The Candyman

38

In 1971, five children were given a tour of a chocolate factory in upper Munich. Four left the factory maimed, and one never left at all. The Candyman is a scripted podcast series investigating the harrowing events of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As the hosts and tech search for justice, they are derailed by old characters, new foes, and their own ineptitude. The six-part series is written, produced, and performed by Big Big Big.

    So so SO GOOD.
It’s really a travesty this doesn’t have like over 1k 5star reviews. You don’t know me but trust me, this. Is. Amazing. Whoever the people who gave this a one star are I would never want to hang out w. They probably wear Vicks vapor rub as perfume and make every meal in a microwave. And think jay leno is funny.

    Wildly entertaining and inventive
The show is so refreshing and funny! I finished the show-and I hope there are more productions like this coming soon

Darkly funny mock true crime podcast.
I had a few hours to kill on Sunday, so I blew through all 6 episodes at a sitting. The protagonists are drawn as very particular characters, each with her own distinct voice in the narrative. The production design — sound design in this case — is well-realized. The heightened surrealism mostly lands — there are a few dud jokes but overall the quality is high and consistent. Bottom line: YOU WILL LAUGH.

    Not real
Charlie and the chocolate factory did not happen but poking holes in characters commonly believed to be good is entertaining.

Deeply unsettling work of over a decade of constant research
Part of you will wish you never had to learn the Truth uncovered by this team of master detectives. It was amazing they were able to secure interviews with the likes of Diana “Die” Spencer and Christopher “BWAAAAA!” Nolan, but to my mind the tour de force was the exclusive with Grandma Josephine. It will always haunt my dreams.

    Hilarious
Fabulous podcast. I laughed incredibly hard. If you like random absurdist twists and mockumentaries this is a great cast to listen to!

    Dry, silly, great.
The creativity and comic interplay is fresh and unpredictable. Most sketch comedy begins with an interesting premise. That one idea is then fully pulverized until time runs out. But these woman take a good idea, color it red, toss it into the air, talk about carpeting, catch the idea with their foot, then ignore the premise and jump into the car for lunch. My favorite bits are the belittling of Millie and fast forwarding through syrupy musical numbers.

    Hilarious premise AND execution
Rarely does a podcast make me laugh out loud, but this one has me laughing multiple times per episode. Especially that line in episode 2 about the bean feast. It’s definitely not as straightforward of a satire as I expected from the trailer, but I think that makes it all the funnier because you never know what they’ll throw at you next. This podcast deserves WAY more attention!

    Hilarious
I started listening because the idea is really creative. Like seriously why hasn't anyone thought of this before? I kept listening for the humor. The cast and writers have a great sense of humor that's really kind of brilliant. Like the knock being the drum solo from "In the Air Tonight"...amazing. It's an intelligent brand of humor that's rare and I love it. I hope to hear more from this group in the future 🧇
