    Ones own voice
Guy has been around a long time. Knows a lot about the industry. Dude loves the sound of his own voice and can drone on about inconsequential things. Comes across as pseudo-intellectual and self-important; which aren’t great when combined with his frequent myopic takes. Good lord, his reliance on filler words and forced goofiness is pretty cringe.

    Expert show about video games
Jeff knows a lot about video games, the video games business, and is great at explaining things. I look forward to this show every week for entertainment and information.

Unique gaming takes from an industry veteran
Jeff is the only guy who can pull off a solo show and still kill it. Pulling from a lifetime of video game knowledge, his takes on video game news and discourse are unique, informative and open minded. There’s never a boring episode; even the email section is fantastic!

Can't quench my thirst for Gerst
I've been listening to Jeff Gerstmann talk about video games since 2008 and I can't stop and won't stop. You can set your watch to this man. He's been covering the industry since Zak McKraken was a spring chicken, and you can't get veteran insight on video games and the video game industry like this anywhere else. Even if you could, I don't know why you would want to. If you're going to listen to one podcast to find out about energy drinks and all things video games, it should be this one.

    Interesting
It’s very odd to me that many of the podcasters are so disconnected from video games and it’s hard to listen to. The reason Star Wars did bad it because that game was seriously bad. Everyone said it was bad when it came out. It plays bad it’s boring etc. either you ignore that fact or you’re that disconnected. I don’t get it.. :/ it’s sad. I’m 33 growing up listening to these guys get it right for so many years and then having to purposely say what is right for sponsors or something just makes me feel so off. I feel I can’t trust anything on their opinions especially when they go against the majority population. Why was concord bad? Everyone knows but podcasters say because it’s another hero shooter came out at a bad time etc. yeah that’s not it.

Good but I often don’t finish an episode
These things are long and Jeff doing it solo has it’s perks but it can be difficult to listen to sometimes. I also feel like he doesn’t really talk about PLAYING video games very much. That part of the pod feels like it’s about 20 mins and the rest is news/emails. He does not seem interested in getting into the meat of talking about what he thought about a video game but is much more interested in talking about news and the industry. It works enough I suppose but I miss hearing Jeff really dig into a game

    Great guest host
I started listening when Jeff took over guest hosting this show. What a pro. It’s a one man show, and he has so much knowledge in the industry and so much to say that he can easily produce consistently great 3 hour weekly podcasts.

Can't tell who's more Bigoted, Jeff or the people he calls out.
Jeff's podcast used to be something special, last 2 years it's just been in decline. It's definitely noticeable how bad Jeff needs somebody else to bounce things off and call him out on oof opinions and incorrect ideas. Ryan and Brad were always good for this. I've noticed Jeff apparently can't emotionally handle being called "Woke" based on how he reacts to the term, he must get it a lot, it's definitely understandable why people say that with him, it's funny when it people less than half his age. His viewpoints are his and how he feels is how he feels but how he treats and calls out people who may disagree with him just shows he's just as intolerant if not worse than those he talks about. I hope he learns before the road he continues down does him legit damage to his reputation long term as the game industry starts contracting, not everybody is good at their job, especially noticeable in gaming & media & those jobs are going away like every other industry. Majority of people are good people and reasonable people who agree on 9 out of 10 things, people are complicated. The small bit we don't agree on is all gray area that should be discussed as build upon the common ground instead of calling each other out as Jeff always does a few times per episode😂. Instead he wants to be more of the problem and not the solution.

    Big ole ooooof
Listening to Jeff compare the launch of cyberpunk to The Day Before was….either ill informed or purposefully misleading. In general he seems to know VERY little about the scandal with The Day Before but certainly has opinions on your opinion about it.

I have much Respect for Jeff but…
We are about the same age and have a lot in common. I have enjoyed his content and been a fan for many, many years but….Since he’s gone solo I can usually only listen to about the first hour of his pods. That seems to be where the meat is and the rest is just him solo rambling about the industry or whatever and I usually tune out and never finish them. First hour is usually great but he just goes on a bit to long.
  • Ankelbiter01
    Some good, some bad.
Great place for a nuanced discussion about various games from an older, well-established perspective. Starting to get bogged down in talks of cultural or political issues with a condescending attitude towards people who might not hold the same perspectives. “Republicans buy sneakers too.” - Michael Jordan

    Video Gamer
Easily one of the best gaming pods on the block. Fueled by sugar free energy drinks, and Windjammers —- Jeff has the knowledge of multiple gaming websites crammed into one twizted mind. If you want to listen to someone who was there since the beginning of time (gaming) then this is for you (sickos). But for real this podcast is important.

    Lost the charm
Listening to this very negative take on a gaming podcast makes it glaringly obvious why Jeff ended up alone. An old, angry man, speaking nonsense, hooked on energy drinks. A sad state of someone who was once one of the greatest hosts in the gaming space.

    still a threat.
jeff is an old school games journalist and it shows in his passion and knowledge in all things games. most people don’t want to listen to a one person show, but hearing jeff’s unfiltered opinions now that he’s outside of giant bomb is something to behold. definitely someone i look up to and take seriously when it comes to games.

The Dan Le Batard of video game podcasting.
Like if Dan Le Batard and Dan Carlin had a baby and the baby was a Gamer.
  • CB31981
    Intelligent host
The host is somewhat intelligent, with an IQ around 154. The host's area of expertise is mainly The Legend of Zelda. The host is married with two children and lives in California. The host used to have a video game website called "Giant Bomb" which went sour when one of the hosts, Ryan Davis, died, and being purchased by CBS was the death knell of its independence. The host's favorite authors are William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, and Jack Vance.

    Too much dead air
Put this thing on 2x speed and it still feels like there are long gaps. Have to check if the podcast is paused constantly.

    Ashes of an Icon
Gerstmann used to be silly and fun on top of his realist (sometimes cynical) view of the world. The most memorable part of this pod so far is him going off on how pathetic and cliche someone that still uses the term woke and pejorative is and ending this rant by calling said people basement dwelling neckbeards. See the irony in this? It's still interesting to get his seasoned perspective on the games business but that is about it. Seriously, Gerstmann used to be such a unique voice and now he can't not spout the same neo-lib professional managerial class view as the rest of mainstream games media.

Legit, the most intellectual gaming podcast
I love video games. I LOVE them. But I’m not a kid anymore. My adult brain needs more than the flashy one-two punch energy that many streamers attach to in order to keep their audience engaged. Jeff is not like that. Though his show is still full of great energy, I love the way he breaks every bit of gaming news down as if he’s speaking to a peer. This is a show for all but it’s really great if you need that mental growth and stimulation. Give him a go! Also, the ads are really funny.

    Been Listening Since the 90s, and I don’t know…
At this point I feel I can call myself a lifelong fan of Jeff Gerstmann, back to trying to watch him on Gamespot on dial-up. I will always love him, but after a year I find myself usually turning off his show in aggravation. His intentionally ignorant takes for comedic effect were fun when there were others to then engage with those same games honestly. Now the jokes are just the coverage. His authority on games as a creative medium and industry has seemed weaker, and I find myself far too often knowing what he’s talking about better than him. I hope this is just a rough patch, but this isn’t a show I recommend anymore.

    Video games!
Fantastic long view on the video game industry, and an always-entertaining look at the week’s events. Plus, whatever else come’s to Jeff’s mind is pretty cool too.

    Depressing
It’s really difficult to host a one man podcast. Holding a conversation with yourself about video games seems extremely hard. Jeff doesn’t pull it off at all. It’s really sad.
  • itneededtobesaid
Is there any game that he actually likes???
Seems like he hates everything. I can vibe with that, but it’s dull at times.

    Not what I’m looking for!
This week’s show had a lengthy multi minute tangent about dental work/aligners/TMJ that was more like a random rant for the streaming audience and not great gaming podcast content. Potentially very triggering to anyone with tooth issues. There was also a weird borderline possibly offensive impersonation of an accented dental office employee at one point. I normally enjoy Jeff’s off topic content about energy drinks and stuff but this intense dental tangent was all the way not what I’m personally looking for so I am done! Takes fifteen minutes into episode 41 before video game content starts. There’s never been a better example of how Jeff thrives with a co host but really struggles on his own. Best of luck with your teeth dude, but I am out! Horrifying!

    Too negative
First off, Jeff is extremely knowledgeable on what he talks about. He’s been in the industry for a long time and it shows. He also has a very listenable voice, and you can tell he has a background in radio. But man, the negativity. Not necessarily on the video games themselves (although he’s often pretty contrarian to popular games as it is), but just the general vibe when he’s reading news about the industry. It sometimes feels as if Jeff is impossible to please, and sometimes it gets to the point where I have to stop listening to a podcast because of how exhausting it gets. I still listen on a weekly basis, but sometimes I do have to cut it short. I certainly prefer his style over the paid-for “Everything is awesome!” style of mainstream sites like IGN, but more of a happy medium would be nice. Nextlander is really the podcast that does it best.

    It’s Jeff. Just Jeff.
I’ve been following and listening to Jeff’s podcasts since he was at Gamespot. I don’t agree with him on much but he can explain why he feels the way he does about games and I respect his opinions. I’ve always viewed him as like an “Eric Cartman” in the groups he’s ran in. Which is great. He brings out the passion in others and comes with decades of stories and connections in gaming. Jeff alone though loses the best part of Jeff, the people he knows and grows with. The people he has the ability to bring out the best in. This podcast isn’t for me, which as someone who’s followed Jeff for literally more than a decade, is kind of sad. I hope to see him find a great group of people some day in the future to podcast with again but also accept this may be the future for Jeff. I wish him all the best and hope his future is full of happiness and success, even if that’s just him sitting in a room alone talking to the masses. As long as he’s happy. PS, Yoshi’s Island is fine.

    “And all that sorta stuff”
I think he says “and all that sorta stuff, at minimum, about 1,000 times per episode, so if you’re cool with that, enjoy the best podcast in gaming news and reviews!

a guy who knows a lot
This is the only single host podcast I listen to. Gerstmann’s decades of experience in video game coverage really shines through in this and the Patreon exclusive Game Boyz II Men, both of which I highly recommend.

    Love this man
It’s nice that he out doing his own thing. He keeps things focused on video games and occasionally wrestling. And doesn’t bring up politics like previous podcasts. That’s the best part. I know a vast majority are just sick of hearing about it. Just games. And the wrestles.

    It’s better than I thought it’d be.
I’m a big fan of hearing Jeff Gerstmann talk for hours on end. I wasn’t sure if it just being him would work, but it works better than I’d ever expected. This is a stellar ‘cast and I highly recommend it to other Jeff fans out there. A true bright spot in my week.

Fan of Jeff from Giant Bombcast and followed him here. Can listen to him talk about anything. Great podcast where he discusses a variety of topics, including non-video game items.
