Great tips and so fun to listen to!
This is a great podcast for anyone who backpacks, from beginners to experts. There are so many tips and I love hearing the Leglers personal experiences as well!! This is definitely a positive way to spend 30 minutes. Highly recommend!!

    Just Discovered this!
Just discovered this and listened to your first and then last episode with the beautiful song! I want to write the words of the last verse down and frame them (with your name as the author of course), it really spoke to my soul. I have a calling for the forest, for nature, for Gods creation and as a 45 year old mom of teens I’m getting geared up to go out and backpack finally in this stage of life. Thank you for the tips, now to go listen to the rest.

On my top 5 list for sure
A thru hike of the AT has always been on my bucketlist but now it’s on the 5 year plan and I’m starting to plan my journey and learn as much as I can before I go.I just found this podcast and it’s easily in my top 5 podcast list and I listen to A LOT of podcasts. It has been so much fun to listen to. I love that Heather and Josh put together a show that discusses gear review, backpacking hacks (I LOVE ALL THE FOOD IDEAS YUM-O) and some trail knowledge that will be very valuable when I start my hike. I’ve even got a little note book I jot down the recipes and notes in. Thank you guys for putting together something that’s fun to listen to!

    Love this!
I’m still listening to your podcast and it is my favorite thing to listen too. I listen to it EVERY DAY and it is the best part of my day. It is super encouraging too because I can’t get out much right now because of COVID, and your podcast helps me to feel like I’m getting out. Thank you Heather and Josh! I love you guys!

    Come Back!
It was awesome listening to all of your episodes from the past! I just finished the last episode and I’m so sad that I won’t be able to hear any future episodes. Thank you for all of the awesome content!

Fantastic! Informative and to the point!
I’m late to the party here having found this podcast after it ended. Being only on day 3 it is so far the BEST backpacking informational podcast I’ve found. Straight to the point and stays on topic. Doesn’t wander around with a bunch of chatter and stories about feelings. Love the backpacking hacks, tips, recipes and quotes at the end. Length of each podcast is perfect for my daily walks. Thank you to the husband and wife team that put this together - hope you and your kids are still enjoying trails!

Very informative and a hint of laughter in each episode
This is probably the best podcast about backpacking out there. I wish they could make a new podcast about something else, but related in a way to this one or like they said they could check back in every once in a while just to talk with the listeners or this podcast. All in all I’m just really sad that this has ended.

    I Hope This Stays
I will help raise funds to host these, if need be. This podcast is a treasure of hiking knowledge. I have never been hiking in my life, but I close my eyes and enjoy the outdoors, just the same. The knowledge, anecdotes, product reviews, and FUN are what make this podcast my all-time favorite. And I’ve never even been hiking.

    Part of the family
I loved this podcast and I am very sad to see it end. I felt like I was apart of their family. I still relisten to episodes, when I need a refresher on a topic. Their are fun and super informative.

    Great for solo trading hikes
I listen to pod casts on my solo daily training hikes. When I found this pod cast I fell in love with it. Josh and Heather sounds like they really love hiking and love each other. Their pod casts are clear and concise. Well planned and not just rambling. Their tips and gear reviews are just that “their views” some will work out for me and some will not. I have gears that I love to use on the trails and my friends hates. I have recommend this pod cast to all my out door friends. I was sad to find out they have stopped making new episodes, I am binging all their shows now. But also applaud them for ending when they have nothing else to share. I rather they end on a high note then to just sit around and ramble about nothing. Happy Trails 🚶🏻‍♂️⛰

Great for backpackers of all levels
Joyful and informative. Targeted at the entry level, I still get a lot out of the series as an experienced backpacker. Well structured and well prepared. An easy listening treat.

I’m always looking for a new episode!
This is the best backpacking podcast out there. I love the hack of the week, excellent gear reviews, and all the stories. I also like the references to the Boy Scouts with which I’m very familiar. I love how they incorporate the family into backpacking. As a fellow ukulele musician, I loved the show on bringing tunes to the trail. I look forward to every episode.

    Keeps me dreaming
I started listening to this podcast about a month ago and absolutely love it! The hosts are a married couple who backpack together and it seems often with their children. They are pleasant to listen to and I love that the show is clean and has a positive tone. The episodes are both informative and inspirational and I especially enjoy the backpacking hack segments. As someone who has only backpacked once (over eleven years ago) but wants to get out there agin, this show keeps me dreaming. Thank you Josh and Heather for producing a great show!
  • eherron16
Love them! So inspiring to my new goals.
It’s like they know me and what I’m thinking. The know my worries and tell me how to get through it. Backpacking is more than preparing with the gear, it’s preparing mentally and making yourself strong before you go out.

    Great advice
Thanks so much for giving me the confidence to go out on my own trips. I have only done overnights at this point, but your advice has been great!

    Thruhiker enjoys this show!
Even if you’re not a beginner hiker you’ll still enjoy this show. Love hearing the different ideas and product reviews. I’m an experienced hiker but I don’t have kids so I enjoy hearing how to get the whole family involved, in case I have kids someday I’ll want to take them out.

    Great podcast
The Leglers rock! Their podcast is entertaining, informative, and inspiring.

    Practical and useful information
These two are seriously cute. I love hearing the tips and tricks! When you’re backpacking you generally run into kind folks who want to share, and that is who they are! The underquilt trick is something I will be doing going forward!

Worth a listen, but for a niche market
I gave about 15 episodes a listen and wasn’t getting enough value out of this podcast. I feel like I’m in grade school again. Essential oils on a backpacking trip???? Explaining the “Summit gear review” every episode? Today they reviewed all weather paper. Such useful info!!! I’m always struggling with paper on the trail. To introduce the topic, they spent 30 seconds explaining heathers love for paper.

Thirst quenching for that newbie backpacking knowledge
I am hopelessly in love with this Podcast. As a hiker, but wannabe backpacker with huge dreams, and also a newly minted Scoutmaster that wants to bring backpacking back into my Troop (enough of the camping out of a trailer!!), this Podcast is perfect for my thirst of knowledge.

    Folksy trail wisdom
Folksy trail wisdom is the easiest way to describe the show. Some things they discuss I already knew, some are brand new to me. But everything is fun. Every episode gets my feet itching to hit the trail. I think that's the highest praise for a show like this v

To see my first backpacking trip check out my web site at outdoorsinspired.org. I really like your podcast.

    dragging out
I love all the info I get from the Podcast. I just wish the girl would not constantly drag out the name of the show...a little to theatrical for my taste ! But other than that I like. THE FIRST FORTY MILES

A truly complete reference source for hiking/backpacking
Online references and shownotes including links this podcast gives you all you need and is a clean verbiage podcast as well - love it

    Great podcast
Heather and Josh do a great job diving into topics that make backpacking approachable.

    Fantastic Podcast. Fun and informative.
Just getting into hiking and possibly backpacking. These podcasts have been extremely helpful so far, and I've only listened to ~20 or 30. I really enjoy listening to them, both Heather and Josh sound like very nice people. They're articulate, funny, and very helpful. So glad I stumbled across this podcast. Keep up the great work!

    Love the Podcast
Okay, gotta be honest. First time I listened I was like “these guys are kinda goofy...” but then I learned to love the goofy jokes and laughed right along. GREAT information. GREAT job organizing the content. GREAF variety of subjects that relate to backpacking. Learned about BLM land through this podcast and put my new knowledge to use on a trip to Utah. Leaned about all kinds of gear and tricks. Also really enjoy the way you guys incorporate your kids! Overall a big thumbs up!

    Very enjoyable to listen to
This podcast is great! Especially when you’re a beginner it is worth listening to all the episodes. They all have great information to give and they are a joy to listen to.

    Too many mushrooms
Usually enjoy the podcast, but was super bummed to hear another podcast, right after last weeks, about hunting mushrooms.. love that you found a new passion, but not something I’m going to personally relate to!

Great show, very informative, and cute family! I hope to use their hikes to guide my own travels once out in the NW!

    Cute and interesting
I started looking for a backpacking podcast on a whim. The hosts are very mellow and easy to listen to. Learned quite a bit in just a few episodes! I ran through the first 10 episodes before I decided to listen to the newest episode to see how the show has changed. I'm giving the podcast four stars because I was honestly surprised to find that nothing in the show's layout has seemed to have changed in 3-4 years... I might pick out particular themed episodes I want to listen to now because I've already become weary of its rigid structure. It works but it's a little too formulatic for me.

    So annoying!
I can't stand the way the woman speaks! The slow pace, the over-enunciation - it's like she's speaking to a dim-witted child!
  • CloudTrekker
    Waste of time and energy!
These people are annoying, no real good information, and a waste of time to listen to. They don't deliver anything good and rant on and on about their own stupidity. Just lame. Deleted the subscription. Every time I hear her voice, my skin crawls. Better searching the web for actual advice. Get off the air you two and don't quit your day jobs!!

    Kindergarten in Session
Ugh... I'm sure they are very nice people, they sound like very nice people. But the patronizing content that is espoused in this podcast is ear bleeding. If you want to be talked to like a 5 year old, then this podcast is for you. Sorry
  • Allofthenicknamesaretaken123
What's the name of the podcast again?
"All this and that's about it on the firrrrrrrst fooooorrrrty miles. Today on the first 40 miles..." This is an entertaining podcast, but it's about time for a new introduction.
  • lallygagers
    Enjoyable
Love listening! I'm only a couple episodes in but I am loving it and can't wait to hear more.
  • Mooses64
    Inspirational
Heather and Josh are the reason I gained the confidence to go on my first camping adventure. Their attitude is just get out there and do it--start slow and keep moving. We're planning our first forty-miler for the fall, and we'll be putting much of the info we learned here to good use.

    Ridiculous advice
I was excited to find this podcast and hoped It would offer solid tips for someone new to backpacking. In the first episode I learned to lighten my load by not packing toothpaste or coffee. How much does instant coffee even weight? I should have stopped there but held out hope. A few eps later I was told to pack essential oils. They can help reduce stress, AND I can brush my teeth with them. If I wasn't already stressed from lack of coffee and toothpaste I would not need the essential oils. When I hit episode 7's "top five uses for an umbrella" I hit delete.

    the best
this is such a great podcast! i love the way it's set up, it feels like someone is reading a magazine to me. i love the backpack hike of the week, the quotes, and the summit gear review. it's really important to me that Josh and Heather are so honest about all the gear they review. i would recommend this podcast to anyone! thank you josh and heather and keep up the good work!! tuesday is my new favorite day of the week! if you haven't already listened to this podcast please check it out. there's always something to learn and take away from the podcast whether you're a beginner or an expert.

    Good fun
I just found this show a few weeks ago and plowed through the whole back catalog. I'm an experienced solo (almost) ultralighter, and this show is geared toward a more traditional style of backpacking and focuses a lot on helping out beginners...but I still enjoy it. The hosts are almost over-the-top nice. I can't imagine either of them ever sweating IRL. But they're always genuine and never saccharine, so it's hard to hold such chipper personalities against them. My one complaint is that they rarely have guests. It would be nice to get some interviews in now and then.

    Great podcast
I can't wait for my phone to alert me to new episodes. It's my crack!
