I started listening to the podcast the middle of last year and each episode I’ve listened to, I’ve learned something and you have affirmed things I’m already doing. Episodes that stand out are; using evaluations to better understand our learners with Katy Vassar, the importance of scaffolding in decoding and alternatives to double-dosing in dyslexia intervention. Thank you so much for being practical in your approach to helping those with dyslexia and the people who serve and love them. 🩷

I discovered this podcast about a year ago, and as a dyslexia therapist, I get so many practical ideas and helpful insights from all you discuss!

I have been listening since the very first episode and I’d like to say THANK YOU!!!! I learn, laugh, and nod in agreement through each episode. Listening to each episode supports my practice of structured literacy, motivates to be explicit, prescriptive, and diagnostic, and to give each of my students my best effort. You mentioned in this last episode how many of us feel like we out there alone; this is true to my experience and your podcast helps me feel connected and to know that what I am doing is the right approach to helping students with dyslexia become better readers and writers.

Together in Literacy is an invaluable resource for me as a private tutor, and as a parent of students with dyslexia. Emily and Casey’s holistic approach is so refreshing. Their passion for spreading awareness as well as skills and resources to share with students and families makes this podcast my favorite to share and re-visit.

As a current dyslexia interventionist in my school district, I’m so happy, I found this podcast. As they’ve said in one of their episodes, “teaching is a craft”, and the learning never stops for us. At the public school in my area they aren’t allowed to use the “D” word. This is so important. Thanks for sharing all the info. I have a question. I tutor a 7 almost 8 year old boy (his mom won’t share why he struggles). We have been working over a year on learning the alphabet and letter sounds. He can now identify the letters by sound but cannot tell me all their names. We are beginning to blend these sounds together and segmenting words. When we make words he will say ‘hat starts with a /h/ house’ using the letter sound and key word. In my 27 years of working with struggling readers I have never had a child that can’t remember the names of the letters, but we are pushing onward to reading and spelling! I’d love to hear any suggestions you might have. I’ve tried a lot of different approaches so am anxious to see what you might suggest.

Emily Gibbons and Casey Harrison have hit the nail on the head with this podcast. Every episode is relevant whether you're the parent of a dyslexic child or an educator (I am both). Their back-and-forth flow is easy to listen to, and I always come away with an "aha" moment.

I just found your podcast and using it to help educate myself about the science of reading and dyslexia. While I have my masters on reading, dyslexia was not mentioned once nor the science of reading. I also believe especially now that social emotional needs need to be met more effectively through appropriate instruction for all students.

As an specialized instructional facilitator, you podcasts always seem to come in a timely manner. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and resources. I have shared them with teachers, administrators and parents!!

Thank you for bringing up the ideas for sharing how the brain works with learners. Great book suggestions. There is a method in the ESL world for multilingual learners back in the day called CALLA. Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach that was really successful with my English learners in upper elementary grades. Meta cognitive strategies were a big part of that work. Awesome episode.

I am very excited on learning more. My daughter is in the process of being tested for dyslexia. I have tried to teach/help her learn how to read. She is in 6th grade so the social impacts are huge right now. I am ready to help her and can’t wait to learn more.

I have followed these ladies on Facebook and IG for awhile and really appreciate the content they have. As a mom to a dyslexic son I love finding resources based on the science of reading, and they bring so much enthusiasm, encouragement, and support for dyslexic students and their families. I enjoyed hearing Stacy and Emily share what brought them to dyslexic students. These are educators who still maintain tutoring practices. To me that means they are the real deal, walking the walk.
