MJF 46The Aeneid 1/9Perfect timing Just started reading the Aeneid after your series on the Odyssey

CheckpointCSomething can be learned here.Intellectual level is at the level you can learn from. The pace and delivery makes the podcast end too soon. The recommendations for reading are meaningful. This is not your pop podcast. It is good enough that you can, if you try, to lean something that is good for you and those around you.

brewdog66“How to Learn Old English”Great episode! Colin Gorie is a wonderful teacher - knows his stuff and is very patient. I have worked through all of ALI’s Old English (OE) under Colin’s instruction from “Intro to OE I” through the intermediate courses and just completed “Beowulf I”. “Oswald Bera” (Intro I and II) is the best! ALI’s tuition is reasonably priced; the pace at which Colin proceeds is also reasonable - challenging but not impossible, as is anything worth learning. Strongly recommended!

EdwardcrxGreat PodcastSpencer does an awesome job. Wish I had known about his podcast years ago! Do yourself a favor and listen.

Flo N EddieOutstanding!A fascinating way to learn (or re-learn!) about the key ideas, literature, and people that shaped the development of the West. Unlike current events podcasts, even the earliest ones are evergreen.

Longing for truthEveryone should listen to this podcastTotally original. There is nothing else like it. All young people should listen to this podcast.

The_TardigradeIntelligent and EngagingSpencer provides great discussions of philosophy and the classics. With podcasts, it really is more about the man behind the episode than the topic of the episode- even if philosophy ain’t your thing, check this podcast out. You’re guaranteed to learn something about the classics and start thinking a little deeper.

Musikfool81Truth and BeautyWhat a treasure this show is. If you have any love of literature this is for you. The host is a pleasure to listen to and very thoughtful as he leads you through each topic.

bearman.derekFan-freaking-tasticSpencer’s work was introduced to my life by his father Andrew Klavan (no relation), but being swamped by three daily podcasts a day plus copious amounts of additional content throughout each week, I didn’t take the time to consider adding yet another podcast to my list of regulars. Then I watched Jordan Peterson’s Foundations of the West, and Spencer’s contribution was captivating. It ignited within me a burning desire to understand more about truly classic literature and the stories that marry Jerusalem to Athens and built the West. Young Heretics is now my number one go-to show that I keep on autoplay throughout every spare moment of the day (lots of catching up to do from day one!). I often finding myself having to postpone The Daily Wire shows for weeks at a time because I’m so enraptured in Young Heretics. I’m learning so much from this top-tier show. Thank you, Spencer, for sharing your depth and breadth of knowledge and wisdom, and for making the classics accessible enough for a dullard like me to understand and fall in love with them and the ideas that shape the West.

AmdyfynGrand TheftCall me a dinosaur but I’ve ZERO interest in such a movie. Give me anything historical (hopefully accurate) or classic fiction, such as Homer. As my generation had Greek mythology as a staple in our curriculum.

HitchkennedyA Brilliant & Joyous Exploration of the Letters…and why it matters. Like that eccentric and mischievous professor you studied under. He’s back. Learned, witty, wise, demanding. Be grateful for this mind at work. Take your place and begin.

Bill IbboSo glad you are backEnjoyed the first return program on virtue. I do believe a revelation of morality as you have in the Torah is essential to prevent poor reason from leading you astray. Hazony's book Conservatism Rediscovered lays this out well. Maybe that can be a few weeks of pods down the road. I have enjoyed the Daily Wire content as well.

SharonArtCThe Faustian BargainThank you Spencer! This episode is a keeper and so full of wisdom. Growing up, I often woke up on Saturday mornings to my dad playing the opera “Faust” on our fabulous stereo system. I understood it to be a tragic love story, and that if one sells his soul to the devil, the outcome is never good. You have explained that it is giving up free will to live life in a material world of cause and effect. Worldly power is a trap! Yeshua Messiah also said if you live only by the rules, you will die by the rules, and that the devil is the ruler of this (deceitful) world. We keep our freedom by loving a good God, our neighbors & enemies, and ourselves. Then we truly see we are surrounded by beauty.

Merlin SwangoliHope for humanity.Keep an eye on this guy. He’s part of the Hope for the future of civilization. Spencer is on a mission to save the West (and the soul of humanity) with the wisdom of classical (and modern) thought and literature. And no one could do it with more eloquence, humor, compassion, intelligence, and scholarship. Listen and join him!

cricket1904Thank You!What a joy to listen to Spencer’s melodious voice, guiding me through the magnificent classics! How can we give anything less than a 5 star review for a taste of the education in classics that so many of us wished for but never received. Thank you! Keep up the very much needed work.

Chill Out Dog GuyA Remedy for Hard Hearts and Soft HeadsKlavan achieves the high aim of resolving the issue at the heart of C.S. Lewis’ observation that “a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head.” The podcast is self described as “the classical education didn’t know you were missing”. Five minutes into any episode and you’ll fully agree. Listen. Subscribe. Enjoy.

Garrett DelgadoInformative History and Etymology LessonsSpencer does a phenomenal job articulating the etymologies behind words used in historic texts. The podcast is clever and informative!
-
youngburtThe Beacons Are Lit!!Stimulating and pertinent discussions/material, an oasis of refreshing/life sustaining insight in a barren desert of unorginality and resentment, covering the Classics (our Inheritance) and the Everlong value in the thoughts/accounts/and works of art from Wise figures we would do well to heed and promote. Thanks Dr Spence for all you’ve compiled for and introduced to the heretically minded, I was feeling a bit outnumbered and drowned out but alas (by way of Louise Perry’s podcast) I have been reminded that the beacons are indeed lit and the time is nigh upon us to hold fast to beauty, truth, justice, goodness, and the stuff that matters! This guy should write a book or two.

Uriah82This show is a gemSo glad I stumbled onto your show. At 42 and newly returned to faith, the philosophy and breakdown of great western literature (reading is my passion) have been such a delight to participate in. I feel like I am learning and becoming a deeper and more well rounded thinker as I delve through these episodes. Thank you !
-
gigandgeogigI am back. I can hear you now. I actually used your advice in episode 171 fifty years ago. It worked and brought me back to church.
-
gpajakeGood as it getsThis is the "Hillsdale College MA in Philosophy with a minor in Theology" of podcasts. OK, that's a bit long, but you get the idea. Also, giving away my age, I had no idea that you were the grandson of Gene Klavan. Wow! That brings me back to my 6 transistor radio days. Just great.

DrliamxPhenomenal PodcastSpencer offers an excellent view into the western culture and stimulating pilgrimage through great western thought.?

Dylman09Love the show, but…I absolutely love the podcast and have been listening since the first episode. With that being said Spencer, you need to upgrade your microphone!

Joseph WeigelFood for the SoulSaving the West begins with the things you can do in the here and now. Listening and learning from this show is a great place to start. - Men with Chests

StameexEnjoyed but….I listened to the episode about the history of thanksgiving and appreciated to learn true historical facts considering we live in a culture who wants to cancel thanksgiving. I listened to the episode in its entirety and enjoyed it all until the very end when you answered someone’s question. This person was seeking first steps towards a knowledge in Christianity and you directed them to look up the Roman Catholic teachings. As someone who was born and raised Roman Catholic and then converted to Christianity, I was saddened to hear you direct them in this path because I believe it to be false teachings.

tjberrymanI’m an instant fan of thisGreat voice, very approachable exploration of ancient wisdom.

Zombie HQKind of a great showAwesome content and much needed, but I am often unable to listen due to Spencer saying “kind of” every 30 seconds, and I am not exaggerating. It is beyond distracting and “kind of” maddening. This usage, along with uptalking and vocal fry are part of the feminized, wish-washy, mealy mouthed influence of the left, which has unfortunately “kind of” infected this otherwise fine gentleman. The basics of public speaking and presentation dictate that any verbal tics, repetitive usage, or lingo are a no go. Please “kind of” fix this or I may never get the education that I never received.
-
dkj001Only thing I like better…Is Klavan’s Writing. All his articles at the Claremont Review of Books and the American Mind are engaging and informative. I haven’t read How to Save The West yet, but I have no doubt it is going to be great!
-
G. RooticusHidden GemOne of my favorite podcasts. I’m always amazed by the ability Spencer has to understand and articulate the great works of the west in a way that is so practical and appropriate to our current time. If you are into philosophy, this is quite a download. Not to mention, his voice is the best in the game!

613BeenieThe ClassicsHeartfelt and intelligent podcast. I was an ardent listener in the past and pleased that I will be again. This is the only podcast that I rewind time and time again during the episode to be sure I glean as much as there is to learn.

RitzBrittBRAVO!!!!This is THE BEST podcast I have ever listened to. It delves into the past, to glean the greatest ideas (tried and true), that have filtered down to create Western civilization. Your life will become exponentially better, as you understand and apply these philosophies, principles, and virtues into your life. Bravo Spencer Klavan!
-
80's AprilSo glad it’s back!I love learning with Spencer & I’m so happy that it’s back. The only issue I have is that the volume is always recorded very low & makes it impossible to listen while multitasking.
-
keit91GreatAmazing, intelligent, informative, beautiful... so, so good, excellent podcast. Love it! Glad to have it back in my life, thank you Mr Klavan

HuskyJaySpencer Klavan is the hero we needOnce finding this series, I made it a point to go back to the first episode and listen diligently in order. I quickly realized I had an unspoken yearning for there to be some resource for backfilling huge gaps in my own education. Spencer’s choice of subject matter casts a wide net, but does a great job of exposing one to the Western Canon and how to partake in the Great Conversion. Don’t just listen, learn and USE the information to broaden your horizons and gain a fresh insight into the world and what can be done about our current societal struggles. Drawing on wisdom of the ages, Spencer is a perfect conduit for making this epic volume of information understandable and energizing! You won’t regret any time spent here walking the road of the Ancients.
