Show notes would put this podciast on the next level

Photo Focus is known for ads and product placement first, which would make it more enticing for the creators to list these sponsors in the show notes. However, I can't find any shownotes on their website. The sound quality could definitely use an improvement - get some realy mics guys. But - there are nuggets to be found if you can survive the ad barage and poor sound quality.

I wanted to like it

The guys seem super nice and knowledgeable but I can’t make it past all of the obnoxiously distracting sounds. The audio is rough. I listened to the episode about the eclipse and I swear it sounded like Darth Vader was breathing into the mic for at least the first 15-20 minutes. I’ll come back at a later date to try again.

Disappointing production quality

Ambient noise close to microphone is very distracting. Breathing, squeaks, liquid dripping etc

Vocal Fry

This podcast used to be great. Rich Harrington and Scott Bourne had great podcasting voices. Lately, more and more of the podcasters have vocal fry. The podcast still has good content if you can stand the poor sound quality: vocal fry, sometimes background noise, and sometimes bad levels.

Generally very good

I listen specifically to the Mirrorless Show and only to the others occassionally. I find the discussion a good way to keep abreast of mirrorless news, and I'm interested in the opinions of the hosts about the cameras they've tried. I am a bird photographer like Scott Bourne, so I am especially interested in his comments on that topic. There is virtually no fluff, and the ads are very quick. It's a good value for the time I spend listening. Mr. Bourne holds his opinions strongly and isn't afraid to speak his mind. I know this can bother others, but I'm interested in a frank opinion. Of course, I don't have to agree with it, and he's not asking me to. I don't think he presents his opinions in an arrogant or condecending mannor. Mr. Marco (sorry, can't recall his last night right now) is a little more easy going, but he too has valuable insights I appreciate.

One of my favorite podcasts.

So glad to run across this - I'm always looking for podcasts that actually inform and teach, especially about photography. These guys knock it out of the park - and I especially love that they often talk about the business of photography as well. Perfect for pros and amateurs alike.

Best Show!

The four topci shows per month are the best. Provide a great deal of information and advice for aspiring photographers. Love Scott, Marco, Pepper, Rich and the other hosts for their dedication to creating photography content for us ! Best Podcast Photograhy show !

Good content, bad production

Good conversations here with helpful information, but Scott really needs to invest in a good quality USB mic. Marco's audio quality is excellent and Scott sounds like he's in the bottom of a 200 gallon drum. When you have two hosts, matching audio quality should be the first priority and this podcast is an excellent example of what goes wrong when audio quality is neglected.

I make time for the mirrorless podcast. Lots of content and a reasonably concise package.

Changes

Older reviews here voice disappointment with the "new" format which did away with the Q&A that many fans found useful. Apparently, it's back and I would assume that those listeners should be happy. For those who dump on Scott for espousing his personal opinions, I say, It's a podcast and he can voice whatever view in whatever manner he cares to. If you don't like it, leave it. Simple. As for the sound quality, for two guys who have so much professional experience in video and audio, Bourne and Harrington really don't show it. Please invest in a decent mic, some controllers, some sound deadening materials for your walls. It will make all the difference in the world. The poor audio quality is annoying at best, and truly distracting from the message.

Falls short of its potential

I’ve listened to this and many other photography related podcasts, for years. Scott has been on and off active podcasts from Photofocus for many years since he first launched it. The current return with some new show additions - such as the Mirrorless segment is what prompts this review. It is at best disappointing to hear inaccurate data presented as factual info, which is what I have heard several times now on this podcast. Do yourself a favor and fact check the info that is provided. Some of it is simply not accurate or true. Disappointing, as many have stated. This one is falling off my weekly listen list of podcasts.Too much ego, not enough accurate fact. There are better podcasts to listen to than this one.

Love it

There's a great mix of news and how to and inspiration in these podcasts. The negative comments about Scott are totally off-base in my view. His level of knowledge and his ability to share it and communicate it are awesome and appreciated by this listener. I have been a photographer for 46 years (yikes!) and still pick up useful tips every time I listen.

Mirrorless? Should be Fujifilm podcast

I get it! These two guys shoot Fuji! While I’m sure they are great cameras there is more to the mirrorless world than Fuji! The first episode was all about some Fuji cameras that were just announced. The second was a review of a Fuji camera with a mention of Olympus. The third was mainly (I had to stop listening) reviewing yet another Fuji camera. The fourth was a review of a Fujifilm compact camera (not mirrorless) and then an interview with a guy from Panasonic. They even had the nerve to say that they were open minded about other camera lines and said that they would do more with others, although under his breath if you listened Scott said most others, that’s open minded! If I could unsubscribe to just the mirrorless show I would. At least change the name to the Fujifilm Mirrorless show and be truthful!

Love this Podcast!

Richly produced with some of the best photography minds in the business, this podcast will help you with inspiration, the mirrorless revolution, as well as interviews with some thought leaders in the field. Scott Bourne and Marco are superb together. The best podcast of its kind on the web. Thank you PhotoFocus!

Could use a bit improvement

The recent podcast are not that useful. The audio is okay for most of the episodes. Not much time is spent enhancing the audio with sound effects or music. It seems to spend most of the time promoting events and photographers. Levi Sims voice is the only voice that sounds good to be a real host, he has a charming way of speaking. Most the podcast are in the category of informational blah. That is not providing any real content and way to much talking about nothing of substance. Remember podcast listeners like value. What is it your offering to the listener? A heat felt story and free content gets you followers. Not sales pitches and big heads. I’ll listen to a few more and I’ll re rate this podcast in a few months. If it gets better this review will change.

Roberto Valenzuela and Sears = OMG

And all honesty it was like being hit in the head with a bat one Roberto said you don't want to shoot Sears type portraits. I think that's exactly what I've been trying to do a little bit better so this was eye-opening. Thank you photo focus.

Past it’s prime

When I say Photofocus is past it’s prime, I’m not saying it’s jumped the shark. It’s still a solid three out of five stars and a worthwhile listen. But it’s not the same don’t-miss show that Scott Bourne hosted. Rich Harrington is a very fine host and brings a fresh perspective to the show. Rich, on his own, could make the show a solid 4 star podcast, but the addition of Levi Sim brings it down a notch, or more. Levi’s wide-eyed, youthful perspective (regardless of his age) lacks the authoritative interview style that I prefer. Could I do better — not a chance.

Good

First time listening to the photofocu podcast. Listened to Levi Sim interview Chris Smith and and older one with Zak Arias. I’m surprised with the rather negative reviews. The beauty of the podcast is if it doesn’t grab you, move on. I found it rather fascinating to hear Zac A. talk rather bluntly about his feelings toward photography, gear and his goals. And then there was the little kernel from Chris Smith on using live view.

I enjoy it.

I didn’t realize people were so annoyed by this podcast.. I enjoy it. It seems like every episode, they go over something I was just researching about and it makes it click. I think Rich is a very humble and knowledgeable host. Keep up the good work! I just started watching all the video tutorials.

Too Much Marketing & Selling

I've reached the point where I can't listen to this podcast any longer. I feel like I need to take a shower after listening to them because too much of the show is direct and indirect marketing and selling. It's gotten worse over time.

Great Source of Information

I have been a listener of PhotoFocus for several years now and learned a tremendous amount that has improved my photography over that time period. The new format of the show and website have taken it to a new level and I like that there is even more information available now as well as less smarminess. Great job!!

A must for any photographer.

Photofocus is one of the oldest photography podcasts in existence, and it’s lasted this long for good reason. Scott Bourne, Rich Harrington, and Melissa Niu each have their own, and VERY distinctive personalities, and each one of them shines through in their approach. Their varying styles all come together in a very eclectic and multi-faceted photography podcasts. They do a great job of mixing information from the technical side, along with information from the creative and motivational side of both artists and developers. I listen to 5 photography podcasts regularly, and this is one of them. Figured it was about time I showed them some love here. Thanks for everything you do.

Great Podcast

I've always enjoyed this podcast. It provides a variety of topics and points of view. There is a nice blend of guests and informative topics that are covered. I'll keep listening (in the 5th, 15th and the 25th).

This podcast has the right mix of interviews with experts, tips and timely issues. I've learned a lot and listen with interest every time the show is released. Great job!

Good content sometimes, but...

I'm unsubscribing. I've listened for a while now, and have gleaned some good information, but I find the hosts difficult to listen to. Rich is obviously very knowledgeable, but I think his interviews might be stronger if we heard less of his point of view and more from the guest. Melissa is likable, no question. I wonder if she might be more effective in interviews if she didn’t try to be quite so ebullient. I’m not saying she should be deadly serious, just maybe dial the apparent enthusiasm back a stop. Scott, of course, is unapologetically Scott, love him or hate him. From a technical perspective, audio, for the interviews especially, can be very inconsistent. That said, I think they may be working to solve some of those issues; it’s been better the last couple of episodes. These are my personal takeaways. Your mileage will absolutely vary.

Good Variety of Content

The sound quality could be improved, but the content is very good. I hadn't listened for a while, but the 9/15 episode with Tamara Lackey was excellent, and hopefully foretells an increased focus on the business and creative side, versus the gear-centric focus of earlier episodes.

Just Gets Worse

I had hopes that with Rich Harrington this would improve but that just hasn't happened. Scott continues to drag this podcast into the dumps espousing his curmudgeon-like attitude. We get it Scott, you don't like the state of the photographic world and you have had enough and just are going to retire. Great idea! Just pull the plug and really go away.

Disappointing

This podcast has moments, few and far between, of useful insight. But the arrogance and pettiness of the hosts are a little difficult to get thru. Since they have now decided to focus predominately on Adobe post processing and forsaking other useful products, there is certainly no reason for me to remain a listener. I tried to listen again, but the production is SO poor, I have to adjust the volume when they switched from host to guest.

Does anyone listen to the final result prior to uploading? The echo on the Sept 5 episode is unlistenable. Love the podcast, but C'mon....

This is a very good podcast that is very informative and has some good humor. Scott Bourne knows just about everything there is to know about photography!

This USED TO BE my favorite photography podcast...

The recent major changes to this show have ruined it for me. I miss the Q&A based show format! The old show helped me learn more than any other podcast out there while it lasted. The new format is just plain boring and pretty much non-beneficial to my development as a photographer. I loved and learned a lot from the older Q&A episodes with guests such as Scott Kelby, Jerry Ghionis, Vincent Laforet, and others. Too bad...

Sound levels are unusable

When listening to previous episoes from Scott Bourne, the sound levels from each speaker pretty much aligned with each other, but now this version with Richard Harrington is terrible. Harringon voice is in the mud, while the guests are loud, so make a decision, listen to the MC and blow out your ears or miss the MC and have good levels for the guest. This especially important when I do not want to disturb my wife when I listen at night. In addition the content has not kept up to the Photofocus from a couple of years ago. I will be unsubscribing.

The Bourne Arrogance

My iPod doesn't have enough capacity for Scott Bourne's arrogance and ego. I don't thinks anybody cares about how much money he makes or how many cameras he owns. He's an arrogant blowhard that's bounced around from Podcast to Podcast.
