SuperwontonGreat show! Thanks so much for making this show, I sail in the Sf bay and the local episodes are fun and informative, and I like your technical ones too! One nitpick is that the volume on your show seems to be consistently below the volume of the other shows I listen to, and also is inconsistent, such that the lowest volume shows can actually be hard to listen to in anything but a quiet environment. Other than that, it’s perfect!

high altitude veggie loverEvery episode has a take awayWhile many of us don’t aspire to circumnavigate, hearing others’ stories about dealing with adversities and marine-based adventures is inspiring (and educational). So many tidbits I hope I never have to use (e.g., if you have to abandon ship, grab your shoes) and so many helpful piece of advice. Great listen!

Cyril NoirSo many miles, ideas and amazing sailors covered!I have learned so much from this podcast. Ben has interviewed so many amazing and interesting guests, every episode a keeper. If you’re interested in Bay Area Sailing, this podcast is for you. Thanks Andy and team for your excellent and insightful episodes.

Conference GoerThoughtfull and well plannedBen has done great job creating an engaging podcast. Topics and guests are wide ranging and his interviews are well planned to create a good flow. His question lines, delivery, and exchange with the guests make you feel like you’re in the conversation and not simply listening to an interview. Highly recommend!
-
MatthewTheFirstGreat content and talented interviewerThis podcast is really a pleasure to listen to in large part because the host has the talent and style to keep an interview flowing with great information and a story in every episode.

s/v Dura MaterInterview w Joe BalderramaPerfect questions, insightful and articulate responses, stories (terrifying stories!) and a real respectful sense of the place in sailing history held by the Singlehanded Sailing Society. Thank you to both of you. Jackie Philpott

kvittsandBrilliantThe only trouble with this show is that when I listen to it, I start hearing the sirens calling me to the ocean, and I’m liable to run out and jump on the nearest boat. Carry on, Mr. Shaw.

tommmy111Great stories!I live in the Bay Area and started sailing here after living in Florida all my life. It is awesome to here everyone’s stories about the bay and to learn more about the Bay Area sailing spots. Love the approach Ben takes with his guests.
-
BBSebensGreat listening, educational and inspirationalI enjoy listening to Out The Gate even though I’m not from the Bay Area. Great guests, great stories.

BillyBobV in Nor-CalNice podcast about more than just SF BayThis podcast has been part of my inspiration as I’m starting “my sailing career”. I’m looking forward to getting into the Bay once I’ve figured things out on the lakes

GpullenGreat Questions and Awesome guests!!Thank you Ben for coming to California and starting this journey. I have spent the last two weeks listening to your podcasts from your first to the last. I love what you’re doing. Your questions are always on point and help those of us who so badly want to get on the water but feel landlocked. You have shown me that there are many ways in which to get on the bay without paying large sums of money. Keep up the good work and hope to see you out on the bay.

Rah138Love the Podcast, but bad experience with Sun Powered YachtsHi, It’s been a couple months since I’ve listened to your podcast but have enjoyed it, especially the Randal Reeves and Tony Gooch episodes. I can’t remember if I learned about Sun Powered Yachts from you or someone else, but since they are being promoted by your podcast I wanted to warn your listeners about them and relate my experience. I didn’t order solar panels from them (wrong size) but did order everything else I needed for my set-up. It was more expensive than the vast majority of other companies offering the same items, but Lyall gave me good advice and I was happy to pay more because if that. However one of the three orders never arrived. The USPS tracking info said that it was delivered but the box must have been too big for my mailbox and I assume it was left outside. Whatever the case, I never received it. As a Bay Area resident that does online shopping frequently, items have gone missing before. However, never has a company refused to replace the items or refund the money. I thought I was doing a fellow sailor some good by supporting his operation. Sadly, the experience has left me feeling that larger and legit companies are the ones I should order from. I ended up buying cables from Amazon for half the price. If you live in an urban area with the potential of someone swiping items from your porch, think twice about ordering from Sun Powered Yachts.

dan marina bayGreat pod castAs someone who sails I really enjoyed it

Bird addict 3620These stories make me long to sailAs a new sailor - and as a woman sailor I’m looking for stories of sailors in the Bay and especially stories of women out on the water. Out the Gate tells these stories of modern sailors the people, the boats, the places, in a way that you can be a little salty, a lot salty, or not salty at all and enjoy. I love that you are featuring women on the water and can’t thank you enough for sharing their stories.

BOD GriffDisappointing..move onHost rambles on about himself and his friends constantly. Squat about sailing.
-
NancyRCOne of my favoritesIn a short time this has become one of my favorite podcasts. Ben has a great rapport with his guests and gets some very interesting dialogues going. As an expat from the Bay Area now living abroad I enjoy hearing the interviews with local SF sailing personalities. Especially enjoyed the one with Commodore Tompkins who I remembered from years past. Keep up the great work Ben.
-
AbbiehenryNot just a podcast, it’s audio journalismBen is well prepared for each interview and coupled with his approachable personality, he is easily able to ask deeply personal questions and get honest answers from his guests. The audio quality is excellent for in-person interviews and he works some serious magic for Skype audio to get that sounding better than any other podcaster out there. Like many other podcasts, the musical interludes seem to be mixed at a higher volume than the dialogue, so be prepared to turn down the volume at the end of the conversation. I look forward to each episode. Keep up the high quality work!

Capt. SidEnjoyable & InformativeYou do an excellent job of drawing out your guests’ opinions and philosophies without unduly inserting yourself into the conversation.
-

Ian Powell FilmsGreat so farGreat podcast so far. Can’t wait to see where it goes. Love hearing about the local SF sailing community as well as adventures around the world.
-
JBWoodsmanCaptivating interviews!I’m not a sailor and don’t have any sailing experience, But I thoroughly enjoy this podcast! Then doesn’t amazing job of interviewing interesting people in an intimate way. This podcast is as much about sailing as it is about the human experience.
-
John of SFWonderfulThoroughly enjoyed the first episode and can’t wait for the next installment.
-
RKJ06AwesomeI know NOTHING about sailing, and I still love this podcast. It’s like entering a new world, with new language and new physics. And Ben asks the best questions. Can’t wait for more episodes
