    Favorite podcast
This is one of my favorite podcasts, and is my #1 favorite in the energy world (which is my job too). I’ll listen to it on a long run, and find that the education I got was better than the exercise.

Best climate and energy pod out there
This is the most informative pod on energy and climate policy and tech out there. Also great political commentary.

    I LOVE this podcast!
Thinking about climate change can lead one to despair. There is so much bad news about what we’re not doing. Volts is the opposite. There is so much that we can do, that we are doing. The future could be amazing. David Roberts is terrific and I am grateful for this podcast

    Dedicated listener
Essential listening for anyone interested in sustainability, urban planning, or common sense. I wish I had the ability to clearly break down and communicate great ideas on complicated issues. Been a long time subscriber and would highly recommend.

    Good but don’t giggle
David is very well informed and an excellent interviewer. However, his editorial comments are NOT welcome. I would rate this 5 stars except for his inserted commentary. His editorial giggle is especially aggravating. David needs to control that giggle.

    Favorite!
Volts is one of my favorite podcasts of all time. I am an unabashed treehugger and love all of the excellent information in the podcast. It is easy to get worried and depressed about climate change, but Volts lifts my spirits when I’m listening to someone who is doing something innovative in the field. David is very knowledgeable and asks excellent questions of his guests. Also, he has a great voice for a podcast (not all podcast hosts do!).

    Energy Professional Recommended
I’ve been working in clean energy over a decade now. When someone asks what I read or listen to, I include David Roberts in the shortlist. I encourage you to listen, and if you get value from the podcast. support his work by becoming a paid subscriber.

Podcast of Record for the Energy Transition
Review title speaks for itself. Volts really is (for me anyway!) the podcast of record covering the vast socioeconomic breadth of the energy transition. Really cool and I’m happy to support!

    Inspiring and forward thinking
Volts always has interesting guests who are at epicenter of the energy transition. Host David Roberts expertly interviews these leaders in industry, policy, and activism who are blazing the trail for a better future.

    Curb your enthusiasm.
Timely podcast on important topics rendered almost unlistenable by host David Robert’s giggling uncontrollably at anything a guest says, funny or not.

Always recommending this pod to others
As a climate activist I’m always getting asked specific questions about electrification, state legislation, “what should I do”, etc. I try and answer the specific question but always find myself saying “if you want to know more there’s a specific pod episode that addresses this on Volts. Just yesterday while attending a climate action summit I was chatting with a speaker and the issue of performance based utilities came up and we both said Volts at the same time! Love this pod!

    I love this podcast
I learn so much every time I listen. Many of ideas are things that you can push. I want to get our city now to allow in the Ev charging network that he recently discussed on his show. This should not be labeled politics.

    Gives Me Hope
What I love about Volts is that it showcases people with good ideas that are doing something! Apple has this listed under politics. That’s not really the main thrust. Instead the focus is on positive things that are being done to take on the challenge of climate change. Often when I see a topic that wouldn’t interest me, I find myself drawn in and engaged once I start listening. And it’s great for energy nerds… either current or prospective.

Argh. So much that is good, but…
I love the content and I learn a lot. The host though needs to learn how to keep his superiority complex to himself. The all-knowing laugh at anything remotely non-progressive makes it almost impossible to listen. This latest episode on purple state manufacturing could have been so interesting. Instead he treated it as a chance to snicker at how dumb those little red people are. It’s become intolerable. Ashame. I really appreciate the guests and the learnings.

Volts is THE podcast for energy matters
David Roberts is ahead of other sources when it comes to all things energy. He gets expert guests on to discuss the latest energy technologies and trends. I’ve learned much from his Volts podcast that I never would have known from standard journalists.

    Volts
This is a fascinating and hopeful podcast while remaining hard headed and realistic. I am more likely to tell friends about things I heard on Volts than almost anything else I listen to.
  • handshake
The most hopeful show on climate
Every episode leaves me thinking about dropping what I’m doing and joining the guest’s mission. Unabashedly technical, hopeful with zero Pollyanna, realistic and informed without being bleak. I never miss an episode of Volts.
  • HGPILOT
    Politically biased, but good info
He does a good job of sticking to the topic but his political bias comes out in some form in every episode - so easy to keep this out of the weeds but sometimes he just can’t resist

    Focusing on the helpers
It’s easy to be overwhelmed by our situation with climate change — but overwhelm feels terrible and tends to be paralyzing just when we need action. Volts is the perfect antedote to that overwhelm and paralysis. David Roberts finds the people who are pushing us forward on solving this problem and gives us a clear-eyed view of what they’re accomplishing along with the challenges they’re facing. It’s both highly educational and highly motivating.

    Clean energy, explained
David Roberts has incredible curiosity about all things energy and a keen intellect in analyzing new ideas from his backgrounds in philosophy and journalism. If you want to hear everything from policy to financing to grid operation to novel forms of clean energy explained in layman’s terms with humor and wit, this is the podcast for you.

    Consistently great guests
I keep coming back to this podcast (I’m a subscriber) because the content is always on point and the guests are amazing. The questions from the host are incisive and the discussion is always engaging. Can’t rate this highly enough.

    Best Energy Podcast
Can there really be a “best” energy podcast? I’m not sure, but this is consistently a great listen, informative, with new content. I always learn something, and sometimes I learn a lot! Keep it up Dr. Volts!
  • Evelin858
    Highly educational
As a layperson who is trying to learn as much as possible about our energy transition, Volts is the best resource, hands down. Each pod is highly informative, with top guests and great discussions. I’m a retired Accountant and this is my favorite podcast.

You can’t afford not to listen
Anyone working to abate Global Heating needs to listen to Volts to keep up with the good news, the bad news and the often ugly news. Warning the text version does contain occasional sappy dog photos.
  • Voltz is Essential Listening!
Voltz makes me better at my job!
As someone working in technology electrification I have found myself listening and re listening to old podcasts. This is an incredible resource to all but especially to those caught in the rapidly changing technology, policy and science world of climate, zero emissions tech etc. thank you!!

    Best Podcast Ever
Volts is absolutely essential listening for me. Volts provides me with a connection to reality and hope for the future. I have become a Volts evangelist, basically everyone I meet gets the “have you heard of the Volts podcast?” speech.

The best energy podcast there is.
I have learned so much about energy production and transmission from this podcast. Left or Right, you should listen. Investors should listen.
  • LisaK91
    My favorite podcast
All the right questions to people who are actually making progress saving the climate and shifting to cool green tech.
  • Ignatius R.
And Sotomayor is not a hack?
In the podcast on the Chevron doctrine, the host says all the Trump SCOTUS appointees are partisan hacks. After Sotomayor’s declarations about the number of children dying of covid, to solely criticize Republican Justices as partisan hacks shows that the host is himself a partisan hack. This podcast is not to be taken seriously.

Brings me joy in a world literally on fire!
Deep dives into policy and tech solutions for the biggest challenge facing our world. David Roberts delivers smart, timely, astute interviews with entrepreneurs, policy wonks and elected officials to help us understand both challenges and possible solutions without being a cheerleader or a nihilist. His wry humor is the spoonful of sugar needed to face this daunting topic. I listened to the entire back catalogue (transmission lines - who knew?!) and look forward to every new episode.

The best energy podcast there is!
Can’t recommend it enough. A must-listen for anyone interested in energy and decarbonization.

    Rich with depth and nuance
I’m a life-long energy and energy-tech geek, but new fan of Volts. Like a great chocolate mousse compared to cake from a box, episodes are rich with flavorful depth and nuance and have quickly become one of my top favs. Roberts’ own clearly long-acquired deep knowledge allows him to ask serious and challenging questions of a wide array of guests. Goes WAY beyond superficial concepts and sound bites of ordinary channels. Podcast is really tailored to accumulating knowledge, so Roberts’ doesn’t waste much time going back to basics. Might be at times a little heavy on the depth for energy newbies, but think listeners can catch up fast. Hands down best thing I’ve found so far to track emerging insights related to the still-emerging energy transition.

    Just an absolutely excellent resource
I have been a subscriber since day 1. As a climate / climate-tech nerd (and politics junkie), this show hits every sweet spot. David is an excellent explainer, and excellent interviewer, and he seems like just a really nice approachable human (based on our social media interactions 💅). I really can’t recommend this show enough, whether you’re a neophyte or you’re working in policy or tech. It’s just an absolutely solid show. Thanks, David!

    A+++
This is an exceptional podcast: thoughtful, informative, engaging, personable, and even humorous. It’s an invaluable resource for learning about all the good work being done to address the climate crisis. It’s a reminder to remain both clear-eyed and optimistic. And most importantly, it’s a call to action for us all to get and remain engaged in solutions. Thanks Dave!
  • ash_247
Most informative pod on energy out there
I have learned more from this show on energy than anything else. Absolutely a wealth of knowledge! Thank you!
  • soleagui
Valuable insight for the climate community
I look forward to each podcast session, they are informative, positive and extremely well researched, something difficult to find in climate change media.
  • Rocky mt mama
    Edifying and inspiring
Roberts’ enthusiasm for renewable energy technology and incisive questions draw me in to learning about things that I would normally find mind-numbingly boring. I hope Biden and his admin and our congresspeople are listening, too, because a better future is really possible for us all.

Dave is a fantastic source of validated information about the current state of climate science.

One of the best climate and energy podcasts!
Volts is a fantastic climate, energy and political podcast by David Robert’s who’s a brilliant journalist. Interesting topics, thoughtful guests and all well produced.

    Intelligent & engaging
Great show, I’ve been really digging this since discovering it recently. The host has a really warm, smart presence. Also have to say, as a Minnesota resident, I’ve been enjoying all the love this year :)
  • ML 3
    Informative
However the last episode (net zero) seems to speculate that capitalism is the problem and the guest seeks to connect the urgent need to address emissions to other issues that are controversial and possibly undesirable. The best way to address climate change is via capitalism (pricing carbon correctly). It is pretty ignorant to slam market forces when even the communists (China) see them as central to efficiency and innovation.
  • dukesgirl
    Accessible and very interesting
The episode topics often seem wonky, but they almost always wind up being fascinating, and David does a great job making the material accessible to non-specialists. This is among the more relaxing (maybe even hopeful) podcasts I listen to, which is weird to say about a climate and politics podcast
  • MyqRuss
    5 Stars!
Thank you Dave for getting the awareness for environmental protection & conservation, great job & keep it coming!!!
