AS7580Nick CarparelliStill think this is the best CFB pod out there but the most recent epi with Carparelli was bad. Admittedly I did not get through it because I kept waiting for you guys to push back on some of his talking points and when that didn’t happen, I stopped listening. He brought up “what about the character of the players who sit out bowls?” I would ask, if a player gets injured during a bowl game, will an NFL team draft that player in the same spot/sign them to the same $ as an UDFA because their “character” makes up for their torn ACL? Really strong “I walked 8 miles, uphill both ways, in the snow to get to school” vibes from Carparelli on that take. He also stated that “bowls don’t have extra money to pay schools” while also claiming it’s not about the money for the schools…First, bowls have plenty of money, they just pay it out to administrators and PR people, like himself. Who deserves to get paid, the players who risk serious injury and whose participation dictates the quality of the product, or some guy in a funny-colored blazers, whose absence would have no discernible effect on the quality of the game? And I can’t imagine that it’s not about the money for the schools when some teams are playing the day after Christmas and on NYD, instead of being with their families. Call me crazy, but even guys who love the game would probably prefer to play on a different date. Lastly, his complaint that the bowl deals were struck prior to NIL and that the current environment isn’t “what bowls signed up for”…are you kidding me? He’s complaining about no longer being able to take advantage of student-athletes the way they could in the good ol’ days? Coming from a bowl executive, this is laughable, as bowls have become largely obsolete, leeches on the system. I could be persuaded to change my mind on this if someone could please point out one benefit bowls supply to CFB that the networks and schools can’t already provide for themselves. A stadium to play in? When you have bowls in Birmingham and Detroit, and schools already invest heavily in their own stadiums, that’s not it. TV exposure? Conferences already have that with their network deals. The one thing bowls used to have- notoriety, is quickly eroding as we get things like “the Sugar Bowl presented by KFC” or worse “the Beef O’Brady’s bowl”, which used to be something else that wasn’t sponsored but was so forgettable, no one remembers what it was originally called. Really would have liked some more pushback from Alex and Richard in this guys boiler plate talking points.

bfleckiiiConstructive adviceIn my effort to give a fair review, I’m going to give credit where credit is due but offer what many I talk to about the pod would greatly appreciate going forward. The team does a great job going both deep and wide in the right places of the college football landscape. From promoting the sport, how the schedule is progressing, team and player analysis, as well as where the sport is going. Great job. That said, fans of college football engage with in the sport because they want to be entertained. It’s is also one of the best example of a team sport and is often used as an escape from a fallen world. Counter to their charge as sports journalists, too many times SZD interjects personal diatribes about politics that even if they were brought up in relation to a current event in the sport (often their comments are not), at least strive to present the other side of the political spectrum as the objective journalists you are suppose to represent. We get it. Richard, Godfrey and Alex, you align yourself with the political left. In no way should those leanings show up in providing a fun, entertaining and in the fandom we all participate in. We tune in to detract ourselves from the same political noise of the world you now are exacerbating. One of the reasons we love sport and college football is that it is a uniting force. I hope your contributions to the sport retain that focus as well. My hope is that you’ll be more measured in your approach.

B3333bCreative and informativeI like how deep the split zone duo crew gets into subjects that other pods seem to skip over. Well educated hosts and well thought out pod.

Seattle UGA DawgBest CFB PodThis is the best college football podcast right now. Worth a listen.
-
Chris c dWorst showWorst college football podcast out there. Godfrey is insufferable, Richard is great, and Alex is fine.

ccdavidsongodfrey has ruined this showthis use to be a great show but godfrey has become insufferable. he rarely if ever makes good points, his predications never come true but he does everything he can to spin the truth to make it look like he did. he is consistently condescending to his two cohost, not sure if it’s because he is jealous that they are already so much better than him at a young age or he’s just actually a miserable person. he got embarrassed by hugh freeze of all people like come on man don’t pretend to know what you’re talking about and let hugh freeze get one over on you. i use to subscribe to the patreon and substack but there was far too much godfrey focused content and not worth the money. i hope godfrey decides to retire soon and this show can become enjoyable again. edit: had to unfollow the free show too now. it’s unbearable. alex and richard need to be freed from this miserable human being holding them down. he somehow thinks he knows scheme better than nick saban? go back to wrestling and leave this sport alone old man.

buckeye patNot a victimless cheating infractionGenerally good discussion but the comment that UM’s cheating is victimless is wrong. Might not have victims with physical harm. But this cheating impacted competition. How about those betting on games losing money because the cheating impacted scores and spreads. How about the Buckeye players losing a rivalry game and a chance at Big Ten Championship and playoffs 2 years - after all of their hard work. Not reaching their goals and not knowing if it was because they didn’t do enough or because the opponent had their signs. How did it impact players and coaches UM faced. Were some players not drafted because they looked ineffective in a big game or some coaches fired? Did CJ Stroud lose the Heisman and and was he not drafted number 1 because he couldn’t win the big game. Hard to prove that the cheating impacted the outcome of the games but no one can prove that it didn’t either. And why did they do it if it didn’t make a difference. Their win loss record sure did improve once they started cheating. Just bothers me when I hear media make that statement and takes the cheating lightly - most of whom are former Michigan grads and players.

Car11113What a show! The difference in all three hosts and how they feel about the sport is what makes this show great.
-
Don'tWorryBout itYou guys have become completely insufferableBut I appreciate you though

TSLkid1Alex has good politicsI’m just in it for whenever he inserts them into the show. Don’t know much about cfb, just watch enough to know it’s dubs down forever.

Riverside IsiGreat showThanks to having bodily autonomy I am able to listen to this great show. I was a subscriber to the Patreon (now Substack) for a while and it is amazing content as well (when I have more money I’ll resubscribe). Y’all should listen to it

DeputaySlow fade in qualityThis happens to any podcast once it gets popular: the hosts think they themselves are the reason people listen, not the focus of said podcast. It’s a subtle thing, but oh so noticeable. The majority of each episode is now Richard taking 4 sentences to what could be said in 1, Steven just hating life (while attempting to “laugh it off” when called out) and Alex, when allowed, attempting to make what’s left a show. Pod started strong, but oh well...thanks for the memories! Fun while it lasted

Brett42891TerribleYes they cover the whole sport , which I appreciate. But half the podcast is just ragging on coaches and programs. It gets old really fast. They are way too snarky and annoying. And it’s a shame because they know their stuff, but for some reason feel the need to constantly rag on Cristobal , Riley , and a whole host of coaches and programs. Probably because they are unhappy with their own lives. Poor guys.

Doug412ojbShameIn the face of the biggest college football scandal in years, RJ killed his objectivity for some lame Michigan leaks that Thamel rejected. Instead of hustling like Woodward and Bernstein, RJ would be the guy carrying water for the Nixon administration amidst watergate to get some more stories.
-
NHLhockmanRuined a once great PodThis used to be an awesome pod until one of the hosts sold his soul for incredibly weak Michigan scoops/leaks. Super disappointing and kinda kills the spirit of this pod.
-
StephenislameA college football podcast for normal peopleIt’s so hard to find people that talk about football without getting all dude-bro about it. It’s even harder to find that for college football. These guys are making the most thoughtful, well rounded, and insightful content on this sport. Rather than telling you what you see in games, they tell you why it’s happening. College football is weird and these guys are some of only a few to really embrace that.
-
Ian St. IanPretty Pretty GoodGood analysis and commentary. The fact that Michigan and Harbaugh seem to occupy 90% of Godfrey’s head space is weird but also an entertaining bonus.
-
grittyshakerTried and failedI tried to listen to this show but I couldn’t get through an episode. They try to be funny and sarcastic but it’s just more annoying than anything and it’s kinda all over the place. I make an effort to give all these different college football podcasts a listen to but unfortunately this one just fell flat. I highly recommend The Joel Klatt Show and Late Kick w/ Josh Pate. I find them to be more knowledgeable and much more enjoyable to listen to so I’m gonna stick with them.
-
arbysauceMore live shows!Solid analysis and coverage of college football year round, and Dead Letters are the best part of the off season. We demand more live shows and informal bowl watching parties or else we will leave terrible Yelp! reviews damnit!

DonDerbyI like to shout at cloudsSo I listen to Godfrey. He’s my spirit animal and he hates my school….. Speaking of school have you heard what schools are next up on Homefield Apparel? This was “not” written by Alex
-
GtG42I triedI didn't last an episode. Not only am I "unfollowing" this podcasts, I'm also unfollowing the presenters I followed on Twitter. Just complaining about how other sports/leagues can't compare to the NFL or college football & that college football can't compete with NFL. HELLO: I quit NFL years ago & increased my CFB consumption because I want disparity & rooting for the underdog.

GonzoNation1387Excellent Show!Especially the stats

ApcarrickBest CFB Podcast on the PlanetAlways excited for new episodes both in and out of the season
-
BennyBen123Best Sports Podcast out thereCan’t call this a CFB podcast because a) the Fullcast is the only college football podcast and b) it’s so much more than that. Steven, Richard, and Alex work hard to provide a bigger picture of the sport and provide context that isn’t available anywhere else. Their “eating the whole hog” is refreshing as a lot of other podcasts only focus on the big names of the times, let alone the G5 or FCS. I can’t recommend being a patron enough either. The list of podcasts I’d pay to listen to is short, but this is definitely at the top.
-
SmushhehIf you love CFB, you will love SZDThe most complete college football podcast there is. Every week during the season, Richard, Alex, and Stephen cover the whole of the sport, not just the big names, in both a preview and a rundown format. The off-season also offers a peek behind the curtains of certain aspects of CFB, whether it’s narrative from the hosts or interviews with coaches or other insiders. Godfrey still hates my team.
-
J3T3LAn essential CFB podcastAlex, Richard and Godfrey combine the best aspects of CFB analysis and punditry while eating the whole hog of college football each week. A must listen if you’re a college football fan of any team b

WLBATLOne of my Favorite PodsI started listening to the free show last year and recently joined the Patreon. Great insights and discussion.
-
McNutt for HeismanI listen for Stephen & RichardI’ll celebrate when they lose Alex.
-
Roc StudleeWhy Godfrey??I was listening to an episode where Godfrey was absolutely going off on Freeze and I laughed so hard I got into a fender bender. Signed up for the Patreon the next day. Over thanksgiving I was listening to an episode where Godfrey was again going off on Freeze and I got pulled over for speeding. I give you three takeaways from my experience: this (and their patreon)is the best college football podcast by far, Hugh freeze is junk, and Godfrey not only hates your team, he hates my driving.
-
Tim8888Almost unlistenableThese guys talk over each other and interrupt each other more than any other “professional “ podcasters I’ve ever heard. They are all in such a hurry to one up the other hosts with their superior inside knowledge that they never actually get to a point. Waste of time
-
QAB 87Good podcast.Listen to this podcast if you want to understand college football on and off the field. I listen to a lot of cfb podcasts and this one is the best.

MFE PodsThe Best There IsIf you’re a fan of the whole sport, this needs to be your go-to show. They’ll discuss the major-conference topics, but also find time to give the smaller schools their due. Some game recaps, some scheme talk, some rivalry-history review, some program-from-30,000-feet discussion, some examination of the larger factors affecting the sport…whatever you love college football, Split Zone Duo hits it.
-
just ket me post a reviewBest college football podcastThree guys who actually talk honestly about college football and don’t just parrot lazy media narratives.
-
PDXphil12BoiseStatetoPortlandStateSome of the best honest college football talk you’ll hear anywhere, without the pearl clutching.
-
pacolutzGreat Pod, Mouth Sounds HurtLove the pod, subscribe to the patreon and look forward to every episode. Only thing I’d knock it for is that Alex eats the mic on a lot of episodes and Godfrey’s dramatic deep breathes before speaking can irk me. Still listen and love it, but have to skip ahead when I can’t handle the mouth sounds.
-
rmonk81Best College Football Podcast, Full StopThis guys are great. No boring national narratives. They get into the details and talk big schools and small schools. Richard knows scheme and Godfrey knows the ins and outs of the coaching carousel. Alex somehow keeps it on all the rails.
-
LCplJDLeatherneckVerballerBest CFB show period…
