    Fantastic
Dara Horn book was groundbreaking & this podcast add to that in relaying these Jewish stories. I hoped there would be more. Definitely recommend this podcast & her book to anyone & everyone.

    Absolutely Awesome!
Dara Horn does a tremendous job in covering this subject. There’s an incredible dark humor and cutting truth to her new podcast and book, “People Love Dead Jews.” Many in the world are shameful, as to whether or not they are willing to confront the truth in their own hearts and thoughts as to how they regard both living and dead Jews. Dara’s approach to confronting this matter is brilliant and gutsy. There are few authors who would let their voice rise to this level in trying to awaken a fading interest in propelling justice and the better part of humanity. I have to wonder what we can expect next from the author!

    Dara is a treasure!
Dara’s scholarship and attention to detail is coupled with her unmatched story-telling talent makes her podcasts not just informative and educational, but engaging and addictive. Not many authors can take their impeccable writing skills and translate those to verbal narration. Dara Horn harnesses these skills for the benefit of all who are willing to listen. I recommend Dara and her podcasts and books to everyone!

    Great and necessary
    Should be required listening

    Too too topical
While waiting for the promised next edition, I’ve been re-listening to the original series smack in the middle of Kanye West’s latest antisemitic raging, which horribly echoes the “Protocols” tropes that Horn reminds us entire empires have embraced time and again. Plus ca change…

    Amazing stories….
As my friend Walter Sobchak says “3000 years of beautiful traditions from Moses to Sandy Kofax”. Dara Horn tells some great tales of amazing real life Jews. If only Dara could have been my Hebrew School teacher, I may have not gotten thrown out of class like I was back in the day. Only have two episodes left and I’m already depressed that those are it for the series.

    Your carnival music is appropriate
You highlight the twisted carnival humor of history . And you are like a fun house mirror but instead of distorting you point out the distortions of polite homogenized history.

    Compelling
One of my favorite podcasts. I love the way she delivers information. She acknowledges the humor inherit in history while giving these stories a context I haven’t heard anyone else do.

    Excellent
Even if you know a lot of Jewish history, you are sure to learn something new when you listen to Adventures with Dead Jews. I also love all of Dara Horn’s books. Highly recommend!

Great content but horrrrrrible choice in music
The carnival music is distracting and not up to the intellectual level of the writing.

    Compelling
Dara Horn knows how to tell a story and she’s clearly done her homework. As the title suggests, many of these episodes tell painful and heartbreaking tales of antisemitism throughout history, but she backs her interpretations with evidence and had me fully engaged from the first show. In addition, if you want more you can go directly to her book, “People Love Dead Jews,” as she tells completely different (and equally compelling) stories there.

    Phenomenal Podcast
I picked up Dara Horn’s book “People Love Dead Jews” and could not put it down. She is brilliant in reassessing how we talk and teach about Jews, anti-Semitism, and the Holocaust. Totally transformed how I thought about all of this. So naturally I wanted more Dara Horn and got it in this fabulously entertaining and interesting Podcast. My only complaint is there are not enough episodes!

    Time traveling Jews
Such a worthwhile podcast. I was familiar with many of the people but the context provided by Dara Horn really fleshes out the history. Love listening

    Wow!
I can’t remember where I heard about this podcast, but I’d love to thank whoever it was I recommend it. Extremely thought-provoking and well told.

    Almost 5 stars but Horn’s voice…
…is like nails on a chalkboard. I’ve long wondered why non-professional podcasters and YouTubers don’t do just enough voice training to ensure that they’re easy to listen to. I enjoyed (if that’s the right word) Horn’s book on people loving dead Jews. It’s long overdue, well written, etc. Have recommended it to others. And I like what she offers here. But when the voices of guests on the show feel like a relief from the harsh tones of the main speaker, it’s a problem. From Horn’s high, almost screechy vocal upper range to her volume, compared to those of her guests, it’s just painful. Absolutely nothing personal about this, just begging for Horn to take a few lessons. Slow it down slightly, relax the throat, etc. You don’t have to yell. We hear you. That’s why we’re tuning in. Passion is great; shouting is not. And have an engineer or experienced amateur equalize the levels. That’s pretty basic, tbh. In case anyone wonders: I’m Jewish from NYC. So were my parents and grandparents. I know all about NYC-area Jewish speech habits. Some of my relatives, etc…. But they never did radio appearances. I also earned an MA in History, have conducted many classes, and have made lots of presentations. You don’t have to be boring or speak with a monotone. God forbid. You don’t have to sound trained. In fact, it’s better if you don’t. But please, file the edges off the voice. You’ll attract and retain more listeners.

    Definitely worth listening
And learning, Dara's examining and re-examining of events past and current.
  • nickaraje
    Smart, engaging, thoughtful
Thank you, Dara Horn, for making this podcast filled with stories about film, history, Yiddish literature, and, remarkably not so devastatingly- dead Jews. Just so incredibly witty and smart and interesting with a basis of humanity and a sprinkle of just the right amount of sarcasm. My favorite!

    Indeed, great
My mom loves Dara Horn so I’ve resisted reading her books. But, I intend to do so now. This podcast taught me a lot, made me want to read more, and made me laugh a lot. You should listen. Also it’s better in order, I found, after first jumping in at random based on which episode title struck me most forcibly.
  • zee1836
    Super well done
As a lover of Jewish history, I was hooked from the first episode. I love Dara’s dry, dark humor - which is completely necessary given some of the topics addressed. Can’t recommend it enough!

    Great podcast
Very informative and enjoyable. Taught me much not only about Jewish history but about history in general.

    Good and Bad
Some really great stories in here, but her comedian schtick can get a little much, like in episode 3. She sounds like a fake hipster trashing the movie because that makes her seem cool.
  • eshneken
    Great content and delivery
Really great history and modern commentary in a really compelling storytelling fashion. I learned quite a few new things listening to this and really enjoyed every episode.

    A MUST listen!
Just finished the 1st episode and looking forward to the entire series.

Quirky, fascinating, historically relevant & well delivered
I honestly can’t say enough good things about this podcast. It should be required listening for all high schoolers in America and certainly for all Jews. If you love history then you’ll love this podcast - it’s about the most intriguing stories you could have never learned in school, but which will frame so many familiar historical events in a whole new light. 5 Stars!

Dara Horn on Jewish Identity & the West
Dara Horn does a great job of unpacking Jewish identity and exploring its rejection and dilution through Western history to the present day.
  • JPeckm
    Totally engaging
Fascinating look into the lives of noteworthy Jews, not in ancient history, who we probably never heard of. I must admit to sometimes using podcasts as a means of falling asleep. That won’t work with Dara Horn’s stories. Her voice and presentation are just too engaging.

    Perfect music is it original?

    Love it!
I love the podcast, but wish it would be called past Jews. Hearing dead Jews over and over gets a bit much. Dara does a great job and I love learning about all the Jews from the past.
  • Al the good nicknames are gone
Wonderful combination of fact and wry humor
Dara Horn presents a lot of interesting information in a manner that is highly enjoyable and consequently reaches people who would not normally be interested in such esoteric subjects. I highly recommend Adventures with Dead Jews.

This podcast is so full of little gems of discovery!
This is my new favorite podcast - equal parts enlightening, entertaining, amusing, and horrifying -- a hard mix to achieve but if anyone can pull it off, it's Dara Horn. The weird thing is her voice is like an excited seventh grader telling you she's just disovered that your teacher used to be a professional boxer or once had a part in a Broadway musical. And you feel like the 7th grader's best friend, going, "Oh wow....REALLY? Tell me more!"

    Perfectly timed
This is THE perfectly-timed podcast for Jews in 2021. It touches on all the elements of Jewish life, history, and antisemitism that are occupying our Jewish zeitgeist. In an era of rising antisemitism, this podcast will make you feel seen and heard as you look to patterns in history to understand the present. It’s fascinating, in-depth, accessible, and funny. You will listen and regret you didn’t start sooner.

    Cringeworthy podcast
I cringed when I heard the podcast about Schindler’s List. I’m outta here!

Not to be missed and thank you Dara Horn
I first heard about Dara Horn from my older brother who suggested People Love Dead Jews. Even as a well read 70 year old Jewish woman I was, as I wrote to her, awestruck. She replied to my letter suggesting this podcast might also be of interest. I have not stopped listening. She is so insightful and reveals so many layers and mis interpretations of Jewish History as it has been depicted. I can’t wait to read her novels as well. A treasure.

    Thank you, Dr. Horn!
Finally, someone is saying out loud what this Jew has been thinking for years but saying it much more eloquently and thoughtfully than the golem-like rage in my head could ever formulate. Dr. Horn’s thesis is always proven correct - that people love dead Jews - every time Israel defends itself. Defenseless, dead Shoah Jews good. Living, fighting, armed Jews bad!

    Cringeworthy
I listened to your podcast about Schindler’s List, and found myself cringing constantly on account of your remarks. Weeks ago, I was trulylooking forward to reading your new book, but after seeing you on YouTube with your former professor Ruth Wisse—and hearing you yap on and on and on (again I cringed)—I suddenly had doubts. This podcast episode has convinced me to pass on your book.

    People should stop murdering Jews
I listened to Dara’s first podcast and immediately bought and read People Love Dead Jews. I, a Jesus-following gentile, have long been staunchly pro-Israel and have spent a lot of time studying Jewish history, learning a little Hebrew, and praying for peace in Jerusalem. I’m well aware that Jewish people are the most persecuted group of people on the planet and are continually (literally and figuratively) in front of the firing squad simply for existing, but this book brought me to an even deeper understanding of the cruelty and hatred these people have endured for millennia. I feel like saying something, but everything I come up with is trite. Thank you, Dara. I’m listening.

    Amazing!
Fascinating insights into how history evolves and the importance of evaluating with fresh perspectives

    It’s about time
Ruth Wisse first opened my eyes to the problem with “Holocaust Education”. Dara Horn does a superb job elucidating the gaslighting that has been going on far too long. And her commentary is both insightful and devastating. Everyone who cares about live Jews should hear this and read Horn’snew book
