MelfromVTAt peace again…Since I was barely old enough to remember, I have had a sincere desire to know and serve my Saviour. I have lived in intimacy with Him, and while I have had my fair number of trails, they have only grown my faith as I saw His loving hand working all things for my good. I was never encouraged to develop any strong ties to a specific theology—what mattered was Christ, and Him crucified, repentance of sin and growing in the likeness of Jesus. During the Covid era, the church I grew up in shut down for a long period of time, and since my husband and I were already deeply struggling with the more progressive new pastor there, we decided to move on. We were invited by friends to a church that unbeknownst to us, is rather strongly Calvinist, and this led me into a crisis of faith. I couldn’t understand why the teaching was so vastly different. Prayer suddenly seemed ineffective and unnecessary. I felt hopelessness and despair. It has been so dark. But then, by the grace of God, I found this podcast and it has cleared up so much for me! I pleaded God would open my eyes to Calvinism if it truly was His truth, or vice versa, and it seems He led me here! Thank you, Dr. Flowers! This podcast has helped bring me back to a place of peace.

debhubSo encouraging and confirmingIt’s taken me about seven years to come out of my 40+ years of Calvinism sitting under one of the most prominent Calvinistic pastors/preachers alive today, and to see the true love and provision of God for ALL his creatures. And Leighton’s awesome program has been not only a major confirmation that I’m on the right biblical track but has encouraged me to hang in there and to study the Bible more to make sure I can support my provisionalism from scripture. My husband and I are still in the teensy tiny minority of our circle of Christians, But every time I listen to one of Leighton‘s programs, I am encouraged and reaffirmed in the truth. Please keep it up, brother and don’t stop preaching the truth because we need you! 👍✝️

bmwilburn7Poor argumentsI think it is poor to bash Calvinism when all of the points actually are backed by scripture. God doesn’t hate us just to hate us. He hates sin, and unless he changes our heart, we are incapable of seeing His goodness. I think you should take another look at Romans 9. Sad to hear this episode and people responding positively.
-
zilsnavegood stuff!I appreciate this podcast for the training in the word and listening helps me to deal with some of my critical angry feelings I get toward Calvinists L O L thank you

Jeff podEpisode batchingIt’s a fine podcast for what it is. I’m really here to say I listened to 1 episode of the 3 you released today because they just overwhelm my listening for most of a day and I’ve got other podcasts to catch up on. If these had been released at larger intervals I think I’d have fit them into my listening. Instead I deleted the other 2 and that helped me catch up.
-
SharkNateO_SadThis is synergism, plain and simple. Dr. Flowers continuously fights against the doctrine of God’s decree and his sovereignty in salvation, and it is sad to watch. Just let go, Dr. Flowers. Stop fighting the truth.

AverageapologistI’m still a CalvinistI love Leighton. Disagree with him, but I think he’s great. I’d encourage all my other reformed brothers to listen to him, and be challenged. I’m debating on getting a tattoo of Leighton Flowers and James White arm wrestling while shaking hands under the table. I think it would be rad. (Probably would regret it later, but I think it would be cool)

IL Dent manGreat podcast! Our 16 and 21 year old kids started hanging out with a group of friends at a local church that turned out to be Calvinist so we had to get more familiar with it to teach them how it was NOT what we believe. Also after paying more attention to churches in the area we are seeing how Calvinism is popping up in more churches near us. This podcast has been super helpful for us. Thanks and keep it up!

ChrsmcgwnNecessary PodcastAs someone who was a moderate Calvinist for a decade, I needed this content to help me understand I wasn’t crazy to be struggling with the tenants of reformed theology. Terrific and necessary content in today’s spiritual landscape. P. S. My 7yr old son also loves it.

Matt the Emoji manBeware - modernistFirst, I agree with Flowers on just about everything he says regarding Calvinism, but after listening to him for 2 years I’ve been turned off by his subtle liberalism. He’s not a fundamental Bible believer and the listener that cares should be cautioned. He does not stick with the King James Bible and once you reject a standard you can justify anything. His wife is not a “keeper at home” and he brings up her career often, as if it’s something positive. He recently implied that a woman can hold the title of “Pastor” and didn’t think it that big of a deal. I know he teaches at a liberal school but for some reason thought he was set apart from it, and apparently he’s not.

BartFam13THANK YOU!Thank God for determining people to be Calvinists so I can use my free will and reject Calvinism. (Just a joke y’all) Seriously, thank you for easily showing the fatal flaws of Calvinism and the cult like approach they use to promote this faulty theology. Dr. Flowers is a BLESSING!

JohnnyiamYou're making a huge difference! Thanks to your podcast, I've been able to articulate my thoughts better on soteriology! I've started listening about a year and a half ago. Since then, I've witnessed multiple family and friends open their eyes to God's love and provision for all. Thank you for your efforts to share truth in a kind and humble manner. Please keep sharing truth!

FL ha ghhjTake another lookAndy Stanley is now a full blown heretic. You need to listen to some of his latest comments and if anyone can’t say so then maybe they are as well! Otherwise I like the podcast.

Camels5Heaven sent!I was a Calvinist for 7 years and recently rejected it. I thank God for Dr Flowers and his ministry. I am so entirely grateful that this information and material exists. It seems like every Christian source I like has a calvinist worldview, so thank you for being a countering voice. I am now in the process of binging this podcast!

AmorValenteThis podcast borough me the light I needed to see...That's the first time I've ever wrote a review on this platform. I am doing so, because this podcast has borough me out of a soft calvinist view, because I was unable to give God the glory that was due, as I realized though this podcast that my Hermeneutics is flawed. I could not see God as a good being/person because how hard I held onto fatalism and determinism. Back in seminary I have been considered the hardest student in class, because I tend not to agree with most things I hear from scholars due to my commonsensical views of everything. Dr. Flowers has given me, through this podcast, a package of information to brainstorm upon (in the word), and for the first time I was able to systematically free myself from bad soteriology and see God just, loving and fair and truly sovereign. Thank you.

Flee the wrath to comeSuperbAs a young man who was restless and almost reformed because of the seeker sensitive movement and the prosperity gospel I went too far the other way and almost fell into calvinism but then by God’s grace I found this channel and was shown FROM SCRIPTURE why Calvinism is false. And I am so thankful for it. Thank you so much Leighton for your work, it is making a huge difference and I am thankful to God for this podcast and for Leighton. He is genuine and has a heart like the Father. Thank you brother and God bless!

MalesoobviouslyimwrongGreat showDr. Flowers has put into words how I have felt about the doctrine of election. I truly believe that anyone who criticizes this show has not actually listened to what Dr. Flowers said and spelled out through scripture.
-
Mike_RoyalEncouraging & ChallengingI left my former staff position in part due to the church’s leading to bring on staff a senior pastor who believed and taught TULIP. That departure allowed God to place me in my first senior pastorate roll. Your videos have helped to challenge and steady my study and understanding of God’s Word.

The Church SplitSweet Calvinist TearsEvery time you fire up an episode an Angel gets its wings and a Calvinist loses a pedal. Checkout The Church Split too. We’re pretty cool 😉

gjvfezgllgrsvjewvkovbuNew pastorWhere can I find good biblical teachings from a non Calvinistic Stan? I have listened to your podcast and need some recommendations.
-
Way of GodVery scholarlyI really appreciate this insightful podcast. In a day of very loose Biblical interpretation so many churches have built their theology on the ideas of well received pastors and theologians instead of allowing Gods word to speak for itself. Dr. Leighton Flowers seeks to understand the Bible according to God’s perspective. He uses logic in his approach to carefully expound the meaning of God’s word. For those who seek to truly understand the doctrine and application of Salvation, Soteriology 101 is for you.
-
AriviciosoGreat podcast.I’ve learned a lot from this great podcast. Dr. Flowers teachings are clear and he is a humble man.
-
CaptainEliottVery neededDr. Flowers has helped me hear another perspective of how the mystery of salvation works through scripture. Not sure i agree with everything but it is very needed to listen to all perspectives. I listen to him, others who disagree and i end up reading my Bible more and asking God to help me understand Him better. So its been a blessing. I just wish he focused on other things as well.
-
Mr. Highclass probleVery HelpfulI really enjoy this podcast and have learned a lot about Soteriology. As a charismatic, we don’t hear many, if any teachings on soteriology. It has helped me to define what I believe and to think more careful about the scriptures. I am charismatic provisionist. Keep up the good work.

BourbonSangriaExceptional dialogThoughtful, measured, non confrontational yet firm. Biblical, Giving God the supreme position He deserves. I like it!!!!

titanium147Dr Flowers is cool, but!!Professor Flowers is very intelligent, very well spoken,I’m sure he is a very nice man.My problem is not that he takes a different perspective than I do.My problem is that he literally does nothing else. He is a 1 string banjo over a non essential issue & I see him doing nothing else to defend the orthodox Protestantism .No defending the Trinity, salvation by grace through faith, not the Virgin birth, resurrection…nothing else. Broaden your horizons dr flowers, we’ll have plenty of time to argue this issue after the Marxists throw us in prison together.

OakHillGirlLife ChangingI grew up in a reformed Presbyterian home. After experiencing the loss of 7 babies, and some going through a time of very dark depression and anxiety (although never doubt...I’ve never doubted God’s goodness), I decided to explore this controversial topic more. After listening to nearly all of Leighton’s podcasts, some multiple times, and reading his books, I’m convinced more than ever that the Calvinistic soteriology taught in so many conservative churches now is not grounded in Biblical truth. I used to find comfort in the fact that I believed all the horrific things that had happened to me were determined by God before the beginning of time, meticulously, for his own secret glory. But after 2 years of study and learning, I have a different understanding. One that upholds God as more glorious and good, and one that holds me responsible fully for my sin. Leighton’s gracious tone and his ability to debate topics with such a good nature and in such humility has me coming back for each new episode. He also plays the theologians he contends with for themselves, so I don’t feel he makes the mistake of misrepresentation. I highly recommend this podcast.
-
Ken HubbertI have found this very usefulVery thought-provoking. Great holy spirit filled attitude and I think God is really using this man and this podcast.
-
Jessica JokelaToneComing out of 10+ years of Calvinistic thought/framework, I appreciate the respectful, non-contemptuous tone — it’s what got to me to listen in the first place, since sarcasm and name-calling was partly what was keeping me back from listening to another perspective. Thanks, brother Leighton, for being brotherly and courteous.

Allijoy2Loosing salvation?Would you do a lesson salvation and if you can loose your salvation or not?

Chrono RangerSharpeningDr. Flowers does a good job articulating his perspectives, interpretations, and ideas. Being a Calvinist, I don’t agree with his provisionalism at all; but I do heartily enjoy his questions, even though his snarkiness rubs me the wrong way at times. Thank you for desiring to know Christ and His Word rightly Dr. Flowers. Thank you for sharpening me.
-
mdh62A Simple Reading Of the TextThis podcast does a great job breaking down those verses that Calvinist use to support their doctrine. Once you see the actual context of those passages it’s simple to see the writers DID NOT have “Calvinism” in view.
-
mactheterribleBalanced and Gracious, Godly CritiqueUnlike some more well known apologists, Dr. Flowers is balanced in representing his opponents’ view. He is gracious in how he confronts doctrine he considers false. Most importantly, he models Paul’s instructions in 2 Timothy 4:2 to rebuke in patience and careful instruction. Whether you agree with him or not, his methods honor God and should be emulated more widely.
-
nojust1meRefreshingSuch a great tool to keep in your theological/apologetic podcast rotation. He is fair, respectful, and biblical!
-
Topherz82Thanks for the great teachingCalvinism is so appealing for people who just want to give God all of the glory, but it does just the opposite. Thanks for helping me realize that I on the wrong path. Most of the pastors and philosophers I respect are Calvinist, but that doesn’t mean we have to agree on every point. Think for yourselves people.
-
Keaggy145 stars Leighton!I found this podcast through crossexamined.org and so glad I did. I grew up in a “Tulip” church and always was uneasy about it and thought that a lot of scripture contradicted the Calvinist position. Leighton has helped me with biblical references to a sound Provisionist grounding to state a reasoned case. I am more equipped and informed, not just on his views, but Calvinism among other soteriological viewpoints. He’s fair and even handed. Keep up the great work!

Sergeant WombleBiblically Accurate; Well Studied; Reverent and RespectfulDr Flowers is a joy to listen to. His attitude in dealing with those who disagree with him is a model for other Christians to follow. He’s not divisive or argumentative. He doesn’t mock anyone or disrespect disagreeing brothers in Christ. Also, his knowledge of the Laws of Logic and formal critical thinking are comparable to the best of Christian philosophers. When I listen to Dr Flowers I’m not just listening to theology or apologetics. I’m learning more about the real genuine love of God for all people. As an Airborne Infantry veteran who later re-classed to the Chaplains Corp I give you my highest gratitude Dr Flowers. Thanks!

Studier of ScriptureFrom Calvinist-Lite to PelagianismListen for yourself. Listen to this, the Dividing Line, and the debate between White and Flowers. Flower’s is a one string banjo, he’s out to destroy Calvinism and salvation by Grace Alone. I don’t think he understands Calvinism by how he characterizes it. You CANNOT have a good understanding of Calvinism by listening to flowers, you CANNOT. Flowers is a case study in imbalance. I wish Flowers would just debate White again instead of ranting on his show and him and White throwing responses back and worth and Flowers screeching RED HERRING RED HERRING AD HOM AD HOM. My exhortation to any one listening: Listen to all opinions and counter opinions. Don’t judge a theology by those who don’t understand it and can’t characterize it well. I really hope Flowers the best and hope he returns to a Protestant Christian view of the necessity of grace and the deadness of men in sin. Flee from man glorifying theology.
-
DPCRNExcellent balance of presenting his views but being fair to opposing viewsDr. Flowers definitely has a well researched and formalized opinion on Soteriology. But he also gives a fair summary of opposing views by letting them speak for themselves. He has a loving and gracious approach toward toward his detractors and those with opposing views. I don’t agree with all his views, but he makes me think.

Danny VickJarrett D. VickAs an untrained layman, interested in all aspects of the Gospel, and finding the true meaning of these type scriptures, I love your programs! Beyond my normal Bible studies, I have since I retired, listened to many different personalities and beliefs... mainly on YouTube! Dr. Flowers your Soteriology101 is my favorite. Like you Sir, I have some Calvinist that I listen to as well! I can’t make myself believe the deterministic theology, in fact having read the Bible cover to cover many times, it doesn’t naturally flow! Your work, Dr. Flowers and the interactions with your interesting guest have grounded me deeper in this free will thinking you embrace! I have read one of your guests book, Dr. Ken Wilson’s condensed book about Augustinian teachings, and it has intrigued me with gnostic, Manichaeism, and other influences on the Calvinist movement. Thanks for your dedication to exposing this fallacy in the doctrine embraced by some of our Brothers in Christ!

Thomas_AlbanyThe Real Dr. FlowersGot here from James White. Was dismayed at how badly White misrepresents Flowers’ position on Calvinism and impressed by Flowers’ gentle but forceful arguments. Agree or disagree with him, but if you want to know Flowers’ position, get it from Flowers and not from someone who seems bent on misrepresenting him.
-
jwlewis325Been Refuted So Many TimesFlowers has been refuted so many times it’s not even funny. I would recommend everyone listen to his debate with James White and see who is being consistent, exegeting Scripture, and addressing the real arguments. Hint - it’s not Flowers.

RodgerDodgersEnjoyable and intelligentI didn’t realize that there were many Christians who believed the Calvinist interpretation of Scriptures. However I recently started attending a Baptist church after being invited by a friend. We were invited to dinner by one of the pastors, a great guy and still a friend even though he has since moved away, and I was informed of this way of thinking. It disturbed me since I’ve been following Jesus for years and hadn’t really considered that God didn’t love most people. That conversation made me delve into what God says and what his character displays throughout scripture. You know what I discovered? There’s a reason why we believe Father is good and loving. It’s because he has provided everyone a way through his son. I think Dr. Flowers does a good job of honoring the Holy Word and presenting the gospel in the way I believe it should be presented, with love and respect. I’m still at the Baptist church aforementioned. It’s very difficult as I’ve never been around so many people who uphold academia as next to godliness and who seem passionate about theology but not Jesus. However, I am seeing Father God give me love and appreciation for brothers and sisters who think very differently than me.

M. ServetusGlad I found this podcastDr. Flowers is a gracious host and he goes to great effort to present logical, biblical interpretation of the scripture. He does all this with a spirit of humility and without insulting anyone. Even if you disagree, I urge you listen with the same patience and graciousness Dr. Flowers extends to those he responds to. If you need help understanding calvinism, this is the best place to start. I want so badly to say mean things about cavinist, but I 'm going to resist the urge and ask you to judge Dr. Flowers based on the fruit he bears. 5 STARS!
