kayla goes about why some methods work (or don’t work) and introduced me to the humane hierarchy of dog training, which has been tremendously helpful to share with my rescue on positive reinforcement training versus balanced methods. She educates without being preachy. Love the myth busters! ! Keep up the phenomenal work you do!
  • scedastic
    Great listen
Format and conversational style is fantastic. Not a trainer but finding myself fascinated even with the more “in the weeds” discussions. Hearing the training stories and case studies has also helped out with putting my recent rescue dog’s experience into perspective. Keep up the shelter dog discussions and stories. Also, the research references! Yay

    Great info!
I’m pretty picky about podcasts, both with their content and their audio quality. Canine Conversations does such a great job with both of those! Really informative episodes, some great interviews, and lots of tips and tricks that I’ve put into practice with my two dogs. I also appreciate how frequently episodes are released! I love to listen on our daily decompression walks

Great way to get into dog training!
I wanted more information on dog training for my reactive dog, but this podcast has provided so so so much more. I love the scientific-minded approach to dog behavior, and the honesty about the frustrations and mistakes you can make while training! It’s a really great resource for learning about cruelty-free training, and I wish I had found it sooner. As someone who has (very regrettably) used punishment based training in the past, this podcast has really helped me see how unnecessary and unhelpful it is. These women are so smart, educated, kind-hearted and have such cute senses of humor, and I highly recommend this podcast to all dog owners.

Great podcast! As someone who trains guide dogs, I like the approach of always putting animal welfare first. And the result of that will be a better working dog.
  • Brenda Medina-Maldonado
    Top notch
I absolutely love this podcast. I really wish I had understood more about animal behavior before I adopted my dog about 2 years ago. Unfortunately, I think like most of us, I had to weed thorough some not so great information that is available online before I landed on this gem. This podcast has taught me so much about patience, understanding, loving, and training my dog (and myself as my dog’s companion for that matter). A lot of what you learn can be applied to your human relationships as well(we’re also animals after all!) Thank you for the hard work you do in putting out these learning tools, you all are the best!

    2021 Review (Maybe the 1st???)
This is a great podcast! Kayla and Ursa are awesome. My 8 month old australian cattle dog agrees as well. They provide honest but evidence-based information that has helped me foster a better relationship with my dog. I typically refresh my podcast feed in anticipation for their next episode. Keep up the great work!

    Great show!
I love this informative podcast and look forward to new episodes each week!

    Great information
I consider myself a pretty attentive and experienced dog owner, but I’ve picked up so much great information from this podcast. The style is really engaging. Also, one of my pet peeves is when podcasts have terrible audio quality. Even with great content it makes them hard to listen to. Canine Conversations sounds professionally produced.

    Excellent Info on Dog Behavior
Kayla is so incredibly knowledgeable about dog training and dog behavior and has helped me work with my own pups. Canine Conversations podcasts are always entertaining and informative. I can’t recommend listening enough if you are at all interested in dogs (because come on, who isn’t?!)!
  • Embarassingly Parallel
Great dog behavior experts, great podcast
Me and my dog K had the opportunity to work with Marissa a while back. She blew me away with how well she could pick up on the cues my dog was giving off (but which I was too dense to notice!). More importantly, I was impressed by how well she could explain what was going on inside my dog’s head. I’m still a little dense when it comes to interpreting what my dog’s trying to say to me, but I’m getting a little better with time - which is why I was excited to find this podcast. I’m just starting out, but so far I like it a lot. Having a difficult dog can carry a lot of guilt and uncertainty, “should I have done things differently? Is this my fault?” The experts on this podcast show empathy not only for dogs, but also for dog owners. They want you to succeed, and that’s what you need to hear. There’s a TON of dog training material, and it’s intimidating to dig through, but this podcast presents rock solid positive dog training methods with a practical, “how can we make this work in the real world?” approach.

    Love This!
Just found you (from the K9 of mine website which I love as well!) enjoying the podcast a ton! I love positive training tips and the avoidance of choke/prong/shock collars. Looking forward to bringing our new 4 legged family member home in a couple short months. I’ve been a fur mom before but it’s been a few years and I’ve enjoyed brushing up and learning some new tips. Thanks!!

For dog owners, not just for dog trainers!
A lot of super useful information on this podcast about dog behavior that any layperson can understand. Super in-depth and interesting information!

Reliable information from experienced and compassionate experts
All three partners of this podcast has years of working with animals, especialy dogs. They are upto date in modern science based dog training and continue to persue force free humane way of training and connecting with dogs. This is an amazing resource for anyone with dogs. All three of them, really live up to their tag line "positively obessessed with dog behavior" and know a lot about it. Their conversations are relatable and come from a compassionate loving place of helping dogs and their humans.

    Amazing podcast!
As a dog lover & possibly aspiring dog trainer, I’m so glad to have discovered this podcast. It’s a perfect blend of tips for general dog owners and info for those with a professional interest in the field. I’ve listened to podcasts that are targeted towards pet owners only, which are great, but I like that Canine Conversations goes a little more into the theory behind why & how their training techniques work. And also love that they’re all proponents of fear free, positive training.
  • Cindyloohoo1240
    Love this group!
I absolutely love this podcast. I would highly recommend it to anyone with animals. I grew up with dogs and cats and horses all my life and this has great information for learning new training ideas and brushing up on old ones!

Just found you lovely ladies! So much great information and my reading and research list just got longer!
  • The best positive dog training
The best positive dog training podcast!
I'm a bit of a nerd and obsessive about my dog, so I read and listen to A LOT of dog related stuff. I probably subscribe to at least 5 dog training/behavior podcasts and this is BY FAR my favorite. These women are intelligent, thoughtful, and exprienced I would highly recommend giving them a listen. Also as a side note, be careful with dog training podcasts there are a lot that suggest aversive/non-science based methods please stay away from these. Make sure you do your research before you start learning/taking advice!

    Such great info
Great info and good-quality audio. I’ve found helpful advice and actionable tips in each episode. Thank you, and I can’t wait for new episodes!
