JFree444Good but Could be GreatThe content is great. Derrick is a sharp baseball thinker, but he often outpaces his guests in terms of the conversation. For example, on a recent episode, Kevin Wheeler’s prescription for improving the team was the following: “Find players no one knows about, and make them better.” That’s some high level analysis 🤦♂️

ShaneDunc20Glad your backI have been wondering if the show had ended. It is one of my favorites and I had been worried you were not doing it anymore. I was so excited when I saw the new episode pop up. I’m glad your still going and can’t wait to hear more. Also I hear Bernie is free right now. He would make a great guest star like he has in the past. Keep it up and glad your back.

du_du11111Hello? Hello? Anyone there? There must be something about June. You started this year out really well with plenty of podcasts. Kudos for the podcasts prior to June 15th, and congrats for the Post-Dispatch being one of your advertisers this year. However, nothing seems to change the fact that a podcast drought occurs at midseason every baseball season, year after year.. the rotation is out of gas, the bullpen is exhausted, and the offense? yea not much to talk about..

JimGeorge3232My go-to showLove the show, Derrick. BenFred might be my favorite recurring guest, but fun to get the national view of the team from other writers. Hope to have you back soon.

TN Jeff 1Loved the Lance Lynn interview!Keep up the good work!

Who’s number One ?Lance LynnThis interview very enjoyable and insightful.

Blares2000As the title says….This IS the best podcast in baseball

Mattoon Mike 1956Great showThe name is appropriate. Derrick always delivers an interesting podcast. It is the best baseball podcast far and away.
-
maxatlofTough listenFor the most part a solid Cards podcast. However Daniel Guerrero is brutal to listen to, had no public speaking/media speaking skills. Just like the Ben Hockman episodes, I’ll be sure to skip the Dan Guerrero episodes as well.

6 year user of appThank you, Commish.Thank you for the podcast with Will and sharing your love & respect for Commish as you grieve and process losing such an important person to you, personally and professionally.

ScaffoldingUKGoold starThis has consistently been my favourite baseball podcast for years. If you are a Cardinals fan and haven’t listened, do. A message to Derrick Goold: You requested feedback following your most recent episode (19 May 2023 as of this review). The Q

Annie in DenverGreat material, ambient noise distractionLove the podcast, but there is often extraneous noise that sounds like someone taking notes on a piece of paper. Derrick, watch where you microphone is when you’re not talking. I’ve had to turn it off too many times because of the noise.

tomincoDoesn’t come out often enough. When this podcast comes out orb really is good, but there is no consistency in releases. Once a week would be awesome, but every two weeks would be better than what it can be now.

J/ HotaOne of my favoritesThere’s a long list of podcasts I’m subscribed to but a short list of must-listens. Best Podcast in Baseball is always a must-listen. Goold is always very fair, intelligent, and well tempered. These traits and his tactful word choices seem to yield him stellar conversations that many other journalists and podcasters don’t get to have. The episode with Susan Slusser last year stands out to me as a really fascinating insight to the Giants & the Cardinals philosophies. Other great episodes include: Jesse Rogers ESPN, Ben Verlander, & GM Mike Girsch. Although BenFred offers terrible proposals sometimes, I love episodes with him or Bernie because they have huge passion for improving the team every step of the way. Audio quality is inconsistent, but the recording set up for this podcast is nomadic. So, I have no gripes. I’d like to hear from some pitching experts in the future, and I hope Jeff Passan can make his way on BPIB sometime.

Kelly L. WalkerNever Miss an EpisodeDoes a great job of being a team oriented show that simply loves baseball. DG is a terrific writer and that doesn’t always translate to a quality podcast host, but in this case it works and becomes better and better each year. Enjoyable and knowledgeable guests, interesting topics, always happy to see it pop into my feed each week.

Kriskross88Evan DrellichThe episode with Evan Drellich was fantastic! I could have listened for many more hours. Thank you for this content.

Andy in SEAGreat Podcast by the Best Coverage Team in BaseballIf you only read the “constant Cardinals coverage” as presented by the St. Louis Post Dispatch, it’s tough to appreciate the quality and quantity of the coverage relative to other MLB teams. But rest assured, these guys are as good, if not better, than anyone else in covering their team and working their beat. I especially enjoy the episodes with beat writers from other teams, since they have the real inside scoop on their teams and how they fit in the league landscape.

LightLAB24Thanks!I’m that baseball fan who doesn’t watch many other sports. 😁 Thanks for all the interesting commentary. I would rate it a DIIIIIVING CATCH! out of 10

DotemFree12345Good podcast, but…It’s a really good podcast featuring great conversations between people who really do know the game of baseball, and they provide educated and thought-provoking analysis. My irk is that during the last few episodes, it’s obvious that Derrick is writing something on a notepad with a pencil when he’s not talking, and that “sharpened graphite against padded looseleaf” sound is aptly apparent in the background and it really takes away from the conversation. Either Derrick is writing about something that has to do with the podcast (which would be odd considering he’s recording an audio podcast about it), or he’s multitasking or perhaps prepping for his next column. Either way, it’s annoying.

mg161616301709Love this podcastI love the BPIB. Best ones are with Kevin Wheeler. He compliments Goold perfectly.
-
terdfurgosenDg is the bestSmart, engaging topical and authentic. This is ALWAYS a good listen and makes us all smarter baseball fans.

Chaser_39Thanks for the Hour Long AdAnother money grab for a dying industry that refuses to see the reality that newspapers are no longer relevant.
-
jj32561ThanksGreat podcast, I’ve been listening since the beginning. Will you ask BenFred if he ever got his neighbor that leg lamp? Thanks Jim
-
phikinThumbs down to Kevin Wheeler!Listening to him act like letting everyone into the playoffs or making it easier for crap teams to win really boggles my mind. Can you imagine how big a problem tanking would become?
-
bobkobberfigGreat podcastDerrick always has a great discussion with the guest and a realistic assessment of what’s happening. He asks good thought-provoking questions.
-
Ra5putinGreat stuff!Thank you for mentioning the stupid, self-defeating blackout rule the MLB imposes on Internet broadcasts, specifically how bad it is for baseball fans in Iowa. I am trying to get my kids to be obsessive Cards fans, but we can’t get the cable station here and radio just won’t draw them in. With a work stoppage? I’ll stop trying to recruit them.
-
JehsjwjsjsjehejejekskeGood content/terrible audioHard to understand why the sound quality is so bad. Especially when someone is on the phone. Volume goes waaay up and then fades.
-
RLGJAZZCrushed InterviewLoved your chat with Joan Niesen. Crushed is great and I recommend it to any baseball fan. Thanks Derrick for the interview and congrats to Joan for a great series
-
scomart21ScottLove the perspective. But please work on the sound quality.

Will B- a Cards fanLove this PodcastI honestly look forward to this Podcast every week. I liken it to when your favorite tv shows on a given day.

Illini_drewMissing contentAbsolutely love this podcast. Haven't heard one since before spring training. Do I need to look somewhere else for this content, or has Mr. Goold just been busy?
-
Meatball SubsNeeds more interaction between speakersToo often the podcast is mostly the host asking very long and leading questions or talking in long blocks of time. I’d prefer more interaction between him and his guests.

That Guy With OpinionsVery very good...with a few thoughts.1. Wish someone could get a handle on the difference in volume between Derrick and his guests in a show. When one voice is incredibly loud and the other is incredibly quiet in on conversation, it makes the show unlistenable. This show has been on for years. This is an easy easy fix which I wish would happen. 1. The dancing fairies music bed and intro blurb on the front side of the show doesn’t usually work too well. It’s difficult to hear because the audio is consistently too quiet when listening in the car. If you’re hearing it with closed-ear headphones or in a quiet environment, the nuance of the cutesy-ish audio sort of works, but in real-world listening environments, it’s just confusing and a bit irritating. 2. This show doesn’t seem to be a strong suit for Ben. He seems like a fine fellow and knows baseball, but his tone and, well, personality don’t mesh with Derrick’s. I’ve been waiting for Ben to settle down and find his groove and it just doesn’t seem to be happening. Derrick seems to be consistently exercising patience while Ben fumbles his way through attempts at humor and steps on Derrick’s measured wisdom. Derrick is a rare talent and Ben is, well, simply not nearly as good. If Derrick found a better co-host, it would be a really nice step forward for the show, but I understand that could be difficult to find since I’m assuming this podcast is one of many many responsibilities to take on in modern journalism. Go Cards!

Tony MantiaKeep ‘em comingLove when there’s a crossover with reporters from other teams—like the latest with Martino of SNY. Really enjoy hearing C. Trent—always has a great take. BenFred and Anne Rogers are great. Love the Commish. Would be open to hearing from other baseball scribes in other markets, and/or either Cardinals front office personnel or MLB execs. GREAT hearing Bernie again. I would be interested to hear stuff on early STL Cards, Browns, and/or Stars history. The Sklar Bros is a stand out episode. Would enjoy an episode with Jason Stark. Keep ‘em coming!

Greg1616Welcome back BernieThoroughly enjoyed the podcast with Andy Martino. Like you, I can’t wait for his book to come out. Here’s hoping that baseball, especially the Cardinals, and BPIB can continue. Greg Wren

Who dunnit?Top notch reportingYou can’t ask for better, more detailed, timely reporting on the Cardinals and baseball. Reflective of the P-D’s tremendous quality and dedication to baseball beat writing and columns. Gets only 4 stars because BPIB needs some serious technical expertise to get volume right; multiple episodes have had very low audio for Goold’s guests.
-
USAFSOONERAwesomeEssential for all Cardinal fans.
-
LA WaltAwesome PodFresh perspectives on the bigger picture of baseball!
-
rbjapGreat podcastAs a St. Louis native who now lives out of state, it's great to listen to the podcast and stay in the loop with what's going on with the Cardinals and in baseball as a whole from people that are much closer to it than I.
-
D MorainBest Podcast, PeriodI typically check my catalog of shows to see when a new one comes up, then try to listen when I have free time. BPIB is the only one where I make it a point to listen as soon as possible. Great insight, great content.

jjcoachRecent episodeLove Sam M. BTW, his last name has a hard G, not soft

jags457AudioAudio quality much improved!😃

mrryan2020Greg warrenLoved the Greg warren episode. It was great to hear a “regular” guy talking with you and benfred. Love all of the episodes, but especially those with benfred and “local” celebrities and guests (especially baseball guys like c.trent Rosecrans!!)
-
Keitk08Great podLong time, first time.... etc. I just wanted to say as a previous MLB front office employee I have to say that when mike and Derek said that interns needed to be paid I agree and had voiced my concern about that while with in the MLB circle. I think that in itself if MLB limiting the pool of those who are financially able to go to college and then take a position that was difficult to pay rent student loans and etc with.
-
WienersnitzelGood aside from GooldWhenever Ben Fred or Benjamin Hochman contributes to the podcast, they offer insightful, well thought out baseball commentary and substance. Derrick Goold, however, has become pretentious, frequently talks over his cohost and guests, and has a hard time keeping his political stance and tenor out of the baseball conversation that is supposed to be happening.
-
TristaBallingUpHerFistaOutstanding! This is such a great podcast. Goold has a great mind and really knows baseball. The guests are fantastic.
-
Runner Ray IAudio not goodOne voice was too loud if you had the audio adjusted so that you could hear the second voice I found also the audio is terrible. You can barely hear the host, even when the audio is maxed. Then the guest is too loud.
-
PNW25Very informative, audio needs workTop notch info discussed on the BPIB. Must listen for any Cardinals fan. Intro and outro can drag on at times. Audio is also very inconsistent. Please work on a better audio source for the host and guests! Love your stuff otherwise.
-
Fats McGee 618Love it but why does it take so longI love this podcast but why does it take so long to get a new one!!! Also, what happened to the hour long pods? You do a great job sir, give us more!!! Including more of your insights

FjfnycbTop show on today. Or any dayNever miss one of these. All are fantastic for baseball fans. Especially cardinal fans. Doesn’t matter the guest. Love them all.
