Love Women’s History but wish there are more Women of Color
I’ve been listening to Susan and Beckett for several years now and I’m constantly listening to the episodes whether I’m driving or doing chores or simply just sitting-they really capture your interest and do such a thorough job with their research. However I wish they would cover more women of color and not just a couple…like seriously please include more women from around the world including strong Indian women who fought for their country and other Asian women as well as Black and Hispanic and Indigenous women. People often forget these women and they are unfortunately lost in history. Thank you History Chicks and keep up your awesome work! 😊🥳

    Love History Chicks!
I cheer when a new episode is dropped! This is the opposite of a boring old history lesson. Thank you for shining the light on ladies of history.

More Women of Color / LGBTQ pls!
I love this podcast! Been a long time listener (est 2017.). I appreciate their story telling and research, truly bravo! The only thing this podcast is lacking is intersectionality! I gather the hosts are generally aligned in this, but I wish there was more of a balance of women from different backgrounds covered. Especially during Pride month, Latin American Heritage month, Black History month, etc. SO many missed opportunities! Usually they just repost an old ep of the same small carousel of historical figures when these months roll around instead of highlighting someone they haven’t before. In this day and age, shining a light on women in history at the forefront of social change is soooo important.

    Always Interesting!
“Dropping her into history” is my most favorite intro to any podcast - sets the scene perfectly, along with the 30 second summary. The histories come alive and are put into great perspective, with the back and forth of these two fantastic (real life) story tellers!

    Love these gals!!
I love to listen to these two and my daughters enjoy the show as well. It’s a great learning experience for them and a fun way to learn about women of history without it coming directly from mom! They are homeschooled and that can be challenging so I’m really thankful for this resource because now they love history as much as I do. Please, never stop labeling episodes as not for little ears and please keep pausing and announcing when something needs to be skipped! I appreciate that SO MUCH! You ladies are the best. 💜💜

    Great history lessons!
For a non history loving girl, you two make this high interest! I learn all kinds of new things with you two! Thank you!

    Details!
I love this podcast. The research is impressive. The hosts provide great information and there’s not a lot of editorial chit chat. Great selection of biographies!

    Charming and informative
Update: I saw the Chicks live in St Louis and they were great! It was a casual, low production event but they were just how I had imagined they would be-smart and fun! (I was too chicken to ask them to drinks though.) And they are posting regularly which I love. I would listen if they were every week but it probably takes them a long time to put the podcasts together. I’ll try to be patient. From original review and still valid:It's like no other history podcast: not stuffy and academic, but highly informative; not fluffy chat showy but conversational. Over time the two have developed a delightful mix of well researched information and personality. The audio has improved over the years but the charm and homespun, casual vibe just gets better. They are sitting around a table and they make me feel like I am sitting with them. Going to keep an eye to see if they are coming to town and ask them for drinks. They are my people. (That's a hint, Chicks, to do live shows.)

    AMAZING! Changed my life
I cannot say enough good things about this show! The stories that Beckett and Susan tell us of women from history who have overcome all of the roadblocks placed in their way have inspired me to be brave, to reach higher, and stand up for myself. Sometimes it’s good to know that one person can make a difference in the world. I have gone back to school, changed careers, and am living my best life because of the stories I heard here. Thank you, thank you!

    Disappointing
These two struggle to discuss hard topics, especially non-white subjects. It’s jaw dropping at times. Hosts: take your pick. Beckett: Endless arrogance + rudeness (she doesn’t seem particularly smart but she’s certainly very well satisfied with herself! And incredibly dismissive of the other host) or Susan: very provincial, sometimes beyond belief (at least this one is a nice person!). Their views on slavery are out of time. This comes up in multiple episodes. They constantly babble about how various people “must have been ok with their situation.” Um, nope. Maybe they think Gone with the Wind is history too?

Started listening to this podcast a couple of weeks ago and I am in love! Beckett and Susan do a wonderful job of providing a detailed, nuanced picture of the woman. The amount of research that clearly goes into each episode is astounding. Love the History Chixs!

    2 Modern IT GIRLS!
I just found these fabulous historianettes with the bouyant heartbreak of Clara Bow and I’ll be hanging out with them for the foreseeable future - rest in pussypower, beloved sister Brooklynite Clara - in my neighborhood they would’ve called her “a hoo-ah” to which she’d have replied/sang “I don’t care, I don’t care, what people think of me-e-e!”. Thanks, chicklettes! X

    My all time favorite podcast!
The History Chicks is just the best. Susan and Beckett are the comforting voices I listen to each night as I go to sleep. The stories they tell about all of these historical women is so entertaining. I love how they provide so much information on their website about each woman, their Pinterest boards which is full of so much great information and The History Chicks Lounge on FB. They have built such a great podcast and community.

    History Magic
I didn’t like history much in school. But, these ladies bring it to life in such a way that makes me hunger for me. As a black women, born in England, emigrating to the US, and now living in Europe again, I appreciate the multi-cultural coverage of so many women that shaped the world. You two are the true daughters of history. Traveling through time in an intelligent, magical, and inspiring vehicle. Thank you for bringing us along for the ride!

    Mary Cassatt episode
Didn’t know much about her. Wished I had when I was a younger artist searching for role models. Many male instructors disparaged her as least important of the impressionists so I never investigated her beyond looking at her paintings when I came across them in museums. Always learn so much from this show.

    My comfort podcast
Can not get enough of this podcast! I would listen to a new episode everyday if that was an option. No other history podcast scratches the itch quite like this one for me. Susan and Beckett have great podcast voices. I often find myself going back to listen to past episodes when I have ran out of current ones. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait until the day I can join you ladies on a field trip!

My favorite people to have tea with
I’ve been listening for 8 years now, and the quality has stayed consistently wonderful. I actually wrote to them back in college and got starstruck when they wrote back! This podcast was a very influential piece of media for me in my early 20s. It had me thinking about adversity, legacy, my own life passions, and academia. I appreciate the accurate information from trusted sources. I feel like I’m having a cup of tea with my favorite professor! Thank you for the years of knowledge, love, and history!
  • ShannonSNJ
    Where is she?
When will you ladies cover Catherine de' Medici? You must admit, she’s long overdue! I’m getting all of my historical info on her from other sources, and I’d love to hear it from you two! Please? 😊
  • Abbey Dixon
    An Absolute Masterpiece
When looking for a podcast on The Winchester House to listen to while working I stumbled upon the most amazing masterpiece. The perfect combination of facts and pure wit, mixed in with just enough conversation to not make the listener feel as if they’re just listening to a friend ramble as a lot of history podcasts on this app tend to do. Susan and Beckett have narrated the last 7 months of my life out loud and in my headphones; accompanying me on my Honeymoon from Alabama to New York City and in my home while washing my dishes, cooking dinners and child wrangling. Being caught up and having to wait two weeks on episodes after having such an extensive and wonderful catalog to binge is the only downside I have found to the beautiful production.

    Perfect New Friends
A search in Podcast Land for Jane Austen introduced me to my new friends, Beckett and Susan! They share my interests, offer sparkling conversation, and are available any time I am free. I’ve cooked, driven, cleaned, and gone on long walks with them. The best thing about these down-to-earth ladies is that they bring along the best of companions - queens, writers, inventors, entertainment personalities! What’s not to like??? Listen to them now 😀

    Starting again
Thank you Beckett and Susan. Your fun conversations continue to make history as fascinating and interesting as I always knew it was. For years, I could only find biographies of men and scant references to women. But then I came across your podcasts. I started listening to you during the pandemic and have just gobbled them up. Sometimes two a day. I’m catching up to your current postings and feeling sad. But I was reminded that, like a good piece of art, a fine book, or one of your excellently researched podcasts, I can always go back and start again. Yeah for 21st Century technology!!
  • KalynnTelmanik
Great information presented by two charming hosts
Don’t believe the bad reviews out there, these women do there research and truly love history and telling women’s stories. I’ve never heard them “be-little” anyone as another reviewer states nor do they make light of slavery as a different reviewer stated. They will often try to bring things into perspective of the modern era, something that some may find helpful to understand the situation the subject was in. I also love there informal approach they have where neither knows what info the other has found and is planning on presenting till they turn on the mic. They never claim to be professional historians just two women who have a passion for women’s history.

Amazing Way to travel in time
We never begin a review without thanking our friends at Apple for providing a platform for the voice of the podcast audience. Let's get into History Chicks… I found History Chicks as I was searching for a podcast that was filled with stories of the past. As I scrolled through their library of podcasts I was amazed at the catalog of stories they covered. ( Where have I been all this time?) I have loved every person they have covered from Coco Chanel. Althea Gibson and the phenomenal woman herself Maya Angelou. That was my favorite. The History Chicks have not left one stone unturned. They have become the history class I feel I missed and thrilled to see the range of stories they cover. This is an unpaid plug. This is a 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 show. These ladies have done their homework, are funny, and have found a way to tell the stories of iconic people. I look forward to catching up. This is one of my new favorite podcasts.
