Jen in suburbiaCommon sense backed up by researchAs a researcher and avid consumer of social media it’s refreshing to hear experts challenge the medical myths floating around. Love that they review actual studies people are always citing…and explain the merits or lack of…Totally worth the listen!
-
m.palmerGreat educational podcastThe bad reviews here are not from people in medicine or academia. Yes, everyone has explicit and implicit bias but these researchers are simply discussing different research articles. They will tell you their experiences and anecdotal opinions but the science remains unbiased. I appreciate the work their are doing to company misinformation and enhance media literacy.

Cold Blooded Lord (she/her)Uhhh huh?Why would “big pharma” pay two internet randos (no offense) to spread lies? If they were doing that they would focus more on much bigger people to spread lies It would be more effective
-
changagarciaThank you!I work at a major hospital and every day is a battle against misinformation. I need every colleague and patient to listen to Unbiased Science.
-
muurrrrrrrREAL SCIENCEDon’t listen to the poor reviews, those are pseudo intellectual haters! Trolls are gonna troll. Any REAL scientist would agree with this podcast is in fact UNBIASED. Science is measurable; if you understand that, then you know this is legit. They do a great job providing the most up to date SCIENCE BACKED data in a genuine and fun way. I do miss Dr. Andrea Love, she is like a human encyclopedia.
-
juttyrdhNot that unbiased after allAs a scientist myself, they are not actually unbiased. They just peddle whatever narrative the US pharma companies and health agencies put out. Science is about discovery and being open to different opinions and I’ve seen them state many times on this podcast and their Instagram that the way other parts of the worlds and culture approach health is outright wrong because it’s not considered safe by the US agencies.
-
CallMeByMyName79obviously so biasedThe title in itself is funny. These two are clearly far from unbiased and they proudly share their Pharma-funded biases across their episodes and social media. Lots of boring and predictable takes. Not interesting.
-
CJPhDivaCLEAR bias!Though I appreciate the idea behind this podcast, as a fellow member of the research community, I have to call these women out for the biases they hold. The message seems clear: this podcast favors synthetic/pharmaceutical products, downplays the risks of pesticides and other toxins that have been linked to such issues as cancer and neurodevelopmental disorders, and also presents its information as saviorism towards the oppressed, as if all oppressed persons want their advice. If actually unbiased; this podcast would also acknowledge the various studies on glyphosate increasing cancer likelihood - ESPECIALLY childhood cancers, would not turn a blind eye to iatrogenic harm or Pharma’s questionable legal history (you’re not fooling some of us by deflecting to supplement sales and avoiding the elephant in the room) and would give fair credit to research-based naturopathic medicine for both mental and physical health. There is room for integration of natural and western medicines in this world, but not if “science influencers” such as the women on this podcast continue to resist the power of the former! In the end, this podcast feels like an attempt to keep the average leftist upper middle class white person in a comfortable echo chamber where their worldview is never challenged, and they can maintain their self-image as morally and intellectually superior. As stated by other reviewers, your biases are very clear to some of your peers despite your inability to own them.

ixcleightFluorideI don’t get it I haven’t had fluoride in my drinking water ever. At 57 years old the only teeth that has been removed was my 4 wisdom teeth. Never a root canal or a crown. So fluoride isn’t needed in one’s drinking water. Stayed away from processed food as much as possible. The studies that fluoride manufacturers paid for we all know how that study goes. Just like the food pyramid what was made with the big food processing companies. Hence processed food is at the top. How stupid do you think free thinkers that ask questions like who backed that study.

kennnnnnnnethWearing on meI have listened to most of the episodes. Lately I have been feeling like the overall vibe of the show is like one of those “in this house we ….” signs that smug folk put in their front yards. I’m all for science literacy and the topics are indeed interesting. Overall I think the execution is lacking and the hosts aren’t really able to provide interesting narratives or effective interviews at the same level that other prolific science podcasters can. As a layperson who is fairly literate about health and very curious about science, I feel like this one just doesn’t quite pass muster.

kabess77Find myself saying ‘really??’I have been listening to hear the views of those who disagree with alternative medicine. While I can take in how they get their view point based on research, I cannot agree with the conclusions most of the time. Glyphosate is not safe, artificial sweeteners do have a negative impact (personal experience), acupuncture is beneficial (again personal experience), birth control has side effects (yep, gained weight and depression myself on all brands), gluten sensitivity is real (the pain and blood with a bowel movement was real until I got rid of gluten-not celiac), leaky gut healing….yep real thing, bringing back some items after taking time to heal it currently, and I could keep going with personal experience. Finding my ND has changed my life for the better. Listening to these supposedly unbiased talks only leaves me to be skeptical when I go for conventional medicine. Maybe they should bring someone one who opposes their views and has a honest debate? That would be unbiased over all, because you could hear all points.

endofsufferingGood science, annoying sound effectsI’m getting a bit fed up with all the audio effects added to the podcast. Weird pings at random times. It might just be my neurodivergent brain but I saw at least one other comment about this.
-
Doodles forever!Doodles forever!Great content! I look forward to each episode

JSTravelsSuch an informative podcast! But PLEASE ditch the sound effectsI find this podcast to be so interesting! When the recent co-host left the show, I wasn’t sure how the podcast would continue, but I found it to be even better (so, great job Dr. Steier!). She brings on so many informative guests and the way she unpacks topics always leaves me learning something new. As I mentioned in the title, please stop all the odd sound effects. I am currently listening to the concussions episode, and when I realized I wasn’t even listening to what was being said, but rather was trying to figure out if I was listening to applause, running water, or a garbage truck outside the podcast studio, I just had to pause the episode and leave a review to plead for this to stop :) But five stars all the way on the podcast, hosts, and content! Love it!

Critique or CriticalRelevant & ImportantAwesome podcast! Very knowledgeable and in words anyone can understand! Relevant and important topics. I appreciate the candor. As a healthcare worker, I find it courageous and critical to shed light on some of these more controversial issues others shy away from. Thank you!

Family Doc.A Physician’s View of Unbiased ScienceI am a family practitioner in the Chicago area, one of my patients recommended I listen to the podcast Unbiased Science. I listened to their show on concussions, and was extremely impressed. The two podcasters were very well informed and discussed the issue of brain injury in a way that was understandable to the lay public without being too technical. I plan to subscribe to this podcast and recommend it to my patients. Looking forward to their program on vaccines.
-
Jacs IzzySmart, engaging, and refreshingly humanThe Unbiased SciPod delivers an enlightening blend of scientific rigor, sharp wit and approachable insights. Dr. Scheinman and Dr. Steier masterfully distill complex topics into digestible themes, making even the most intricate brain science accessible to all audiences.

Cs100Sound effectsThe sound effects distract from the podcast.
-
MsNellaWaferGood content, weird sound effects and affectationsI like the science content but what was up with the weird sound effects in the “Heads Will Roll” episode? It was so distracting. I thought some other program was creating the sounds. I closed every app and eventually paused the podcast to confirm it was coming from the podcast itself. I also get so tired of the weird affectations of the main host—always overpronouncing “chicago” as a joke in multiple episodes, always being so loud and sometimes talking over others, the insecurity about being a third wheel, and so on. Just talk at a normal volume and say “Chicago” normally or if that’s impossible, stop inviting people from Chicago.
-
Sylvie98760Makes science accessible for all!Such an important public service to promote scientific literacy and accessibility! Thank you so much!

Silie_Not unbiasedJust finished listening to my first episode “snake for oil” of this show. I wasn’t too sure what this was about but it’s definitely not unbiased. While I agree with some of the points about current “wellness” trends are just to capitalize on products and is doing what big pharma is doing, I don’t agree that wellness trends are the same as functional medicine. Nothing was critiqued about our current healthcare system in the USA. I think a lot of people seek alternative medicine AFTER they’ve not gotten results from conventional medicine. I would have loved to see points and critiques of both that way it would be unbiased.
-
skinfishThe bias: you’re a big dummy if you didn’t already know thisI agree with basically everything they go over, BUT- when I reached an episode where they were talking about myths etc and they spoke about aspartame…. It’s long been known it doesn’t cause cancer, the problem is how it affects your gut microbiome. There’s a lot of studies, that isn’t controversial.. Who’s the dummy now! haha In all seriousness, the content is good but her attitude is repellant. I wish I could send some of this content to people in my life who have fallen for misinformation, but I can’t because she’s so dismissive and eye-roll and straight up mean about it. Still looking for competent science communicators in the nutrition/medical space (key word: communicator!!)
-
LitttlewingladyInteresting content but annoying to listen toI love the idea of this podcast but the combination of poor audio and the host constantly talking over the guests makes it very difficult to listen to
-
Nick12336283Nice lady but I’m a bit disappointedI hear a lot of people using sound bites like “vaccines are safe and effective” and “trust the science” and “conspiracy theories” so when I ran across this episode about vaccines I hoped she would go into the science of why vaccines are safe. It was all the same tropes, though, with discussion of “why don’t people trust vaccines” but no actual pulling out of scientific research studies. The “other side” has piles and piles of research studies they cite in depth. Why of the mainstream narrative about this topic is true don’t the scientists ever actually pull out the science? (Actually they did cite one study…. From the 1980s or something… that was debunked. But no actual favorable science). The search continues.

latinxhermioneReally wanted to like itLove the idea, hate the execution. Dr Jessica is well meaning but she rambles a lot and doesn’t let her interviewees talk about THEIR expertise. If you bring someone on the show, let them do the talking. Her questions are redundant and not very open ended. She’ll ask questions that are a min long. You gotta let your interviewees speak.
-
msward.reedBrilliant podcast — a must listen every weekOne of my favorite podcasts! Its gotten better and better with each season. Love the interviews and the wide range of topics and guests. Grateful for a podcast with such a balanced approach that’s evidence based and supported by such thorough research.

Christian SegallLove this galThis podcast has saved me from so much garbage

Aleop9016Culturally Incompetent, Biased, EurocentricI’m really disappointed in the acupuncture episode. The podcasters make several errors in their description of TCM. There is a ton of solid evidence that supports the efficacy and safety of acupuncture - how did they miss all of it? Insurance takes absolutely forever to verify that something is legit before they cover it, and most major insurance companies cover acupuncture. Why are these podcasters not even as up to date as our insurance companies? And why not invite a licensed acupuncturist onto the show to explain TCM instead of butchering it themselves? I don’t know why they kept repeating the part about seeing a licensed acupuncturist. Like, obviously?! No one is going to see an unlicensed primary care physician, so why would anyone see an unlicensed acupuncturist? It sounds like they automatically don’t trust anyone who practices acupuncture, which sounds like….hm, a bias? A racial or cultural bias? Don’t be freaked out people. To become a licensed acupuncturist, you have to have at least a master’s in TCM, though many have a Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) degree. These programs are extensive - often the master’s degree takes 5 years, and they involve many clinical hours. There is an acupuncture board that oversees everything. There is a code of ethics. You can loose your license if you screw up or do something unethical. These people clearly have no respect for the traditional medical system of China. This is sadly an example of elitist views that put western medicine above everything else. Not everything is about pharmaceuticals, but that is all that this podcast cares about.

Aunt Mrs ShellySuch a great resourceThis Podcast and all their social media resources are invaluable resources for well researched, unbiased, and relevant scientific and medical information. In a world with so much poor quality data and misinformation it’s such a breath of fresh air!!
-
Dave Apple UserGood intent. Not a good interviewer.I really want to like this podcast because I do like the intent. I’m mid way through my second episode and I find it difficult to listen. Instead of skillfully interviewing the expert guest, the host talks and talks. Often the host states her hypothesis about an issue, at length, and then asks the expert if they agree. At times she realizes that she has spoken too long and stops awkwardly. Please, work on your interviewing skills. You’ll have plenty of room to discuss with the guest and even state your theories.

CeceD.CDThis podcast is really informative ! Love the last episode with Mo as well as the episode about reproductive health. As a senior woman, I feel like we are being seen! Thank you Unbiased Science!!
-
BjustB44Love love loveLoving the new tone of the pod. I find it really easy and enjoyable to listen to in the car. Very informative and interesting. Amazing and relevant content!
-
M1niMacExcellentThis podcast is amazing, I share with all my friends and health care professional colleagues. The tone recently is especially engaging generating scientific discussion from a judgement-free, enjoyable perspective. I always look forward to new episodes!
-
take care of yourselfKudos, Unbiased Docs!!I love your content because you make it accessible and everything you share and say is 100 percent science backed. In a world gone mad for bad alternatives to what to do right, I feel grateful that I can count on you both for accurate and honest and reliable information that helps me to live my best life. Bravo!!!!
-
InsightstodayInteresting, and unfortunately one sided…I was thrilled to find something to debunk some of the fear mongering myths. However, unbiased means presenting both sides of the issue with data to support or reject claims. This pod unfortunately doesn’t do that. It’s one sided. And, still an interesting perspective. The docs presenting are very passionate, I’ll give them that!

BeNiceScottB-Listers of the Huberman LabLadies and gentlemen, I present to you the experts who never got booked for the Huberman Lab podcast… Nonetheless, they are experts.
-
aye lordFantastic episodeLoved the menopause breakdown.. and Dr Jen was the perfect person for this episode.
-
Overtime ReviewerShame this podcast has “science” in the name. This podcast cites outdated research. The hosts use an air of authority to present only one side of science as the “right” and only side even when the scientific findings themselves are still under development and inconclusive. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks they are getting “unbiased” “science” from this podcast. I feel even sorrier for anyone who is going to get gaslit by their nurses and loved ones because of biased misinformation a listener heard on this pod. I would hope doctors would have the critical thinking skills to see what they are getting on this podcast, but likely some of them too.
-
KatieVanBooksRefreshing and InformativeI really enjoy listening to this podcast every week. The hosts are credible and passionate about sharing evidence-based information, and their episodes are focused, yet full of personality. I’ve learned so much from Drs. Love and Steier, and I thank them for all of their efforts to bring this information to the public.
-
Benevolent SociopathGreat informationI have yet to listen to the full catalog. But from what I’ve heard : The focus on evidence base reality is great to see. In a world full of made up credentials, unregulated nonsense, and pseudoscience these two help combat misinformation. My only critique as with most academics I’ve followed, they focus on quality content to the detriment of crisp, clear, presentation. ( they could definitely use an audio quality tuneup.) I’ve seen others take issue with the name “unbiased” and while it is true that we all bring with us to the table our own bias. I am not so much a pedant. professionals are aware of their bias and open to new information provided it is evidence based.
-
Ljohnson05Look elsewhere for unbiased.Listened to a few shows, that’s all it took to see that this show is not unbiased. Very unfortunate because people really want the unbiased aspect.
-
AFS PDXGo-to podcastI learn something every time I tune in and this is the first podcast o look for when I open the app! Thank you for the time and effort to share your knowledge!
-
byrnsideFantastic content, terrible production values. This podcast is so close to being great, but I just can’t listen due to poor production quality. Echoey, clipping audio abound and the editing is haphazard. Looking forward to the evolution of this content as the values improve.

KimmerskMedical and science communication is hard! This duo does a great job communicating complicated topics in understandable and engaging ways. Any scientist will tell you that we never get it 100% right for 100% of the audience, but in these contentious times we need more science literacy so we can continue to have conversations that matter. Keep up the good work!
-
jasminejanehA Fun Genius Pod, Expand Your MindThis is so needed right now and honestly long ago. Facts based information and explanation. Science is a process with results and details evolving, not always what some would make it. They make it fun without sympathizing with bull****. Love hearing all the latest on the medical end. Keep it up, ladies. 🤓
-
Entrunnerengaging, understandable explanations and discussions of key topics. Thank you!!engaging, understandable explanations and discussions of key topics. Thank you!!
-
parentoflittlesFantastic science communicators! So incredibly grateful you fabulous duo exist! I work in market research and consistently need to “remind” (and battle) colleagues on misusing the data to fit their story. It’s nothing compared to the work you’re doing for society, but I feel ya! Thanks for being fantastic science communicators!
-
yates2018Fantastic.This show is fantastic and the epitome of evidence based. Special thanks for the Lyme disease episodes - I’m an RD and have been swarmed with questions so those episodes were awesome. I guarantee people who are rating this show low/leaving bad reviews are your classic “I only partake in homeopathic medicine, all conventional medicine is corrupt” type. This podcast clearly isn’t for them if they want to continue living in a fantasy world. Well done ladies, keep it up!
-
ronaeleiseleanorbackwardsdown with pseudoscience!Very interesting and informative. The amount of one stars given by the believers in pseudoscience is tragic lol
-
jillie091738A must listen! As an RDN, I love how educational this show is about all forms of science — nutritional, wellness, and alternative health! Dr. Andrea and Dr. Jess brings such great topics to the table that are not only accurate, but relevant to what is happening in our world today. I promise you will learn something new you did not know before!
